Phil Hay responds in three words whether Leeds could sign 61-cap int'l

Phil Hay responds in three words whether Leeds could sign 61-cap int'l – originally posted on Sportslens.com

The ever-reliable Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Phil Hay has quashed all hopes Leeds fans were having to sign James Milner from Liverpool.
The 61-cap England international has enjoyed a fantastic 2018-19 campaign with Liverpool, and he can end the season with a Champions League winner medal should the Reds beat Tottenham in the final at Madrid.
The versatile midfielder is out of contract in the summer and many Leeds fans were hoping that he would return to the club where it all started for him.
Phil Hay replied to one fan who asked whether it was just a dream or if there was a chance it could happen.
He wrote on his personal Twitter page on Wednesday night, “No, not happening”.

no, not happening.
— Phil Hay (@PhilHayYEP) May 29, 2019

While Leeds fans want Milner back at Elland Road, it was always going to be difficult to lure him.
Had Leeds won promotion to the Premier League, there could have been a chance. Milner still has a lot of football left in him, and certainly, an elite player like him won’t drop down to the Championship.
Furthermore, Milner will have to take a massive pay-cut from his £140k-per-week wages. Thus playing in the Championship was not an option for the former Manchester City midfielder.
Hay has quashed the rumour once and for all, and hopefully it will not resurface again this summer. Leeds will probably follow Aston Villa’s last season transfer policy of signing young Premier League players on loan – like Tammy Abraham and Tyrone Mings – rather than devoting time on players like Milner.

Opinion: Everton man available on loan, Celtic should consider move

Opinion: Everton man available on loan, Celtic should consider move – originally posted on Sportslens.com

Celtic could be short on options at right-back this summer with up to three players potentially leaving the club. Jeremy Toljan has returned to Borussia Dortmund after his loan spell at Parkhead, Mikael Lustig is out of contract in the coming weeks and Anthony Ralston has been on the periphery.
The Hoops will need at least one player coming in the opposite direction and Jonjoe Kenny could be the ideal signing. Everton are considering loaning out Kenny this summer as he’s struggled for playing time at Goodison Park. Burnley had been linked with the 22-year-old, but Celtic should look to hijack any deal.
Kenny has made 39 appearances in all competitions for Everton, making three assists. The England u21 international finds himself behind Seamus Coleman in the pecking order under Marco Silva and might have to leave to get regular playing time.
He’s featured nine times in the Premier League, racking up 700 minutes of football in 2018/19. The right-back has created six chances, averaged 43 passes-per-game with 72% accuracy, won 23 aerial duels (68%), has a 50% dribble success rate, blocked 19 shots/passes/crosses, made 30 clearances and averages a tackle (21) or interception (17) every 21 minutes.
Celtic wouldn’t have to break the bank to sign Kenny, but whether the Hoops will make a move for the defender remains to be seen.

Opinion: Everton should sign £20k-per-week Tottenham man

Opinion: Everton should sign £20k-per-week Tottenham man – originally posted on Sportslens.com

Despite Seamus Coleman expected to be first-choice for Everton next season, the Toffees are in the market for a right-back this summer. Marco Silva has been linked with Thomas Meunier of Paris Saint-Germain, Kieran Tripper of Tottenham Hotspur and Andre Almeida of Benfica among others.
Kyle Walker-Peters might be the ideal signing, however. The Tottenham fullback has struggled for playing time due to stiff competition from Trippier and Serge Aurier and could be open to a move this summer. Walker-Peters is capable of playing at left-back and right-back and would be an improvement on Jonjoe Kenny, Brendan Galloway and an ageing Leighton Baines.
The 22-year-old has made 19 appearances in all competitions for Tottenham, scoring and creating six goals. Walker-Peters has found himself on the periphery under Mauricio Pochettino, but the Spurs boss had enough faith in the £20k-per-week defender to hand him a contract extension in December 2018.
Tottenham could be bringing a player in the opposite direction, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka of Crystal Palace and Max Aarons of Norwich City being linked, but no movement has been made yet. Whether Everton could sign Walker-Peters on a permanent or loan deal remains to be seen, but he could fit the bill at Goodison Park.

Report: United are desperate to land Spurs star with £25 million release clause

Report: United are desperate to land Spurs star with £25 million release clause – originally posted on Sportslens.com

According to The Telegraph, Manchester United are desperate to land the signature of Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Toby Alderweireld this summer.
The Belgium international has just a year left on his contract after Spurs activated the one-year option in his deal in January, but a £25 million release clause was also activated in the process, and suitors could have the chance to land one of the best defenders in the top-flight for a bargain fee.
The Red Devils need to boost their defensive ranks after a poor 2018-19, and manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants a top centre-back.
Ajax’s Matthijs de Ligt is on United’s radar, but the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona are also keen and both have a bigger chance of securing his signature.
Alderweireld has continued to stall as far as signing an extension with Tottenham goes, and the Red Devils surely are in a superior financial position to hand him a better deal.
However, it remains to be seen if the 30-year-old is willing to sacrifice Champions League football for next season and play in the Europa League.
The outcome of Saturday’s final between Spurs and Liverpool could go a long way in deciding Alderweireld’s future at the North London club, and it will be interesting to see what happens afterwards.

Opinion: Aston Villa may have to pay £20m and £1.1m wages to sign Newcastle man

Opinion: Aston Villa may have to pay £20m and £1.1m wages to sign Newcastle man – originally posted on Sportslens.com

Aston Villa could lose up to four midfielders this summer, with Mile Jedinak, Glenn Whelan, Henri Lansbury and Birkir Bjarnason having uncertain futures. Dean Smith will need at least one player coming in the other direction which could lead to a move for Isaac Hayden.
Chronicle Live recently stated that Villa could look to sign the Newcastle midfielder if they sealed promotion to the Premier League. Hayden wants to leave the Magpies to live closer to his family in the South-West, and Newcastle are expected to honour his wishes.
The 24-year-old won’t come cheap, however, with Newcastle slapping a £20m asking price on his head. Hayden was a regular for the Toon Army during the second-half of the season, leading to his value rising dramatically, and it’s worth noting that Newcastle don’t want to lose the midfielder.
He made 25 Premier League appearances this season, contributing five goals. Hayden created 22 chances, averaged 29 passes-per-game with 79% accuracy, made 12 successful dribbles (75%), blocked 34 passes/shots/crosses, made 28 clearances, won 54 aerial duels (57%) and averaged a tackle (73) or interception (40) every 17 minutes.
If Villa can meet Hayden’s valuation and match his £1.1m-a-year/£22k-per-week salary, they could procure his signature in the coming weeks. The former England u21 international has made 95 appearances in all competitions since joining Newcastle from Arsenal in 2016. He’d provide a wealth of top-flight experience to the Villa ranks.

Opinion: Aston Villa should sign £35k-per-week Newcastle defender

Opinion: Aston Villa should sign £35k-per-week Newcastle defender – originally posted on Sportslens.com

Aston Villa could turn to a former player to solve their defensive crisis this summer, with three centre-backs potentially leaving the club in the coming weeks. Ciaran Clark could be available after falling down the pecking order at Newcastle United and may be open to returning to Villa Park now they’re back in the Premier League.
Tyrone Mings and Axel Tuanzebe will leave Villa to return to Bournemouth and Manchester United after their respective loan spells while Tommy Elphick is out of contract in the coming weeks and isn’t close to putting pen to paper on an extension. Dean Smith is trying to sign Mings on a permanent deal and is interested in bringing Tuanzebe back, but he may need another defender.
Clark made only 11 Premier League appearances for Newcastle in 2018/19, racking up less than 857 minutes of playing time. The 29-year-old has spent the majority of the season as an unused substitute and being out of the matchday squad, with his last league outing coming against Chelsea on January 12.
The £35k-per-week centre-back hasn’t played since January 26’s FA Cup defeat to Watford and may have to leave Newcastle to get regular playing time. Clark made 159 appearances in all competitions for Villa between 2009 and 2016. He left when the Midlands outfit were relegated, so could he come back now they’ve returned?

Report: Newcastle ready to smash transfer record again for 22-year-old target

Report: Newcastle ready to smash transfer record again for 22-year-old target – originally posted on Sportslens.com

Newcastle United broke their transfer record during the January transfer window in 2019 when they signed Miguel Almiron from Atlanta United.
The Magpies reportedly paid £21m for the 25-year-old striker. However, they are ready to shatter their transfer record again this summer, with the club reportedly eyeing up a move for Hoffenheim striker Joelinton.
According to The Chronicle, Newcastle are ready to spend up to £40m to sign the 22-year-old striker who scored 11 goals and provided nine assists in 35 games last season for the Bundesliga outfit.
The report states that the Magpies would be willing to pay £30 million, but they can stretch it to £40 million, if needed.
Newcastle are still attempting to convince boss Rafael Benitez to stay at the club. At the same time, the club takeover rumours continue, with Sheikh Khaled being linked with a move to purchase the club from Mike Ashley.
Benitez will be given transfer funds to sign players of his choice if the takeover happens (and if the Spaniard signs a new deal) and the club will actively try to lure Joelinton with a tempting offer.

'Cracking player', 'Hope not' – Some Rangers fans divided after knowing club's latest target

Glasgow Rangers are reportedly keen to bring Eamonn Brophy to Ibrox during the summer transfer window.
Many Gers fans have taken to social networking site Twitter to express their reaction after reports broke out this week that the Ibrox club are eyeing a move for Brophy this summer.
TEAMtalk reported recently that the Gers boss Steven Gerrard is keen to sign Brophy who is seen as a potential replacement for Alfredo Morelos.
The Gers are expected to face competition from Championship duo – Leeds and Derby – both are reportedly interested in the Kilmarnock striker who is celebrating his first call-up to the Scotland squad this week.
The 23-year-old has enjoyed an excellent season for Kilmarnock in which he scored 11 times in the Scottish Premiership.
The reports have divided some of the Rangers fans on social media. While many feel that he would be a good addition to the squad, there are also some who are underwhelmed by the links.
Here are some of the best reactions from Rangers fans on Twitter:

Hope not…
— Reece (@reeceferguson72) May 28, 2019

I’d take him
— Mega Mike (@KickboxerMike87) May 29, 2019

He’s a cracking player
— Philip Ewan McGregor 🇬🇧 (@ArfieldCartel) May 28, 2019

Hope not.
— Alan Murdoch (@alanmurdoch70) May 28, 2019

I don’t think Brophy would be a bad signing for Rangers, NOT as a replacement for Morelos but a replacement for Lafferty. He’d definitely give more than he has that’s for sure
— Craig Smith (@csljm84) May 28, 2019

Brophy would be a good signing. Lad is a good player

'Would be a brilliant one' – Some Villa fans react after knowing who Smith wants to sign

'Would be a brilliant one' – Some Villa fans react after knowing who Smith wants to sign – originally posted on Sportslens.com

Many Aston Villa fans have taken to social networking site Twitter to express their reaction after the reports broke out that the club are looking to sign Neal Maupay in the summer transfer window.
According to reports from The Sun, Villa are preparing a club-record bid of £20m to sign the Brentford striker who scored 25 goals last season for the Championship club.
Dean Smith, the Villa boss signed Maupay at Brentford, and he is keen to reunite with the 22-year-old Frenchman. Villa have booked their place in the Premier League this season, and Smith will be backed by the club owners to shape the squad necessary to compete in the top flight.
Villa were keen to sign Tammy Abraham on a permanent deal, but the young striker has informed Smith and the club hierarchy that he wants to test himself at Chelsea this season.
Maupay has an excellent scoring record in the Championship, and many fans have taken to Twitter to express their reactions. Here are some of the selected tweets:

maupay would be a brilliant one!!
— Billy (@BillyAVFC_) May 29, 2019

Please!
— Keith Aston (@KeithAston8) May 29, 2019

I agree, I like Tammy but I feel Maupay edges him in a number of attributes, let’s not forget Tammy had to be persuaded to come to us at the last minute and was contemplating bailing on us in Jan.
— Aston Villa FC (@VITA_IOS) May 29, 2019

I’m seeing a lot of maupay and Marega links. Big height difference which obviously poses a problem when we cross it in a lot however… with lolley, because of his good dribbling he takes the ball close to the goal.
— Patryk Doherty #AstonVillaSteppedUp (@PatrykZD2) May 30, 2019

Blessing in disguise . Not sure he’s good enough for epl yet. If we’re gonna spend big . We need proven. Same goes with Maupay
— Kaza (@pkaza84) May 29, 2019

Best striker in The Championship last season. He wouldn’t be overawed or bullied in the Premier League and he’s clinical as all hell. £20m is a lot of money for a player who hasn’t played in that top flight, but for a 22 year old with such a high ceiling I’d be in.

According to reports from The Sun, Aston Villa are preparing a massive £20million bid to sign Neal Maupay from Brentford in the summer transfer window.
Villa booked their place in the English top flight after beating Derby County 2-1 in the Championship play-off final on Monday at Wembley.
Dean Smith is keen to be reunited with his former player who scored 25 goals in the Championship last season.
Villa were looking to sign Tammy Abraham permanently this summer but the young striker has made it clear that he wants to return to Chelsea and establish himself as a first team regular.
As a result, they are looking for options elsewhere, and have targeted the 22-year-old Frenchman.
Smith is well aware of Maupay’s qualities, having signed him for Brentford. He is a good striker, and has proven his quality in the Championship.
Villa are ready to smash their transfer record to sign the Bees striker, but they face strong competition from Burnley, Brighton, Sheffield United and Norwich City.
