Having a healthy and balanced diet is incredibly important in this day and age. We have to be very careful what we eat and how our bodies are affected by what we put in them. Many people like to undertake fad diets in order to improve their health and fitness, but it’s clear that a balanced and healthy diet is the best way to go. That means having just the right amount of stuff like carbs, and protein.
Now, protein is the big one because this is what gives the body plenty of energy, as well as helping you build muscle, strong bones, and balance your hormones. There are great ways of getting protein – most predominantly meat and cheese. But what if you’re vegan, or you simply want to avoid meat and dairy for a bit, these are some of the surprising sources of protein you should consider.

Soybeans
Unless you’re a non-meat eater, you may not be familiar with soybeans as a source of protein. But, it’s about time you discovered them because they can be an excellent alternative to the meat you would normally have. Processed soy, like tofu, is actually a really great addition to your diet. It can offer you a lot of benefits, such as iron, fiber, and protein. There are loads of great recipes you can try that utilize soy really well.
Quinoa
Quinoa is something you may not yet have discovered, and it’s about to change your life. We actually love how versatile it is, and you can always add stuff like lemon juice, or chili to improve the flavor somewhat. Yes, it’s predominantly carbs, but it’s also a great way of getting some plant-based protein into your diet as well. Quinoa is probably the best rice substitute on the market, and we love the way it can effortlessly double up as a great source of pretty much everything!
Black beans
Black beans are hugely underrated for the simple reason that they tend not to look very appetizing. But, you need to get past this stigma and start giving them more of a chance, because this will help you get some lush protein into your diet. Fiber and iron are available in abundance here, and they are really great when doubled up with rice.

Chickpeas
Chickpeas are also hugely underrated, and another example of some great, healthy alternatives that we just don’t use enough. They can be used as a filling meat substitute, or to bulk out things like curries. Chickpeas can be very versatile, and there are plenty of recipes out there that allow you to make full use of them as much as possible. Start adding these to your diet, and you’ll find yourself in a much better position moving forward.
These are just a few of the great foods you can use as sources of protein that don’t involve having meat or dairy. There is a lot of really great plant-based protein, and it’s important to get this into your diet as much as you can. It’s a healthy alternative and a great way of ensuring that you get some variety in your diet.

Many people like to go to the gym to get fit and healthy. Others prefer things like running, cycling, or swimming. But, if none of those really appeal to you, we recommend you check out Pilates, as an excellent way of improving how your body works. The great thing about Pilates is that it gives you an important workout that is also not too intensive as well.
These days pilates classes are pretty common, so you should have no problem finding someone to give you the sort of class that will appeal to you. But, before you start signing up, and handing over your hard-earned cash, you’ve got to think about what Pilates is, and how it can benefit you. So, with that in mind, here are some of the great things we feel you should know about Pilates.
What is Pilates for?
Well, in many ways Pilates is the ideal modern exercise for many people. The reason for this is because it gives the perfect balance between working out the body and the mind. It’s so important these days to make sure you look after your body and mind, so you have a healthy balance. It’s a great way of boosting your body and helping yourself heal from injuries and recuperate.

It’s great for relieving back pain
Back pain can be one of the most debilitating things in the world, and you need to look for ways of helping alleviate this pain. It is proven that back pain can actually be improved and relieved by taking Pilates classes, and this is really important. You actually need to start taking classes to help you build a stronger back, and reduce the risk of further pain and injury at a later date.
The are two different kinds of Pilates classes
One thing to understand before you sign up is that there are different kinds of Pilates classes you can take. One is a mat class, which utilizes mats similar to yoga mats, and cushions pressure points in order to improve body and mind. The other class involves a machine known as a reformer. Though this is less common, it is one of the most effective ways of ensuring you get the full Pilates workout.
Combine it
In order to get the best possible outcome from your Pilates, you should make it part of an existing fitness plan. That means you’ve got to make sure you do as much as possible to involve other fitness elements as well. Muscles that you might be missing

googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘ad_pos_sp-desktop-top’); });

We all know that humans have very similar bodies, and our genetic makeup is such that our interiors are very similar. But, what if you discovered that this wasn’t actually necessarily the case? Well, it turns out that our bodies might not all be as similar as we originally thought they were. As we know, there are parts of our bodies that seemingly serve little purpose, such as our wisdom teeth.
But, we bet you didn’t know that the same thing is true with regard to muscles in the body as well. Indeed, many of the muscles in the body actually have no function, and some people even lack these muscles at all! So, how do you know whether you’re lacking in muscles, and which ones might you be missing? Well, you may not even notice, because these muscles generally aren’t used, so genetics makes them disappear for some people.
Occipitalis minor
This is perhaps one of the most useless and pointless muscles in the entire body, and we can definitely see why it basically disappeared in some people. This is a muscle located at the base of the skull, that helps with allowing people to move their skull lightly. Of course, this is not an essential evolutionary trait these days, so, unsurprisingly, many people no longer have the muscle. Almost a third of Europeans, as well as around half of Japanese people are born without it.
Pyramidalis
The wonderfully named pyramidalis is a muscle that is located in the abdomen. It is a triangular-shaped muscle, and, while most people have two, around twenty percent of people don’t have one at all. The function of it is completely pointless, so you’re not missing out if you don’t have one. It’s difficult to tell whether or not you have one, and that should indicate to you how much of a meaningless muscle it actually is.

Sternalis
This is a muscle that almost nobody has – in fact, previous studies showed that 6 out of 32,000 women actually have this muscle. It’s a muscle that runs vertically across the sternum, and rests on top of the pectorals, though it is unknown exactly what the purpose of this muscle really is. This is a muscle that is so uncommon that we actually know hardly anything about it these days. Only around eight percent of human beings are thought to have this muscle.
Plantaris
Yes, this might sound like one of the stars of Alpha Centauri, but it’s actually a muscle of around 2-3 inches, found at the top of the leg. This muscle actually seres more of a purpose than the others, but still not a major one – it helps with the flexing of the knee. However, you can still get along perfectly fine without this muscle, therefore it is basically pointless.Despite this, it can be very useful if you need to have surgery – so, if you’re one of the ten percent you’re in luck.
These are just a few of the muscles in the body that are missing or have disappeared in some people. There are a lot of muscles that we simply don’t need and never use, and the body just makes them disappear after a while. These are some of the examples of muscles that only a select number of people actually have, and you might be one of them.

How the Indiana Pacers scored eight points in 9 seconds

Basketball, man! We just can’t get enough of this game. Like many people, we were late to the party when discovering how amazing basketball is as a spectacle. But, once we understood the appeal and the way the game works we were hooked, and we have been ever since. There’s a reason the NBA is one of the most watched and lucrative sporting leagues in the world.
The game is rip-roaring, frenetic, and utterly compelling, and every week we seem to see some truly stunning contests. There are so many excellent games and some teams who simply play wonderful basketball. One of the most memorable games in living memory came way back in 1995 and still lives in the memories of fans across the globe.
The game
The date was May 7th, 1995. The venue, Madison Square Garden. The two teams were the New York Knicks and the Indiana Pacers who were going head to head. The match was one of the craziest ever seen in the NBA, and filled with controversy, excitement, and eventual Knicks heartbreak, as the Pacers wound up 107-105 winners. Now, what is even more amazing about this result is the fact that the Knicks were nailed-on favorites, and they had a 105-99 lead going into the final 18 seconds.

What happened?
As Knicks fans were preparing themselves to celebrate, calling home to tell loved ones, and deciding what bars to hit after the game, the unthinkable happened. One moment they were staring Eastern Conference semifinal victory in the face, the next they were nursing heartbreak. Reggie Miller, the Pacers’ MVP and the man nicknamed Knick Killer, struck against the NYK once again. Miller scored a stunning 8 points in just 9 seconds, right at the death, to see the Pacers claim their famous win.
How did he do it?
So, how did Miller manage this? It’s a pretty impressive feat, even for a professional player. Well, it’s documented that Miller was one of the finest three-point shooters the sport has ever known, and that is still the case today. But, the manner of the 8 points he scored here was so dramatic that it has gone down in the annals of NBA history. After throwing two 3-pointers in quick succession to tie the game at 105-105. After throwing one 3-pointer, he stole the subsequent pass and scored another almost immediately. Then, after a defensive foul, he dispatched two free throws to clinch a memorable victory. The Knicks never recovered.
As you can imagine this is one of the greatest and most dramatic NBA matches of all time. Reggie Miller cemented his status as one of the greatest ever players and the nemesis of the Knicks. Ending the game with 31 points, and lifelong hatred from Knicks fans, Miller played his entire career for the Pacers. If you ever get the chance to revisit this game, we definitely recommend it. You can probably find it on YouTube, and they always show highlights of it on TV. This is the game to show people who haven’t yet been bitten by the basketball bug.
