‘We are happy to have you in the team’ – Arsenal board told player

Arsenal snapped up French striker Alexandre Lacazette from Ligue 1 side Lyon for a then-club record fee of £46.5million in July 2017.
The 27-year-old scored 37 goals in 45 games in his last season at his former club but couldn’t replicate that dazzling form in his debut season at the Emirates Stadium, ending the campaign with 17 goals in 39 appearances.
The signing of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang six months after Lacazette’s arrival threatened the first-team chances of the Frenchman, and after seeing himself become backup to the Gabonese upon the arrival of manager Unai Emery last summer, Le10Sport claimed he was keen on leaving before the end of the summer transfer.
The Arsenal star has now revealed that the club never wanted to sell him at any point in time, as the board assured him over the summer transfer window that they are happy to have him around.
“Scoring on my debut was a good start but I knew I wanted to be better,” Lacazette told the club’s official website.
“But overall I’m happy because I now know the league, I know my team-mates at the club, and the club is happy with me because they didn’t want to sell me over the summer.
“They said, ‘We are happy to have you in the team’ and I just want to improve and be better and better every day.”
Despite starting just 19 league games this term and coming off the bench eight other times, Lacazette has registered 12 goals and five assists, and is set to surpass his tally from last season.
He is proving himself every other game and is very important to Emery’s plans despite not being the first-choice striker.
The France international is slowly establishing himself as a fans’ favourite, and could end up becoming an Arsenal legend if he keeps getting better and delivering on a consistent basis.

'Perfect fit' – Jenas urges Tottenham to splash 'huge money' on versatile attacker

'Perfect fit' – Jenas urges Tottenham to splash 'huge money' on versatile attacker – originally posted on Sportslens.com

Former Tottenham midfielder Jermaine Jenas has urged the club to sign David Brooks.
The young attacking midfielder has been very impressive for Bournemouth since joining them in the summer from Sheffield United.
Brooks has been a key source of creativity for Eddie Howe’s side and he has shown that he has the ability to play for a top club.
Jenas believes Brooks could be a quality signing for Pochettino’s side even though he is likely to cost a lot of money.
He said to Goal: “I think there are a few teams that will want him regardless of how young he is. Bournemouth will be asking for a lot of money for him. He scores great goals and gets assists, but those are the easy things to spot. I love the way he receives the ball, the way he takes the ball in pressurized areas, his technique and his mentality. He has got an excellent temperament. He is strong and he can mix it with players who get nasty with him. All these things mix in to create a top player which I think he is growing into; he has all these attributes. Scoring goals and getting assists come naturally to him so he is definitely a contender for Young Player of the Year. We’re talking huge money for him, I think because he is a good player and they know what he will build into. Dele [Alli] did it, quite smoothly, Raheem [Sterling] did it at Liverpool, and I did it when I went to Newcastle. Young players have the ability to be fearless when they go to a top club and play well. David Brooks will hopefully go somewhere like Tottenham; I think that’s a perfect fit for him. He’s also the perfect fit for the club. He would get game time so it would be nice to see him at Tottenham.”
It will be interesting to see if the Londoners make a move for the £50m rated midfielder at the end of this season. He is one of the most talented young players in England right now and the Cherries will demand a premium if Spurs come calling.
The 21-year-old can operate as an attacking midfielder as well as a wide player. His versatility will give Spurs some much-needed depth as well as tactical flexibility.
In theory, he should be a tremendous addition for Spurs will have to smash their transfer record to convince Bournemouth.

'Scared of Steven Gerrard' – Adrian Durham explains why Rodgers decided to leave

'Scared of Steven Gerrard' – Adrian Durham explains why Rodgers decided to leave – originally posted on Sportslens.com

Brendan Rodgers took over at Leicester City earlier in the week.
Adrian Durham believes that the former Celtic manager is scared of Steven Gerrard and Rangers and that is why he chose to leave the Scottish giants now.
As per the talkSPORT presenter, Rodgers doesn’t want to be the guy in charge when Rangers overtake Celtic.
Durham believes that Gerrard has closed the gap between the two teams and Rangers are likely to overtake their bitter rivals soon.
He said: “I think he’s actually scared of Steven Gerrard. The fact that Rangers beat Celtic just after Christmas, that’s a worrying sign for Brendan Rodgers. We all know Celtic will win the title but if you look at how much they will win the title by, that’s the key. The gap with Rangers is getting closer and closer. He doesn’t want to be the guy who’s in charge when Rangers overtake Celtic. It’s a little bit about bottle and a bit about managing your own career but I think Gerrard has got him running scared a little bit and that’s why he’s coming to Leicester.”
Durham’s comments will certainly appease the Rangers fans but there is no doubt that Celtic are still significantly better than their rivals.
Rangers have improved immensely under Gerrard but they are still eight points off Celtic in the table.
It will be interesting to see what happens in future under Neil Lennon but it is certainly premature to claim that Rodgers was scared of Gerrard overtaking him.
Meanwhile, Rodgers has quite challenge ahead of him at Leicester City. He will be expected to turn around Leicester’s form and finish the season strongly with them.

Mauricio Pochettino reacts to Harry Kane's tussles with Chelsea players

Mauricio Pochettino reacts to Harry Kane's tussles with Chelsea players – originally posted on Sportslens.com

Tottenham Hotspur suffered their eighth defeat of the 2018-19 Premier League campaign at the hands of Chelsea on Wednesday night, and the loss effectively ended their chances of challenging Liverpool and Manchester City for the title.
Spurs couldn’t bounce back from weekend’s 2-1 loss at the hands of Burnley, and now have their work cut out for them with a visit from Arsenal next.
It had appeared that star striker Harry Kane could miss the north London derby after putting himself at the risk of being banned for his tussle with Blues defender Cesar Azpilicueta.
However, the England international has escaped any sort of punishment, and manager Mauricio Pochettino will hope he can help keep the side in third position till the end of the season.
Despite Kane’s unusual behaviour, which also saw him tussle with David Luiz, the Argentine manager didn’t see any big deal in the bust-ups.
“I think he’s competitive on the pitch. When you’re frustrated, you want to win, you want to show your character,” Pochettino told reporters when asked what he thinks of the striker’s behaviour.
“The thing that happened that we don’t know because it’s impossible from outside to the pitch to see what is going on, but that is football, it’s not a thing we must be worried (about).
“When they finish the game, I think they shake hands and big hug. And the game finished.”

— Goal (@goal) February 28, 2019

Kane has scored 15 league goals and assisted four others in 24 appearances for Tottenham this term, and he remains arguably their most important player.
Banning him would have landed a huge blow on the club’s top-four chances given how important he is to the side, and Pochettino will surely be relieved that the English striker escaped punishment.

"Manchester United will fit him" – Ex-Tottenham star says concerning four-time Champions League winner

"Manchester United will fit him" – Ex-Tottenham star says concerning four-time Champions League winner – originally posted on Sportslens.com

Real Madrid star Gareth Bale is currently struggling at the Spanish club, and he has been tipped to return to the English Premier League.
The Welsh international, who has often been linked with Manchester United left Tottenham Hotspur for Santiago Bernabeu for a then-world record transfer fee in the summer of 2013.
Bale has helped Madrid to four Champions League trophies, a La Liga title and Copa del Rey, but he has failed to live up to expectations since Cristiano Ronaldo left for Juventus last summer, and former Tottenham striker Rafael van der Vaart believes United will fit him.
“We all know Gareth, he is a little bit of a quiet boy, a fantastic guy. A great player, but I think he will feel much better when he comes back to England, and I hope he comes to Spurs, but probably that’s not going to happen,” the former Real Madrid man told BBC World Service Sport.
“Or Manchester United will fit him, a club like that.
“You know I want to see him happy because you know yesterday also he came in, you can clearly see his confidence is low because he also doesn’t feel they have confidence in him. So I think it is of the time to move for him. ”

⚽️Is it time for @GarethBale11 to come back to the @premierleague?🧐@rafvdvaart wants to see him back at #Spurs 👇 pic.twitter.com/7V0cit707x
— BBC World Service Sport (@BBCWSSport) February 28, 2019

United need top quality on the wings, and Bale has abundance of it in him.
The 29-year-old scored 42 goals in 146 league games for Spurs and has bagged 77 La Liga goals in the same amount of games for Madrid.
The Red Devils have been a shadow of their former selves since Sir Alex Ferguson departed, but things are starting to improve under interim boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and adding the Welsh winger to the squad will immensely boost their chances of competing strongly for the league next term.

Carragher has jokingly chosen who he will support come Sunday's Merseyside derby

Carragher has jokingly chosen who he will support come Sunday's Merseyside derby – originally posted on Sportslens.com

Everton host Liverpool at Goodison Park on Sunday, and after losing the reverse fixture at Anfield at the death, the Toffees will be seeking sweet revenge this time out.
A win or even draw for the hosts will deal a blow on the Reds’ title aspirations should Manchester City secure a win against Bournemouth, and the Merseyside derby could play a huge role in the Premier League race this term.
Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has been rooting for Jurgen Klopp’s side all-campaign, but he has joked that he will be sitting on the fence on Sunday having grown up as a passionate Everton fan.

Yes! Neutral on Sunday!!
— Jamie Carragher (@Carra23) February 28, 2019

The Liverpool legend cheered Everton on as a youngster as they ended a 15-year wait to win the league title in 1985, but he switched allegiances after moving to the Reds’ Academy three years later.
Carragher made his Liverpool debut in 1996, making 737 appearances across all competitions before hanging the boot in 2013.
The 41-year-old, who was named Liverpool Player of the Year thrice won two FA Cups, three League Cups, the UEFA Champions League, the Europa League and two UEFA Super Cups with the Anfield giants, with the Premier League title the only trophy that eluded him at club level.
The Reds will further strengthen their title charge with victory at Goodison Park, and after yesterday’s 5-0 demolition of Watford, the players will be full of confidence ahead of the clash.
Carragher too would be, but it’s really hard to see him not getting delighted with a Liverpool win.

'Worst player on the pitch' – Some Rangers fans tear into 26-yr-old after yesterday's win

'Worst player on the pitch' – Some Rangers fans tear into 26-yr-old after yesterday's win – originally posted on Sportslens.com

Rangers picked up a 4-0 win over Dundee in the Scottish Premiership last night.
Steven Gerrard will be very pleased with his side’s performance and he will be hoping to put together a winning run until the end of the season now.
It is the only way they have a shot at the title. Celtic are currently way ahead of them in the table and Rangers will need some luck to make up the eight-point deficit.
While the Rangers fans were impressed with most of their players out there last night, Borna Barisic’s display attracted some criticism.
Barisic wasn’t at his best last night and apart from a superb set piece, he didn’t manage to contribute to his side’s attacking play. He will know that he could have done better.
It will be interesting to see if he can bounce back with a strong performance at the weekend now.
Rangers fans have taken to Twitter to share their thoughts on the 26-year-old’s performance and here are some of the reactions from earlier.

What a free kick from Barisic! I really want him to succeed I think he has massive potential!

Newcastle fans will love pundit's bold claim involving Longstaff and West Ham ace

Newcastle fans will love pundit's bold claim involving Longstaff and West Ham ace – originally posted on Sportslens.com

Popular pundit Martin Keown has made a bold claim about Newcastle’s Sean Longstaff.
The Newcastle midfielder has been in exceptional form in the recent weeks and he has attracted a lot of praise because of that.
Former Arsenal star Keown believes that he might even be better than West Ham’s Declan Rice.
He said during the BT Sport live programme (via HITC): “This has been a Michael Carrick-type performance by Longstaff. A lot of people are talking about Declan Rice at West Ham, but I think this lad might be better”.
Rice has been in phenomenal form as well and he has been one of the best young players in the country this season.
The West Ham ace is undoubtedly England’s best defensive midfielder right now and Longstaff will certainly relish the comparisons with him.
Rice is perhaps more developed and mature at this stage but there is no doubt that both players are prodigious talents and they will have a big future in the game.
Keown’s comments will certainly excite the Newcastle United fans. On the other hand, West Ham fans will feel that Longstaff is being overrated as the flavour of the month.
The reality is both players are a key part of their team. However, they are still very young and they will only develop with time and experience.
It will be interesting to see if they can finish the season strongly and then go up a level next year.

Gary Lineker reveals how long Tottenham might have to wait for a title win

Gary Lineker reveals how long Tottenham might have to wait for a title win – originally posted on Sportslens.com

Former Tottenham star Gary Lineker doesn’t seem too happy with their performance against Chelsea last night.
The popular BBC pundit tweeted that Spurs conceded an appalling goal against Maurizio Sarri’s side and they might have to wait fifteen years to win the Premier League title.
His tweet read:

Tottenham concede an appalling own goal. Might have to wait 15 years for a title win.
— Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) February 27, 2019

Spurs fans will be disappointed with these comments but they are fully aware that their players are simply not tough enough to deal with the pressure of being in a title race.
The Londoners were in the title race with City and Liverpool but the last two results have completely damaged their title aspirations.
Pochettino will be desperate to bounce back from the defeats against Burnley and Chelsea but his side are in for another tough test against Arsenal now.
The Gunners were outstanding yesterday and they will fancy their chances against a struggling Tottenham side.
It will be interesting to see if Spurs can return to winning ways at the weekend.
They are fighting for a place in the top four now and a defeat against Arsenal could put them under a lot of pressure.

'Absolutely rotten' – Some Celtic fans aren't too happy with 27-yr-old's display last night

'Absolutely rotten' – Some Celtic fans aren't too happy with 27-yr-old's display last night – originally posted on Sportslens.com

Celtic picked up a last gasp win over Hearts in the Scottish Premiership last night.
A goal from James Forrest and an injury time winner from Odsonne Edouard sealed the points for Neil Lennon’s side.
All eyes were on Celtic after Brendan Rodgers’ surprise departure earlier in the week and the league leaders will be delighted to have won the game.
Lennon would have come under pressure if the Hoops had failed to win. Rodgers’ exit has left the fan base in a state of turmoil.
There were some impressive performances out there for Celtic from the likes of Forrest and Burke but the fans weren’t too happy with Nir Bitton’s display.
The Celtic midfielder failed to recycle the ball fast enough and he put in a clumsy show. Hearts managed to press him out of the game quite a few times and he will have to improve if he wants more first team football.
Celtic fans have taken to Twitter to share their thoughts on his performance and here are some of the reactions.
