Opinion: Aston Villa should sign £40k-per-week Newcastle man to replace 27-year-old

Scott Hogan is expected to leave Aston Villa this summer which may force Dean Smith into scouring the transfer market for a replacement. Villa brought in Wesley Moraes to replace Tammy Abraham, but the Midlands outfit have a dearth in attacking quality that needs addressing.
As backup, Smith could be left with Keinan Davies and Jonathan Kodjia to if Hogan leaves which won’t exactly fill Premier League defenders full of dread. Villa have been linked with a move for Dwight Gayle this summer and should consider a return for the £40k-per-week Newcastle man as they need more goals.
Gayle spent last season on loan at West Bromwich Albion and contributed 31 goals in 39 Championship games. He doesn’t appear to have a future at parent club Newcastle and will be available for £20m. The 28-year-old’s last appearance for the Magpies came against Chelsea on May 13, 2018, so Villa could easily capitalise on the situation.
There are legitimate doubts over Gayle’s ability to play in the Premier League, however, with the striker having two outstanding Championship campaigns (23 goals in 2016/17 and 23 goals in 2018/19) that were preceded by top-flight disappointment (3 goals in 2015/16 and six goals in 2017/18).
Nevertheless, Gayle has proved his worth over the last 12 months and would be a considerable upgrade on Hogan, Kodjia and Davis.

Report: Arsenal make £27 million offer for Real Madrid winger but need to add £9 million

Report: Arsenal make £27 million offer for Real Madrid winger but need to add £9 million – originally posted on Sportslens.com

According to Defensa Central, Arsenal have made a £27 million offer for Real Madrid winger Lucas Vazquez, but the La Liga outfit are holding out for £36 million.
Gunners boss Unai Emery wants to add a quality winger to his attacking ranks this summer, and he reckons the Spain international will be a perfect fit.
However, cash-strapped Arsenal might not be able to meet Madrid’s asking price for Vazquez, and Inter Milan could beat them to his signature with new manager Antoni Conte also very much keen on his services.
The Spaniard isn’t in manager Zinedine Zidane first XI and isn’t guaranteed of regular football next term.
Vazquez will be a starter at Arsenal given his quality, and the desire to make his country’s Euros 2020 squad could see him demand to leave the Santiago Bernabeu this summer.
The arrivals of Luka Jovic and Eden Hazard mean the 27-year-old will struggle for regular playing minutes, and an exit is almost a certainty.
The chance to play in the English top-flight will surely excite the winger, but a move to the Emirates could fall through if Inter or other suitors are able to beat them to his signature by meeting Madrid’s demand.
Adding Vazquez to the Arsenal attack will be a massive boost for their campaign next season, though.
The Champions League and La Liga winner brings experience and huge talent to the table.
Being in Madrid has limited his chances of establishing himself as a world beater, but a move to Arsenal will most likely take him to the next level, and it is a type of transfer the North Londoners should pull out all stops to complete.

Report: Klopp wants 20-year-old winger, four years after Everton's failed pursuit

Report: Klopp wants 20-year-old winger, four years after Everton's failed pursuit – originally posted on Sportslens.com

According to The Sun, Liverpool are keen on Borussia Dortmund winger Jacob Bruun Larsen, and could make a summer move for the youngster fours years after Everton’s failed pursuit.
The Bundesliga giants pipped the Goodison Park outfit and several others to the race of the 20-year-old in 2015, and he has steadily improved since arriving at the club from Danish club Lyngby Boldklub.
Larsen scored thrice and assisted thrice in 30 appearances across all competitions last term, and Reds boss Jurgen Klopp could be set to raid his old club.
The German was Dortmund’s manager when the Denmark youth international, who made his international senior debut in March, was signed up, but he faces Manchester United, Arsenal and some other big European clubs in the race for his signature.
Liverpool are keen to add quality depth to their squad this summer as they look to retain the Champions League and also challenge Manchester City for the Premier League next season, and Larsen fits the bill.
The Dane can be a long-term option and a perfect cover for the left wing given the lack of quality depth in the position, and securing his signature after Everton failed to four years ago would be a huge blow on the Blues, especially if he turns out good.

Opinion: Newcastle need £30k-per-week Fulham man to support 27-year-old

Opinion: Newcastle need £30k-per-week Fulham man to support 27-year-old – originally posted on Sportslens.com

Newcastle could be on the hunt for a left-back this summer due to a lack of depth in defence. The Magpies have no natural replacement for Paul Dummett in case of injury as Ciaran Clark, Javier Manquillo, Matt Ritchie and Jack Colback are makeshift options.
Aa result, Newcastle should consider a move for Joe Bryan – a player they have been linked with this summer. The £30k-per-week defender only joined Fulham from Bristol City in August 2018, but he could be on the move less than a year after his arrival.
With Fulham recently suffering relegation to the Championship, Bryan would surely jump at the chance to return to the top-flight if the situation presented itself. He made 28 Premier League appearances last season, making one assist, creating 24 chances and making 14 successful dribbles (52%).
Bryan won 31 aerial duels (46%), blocked 46 shots/crosses/passes, made 70 clearances, averaged 34 passes-per-game with 75% accuracy, whipped in 115 crosses with 19% accuracy and averaged a tackle (61) or interception (31) every 26 minutes.
Dummett is likely to remain first-choice at left-back for Newcastle next season, but Bryan could run him close. At the very least, the 25-year-old could be called upon for cup games and in case of injury to Dummett. Whether Newcastle return for the defender this summer remains to be seen, however.

Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino made the France international his top summer target as he sought a replacement for the departed Mousa Dembele, and finally landing him is a huge boost.
However, while both clubs have agreed agreed on a fee, L’Equipe claims Spurs are yet to finalise personal terms with Ndombele.
The player’s representatives and Tottenham are expected to meet in the coming hours in order to get the deal over the line, and after visiting the North London outfit last month and getting convinced by Pochettino to join the club , it is almost certain that the 22-year-old will be playing under the Argentine next season.

Report: Villa hopeful of securing deal for 24-year-old Smith target

Report: Villa hopeful of securing deal for 24-year-old Smith target – originally posted on Sportslens.com

According to reports from Bristol Live, Aston Villa are still hopeful of securing a deal for Adam Webster.
Villa are looking to bolster their defence in the summer transfer window, and have earmarked the Bristol City defender as one of the prime targets.
The Robins had rejected a £12 million from the Villans for the 24-year-old already, with the Championship outfit looking at a fee in the region of £30 million.
Webster is arguably one of the best central defenders in the Championship and he has the potential to thrive in the top tier of English football.
Despite their desire to keep him at Ashton Gate, Bristol will not come into the way of his dream of playing in the Premier League.
However, they want any potential club to meet their asking price. Villa are looking for a compromise here by paying between £20 million and £25 million.
The newly promoted club are hopeful that a deal can be reached between the two clubs.
Webster was in terrific form last season, and he would be a quality signing for the Villans.

Report: Leeds weighing up move for 31-year-old from rival club

Report: Leeds weighing up move for 31-year-old from rival club – originally posted on Sportslens.com

According to reports from Football Insider, Leeds United are planning to sign Brentford goalkeeper Luke Daniels in the summer transfer window.
Marcelo Bielsa may look to add a new keeper this summer amid doubts over the future of Kiko Casilla who joined the Whites during the January transfer window.
Back in May, The Sun on Sunday (26/5; page 69), reported that Casilla could leave Elland Road this summer after a difficult spell last season.
Casilla could potentially end the window by returning to Spain, and it seems Leeds are already considering potential replacements for the 32-year-old.
The report claims that the Whites have set sights on the 31-year-old to fill either the number one spot or the number two role for next season.
Daniels joined Brentford on a free transfer in 2017 and has made 24 appearances for the club.
He has loads of experience in Football League, and could prove to be a decent signing for Leeds.
The former West Brom keeper has just a year remaining on his contract at Griffin Park, and Leeds are weighing up a move for him.

Opinion: Southampton should sign £55k-per-week West Brom man to replace 23-year-old

Opinion: Southampton should sign £55k-per-week West Brom man to replace 23-year-old – originally posted on Sportslens.com

If reports are to be believed, Southampton will sell Matty Targett to Aston Villa for £14m this summer. The 23-year-old’s move would leave Ralph Hasenhüttl short on options at left-back going into the new season, meaning he will need to scour the transfer market for a replacement.
One player the Saints should consider signing is Kieran Gibbs. The £55k-per-week West Bromwich Albion defender could be available for £3m and may jump at the chance to return to the Premier League. Gibbs joined the Baggies from Arsenal in 2017 and has gone on to make 74 appearances in all competitions.
The 29-year-old suffered relegation to the Championship in his first season at the Hawthorns and missed out on promotion to the Premier League in his second. Joining Southampton would allow him to play at the top level and potentially resurrect his England career in the process – his last England appearance was a friendly against France on November 17, 2015.
Gibbs contributed eight goals in 38 Championship games (including playoffs) in 2018/19, creating 34 chances, making 19 successful dribbles (42%), winning 39 aerial duels (45%), blocking 57 shots/passes/crosses, averaging 37 passes-per-game with 80% accuracy, made 74 clearances, whipped in 89 crosses with 24% accuracy and averaged a tackle (47) or interception (59) every 30 minutes.
The left-back would be a great signing and costs only a fifth of what Southampton could be selling Targett for.

Report: Villa eye move to sign £70k-per-week Crystal Palace target

Report: Villa eye move to sign £70k-per-week Crystal Palace target – originally posted on Sportslens.com

Aston Villa have been very busy in the summer transfer window having signed five players already.
One of the areas where Villa boss Dean Smith should be looking to bolster is the forward department.
According to reports from The Sun, Villa and Crystal Palace are interested in signing Southampton forward Charlie Austin, while Championship outfit West Brom are also keen.
The 29-year-old former Burnley player, who is on £70k-per-week wages at Southampton, will be allowed to leave St Mary’s this summer as Ralph Hasenhuttl is all set to sculpt the squad according to his own taste.
He joined the Saints in 2015, and has made 66 Premier League appearances for them scoring 16 goals.
Austin started only in 11 Premier League games last season, while a further 14 appearance came from the bench. He scored two goals and provided two assists in the league.
He is a vastly experienced striker and would be a good signing for both Villa and Palace.
The Saints are demanding £8 million for him, and both the clubs should be able to meet the asking price easily.
While West Brom are equally keen, both Villa and Palace can give him the platform to continue playing in the Premier League.

Deal close: Wolves set to seal their first signing of the summer

Deal close: Wolves set to seal their first signing of the summer – originally posted on Sportslens.com

According to reports from The Sunday Times, Wolves are close to securing their first signing of the summer transfer window.
Wolves have been very quiet this summer, but it seems they are all set to land their first signing in the form of Ezri Konsa from Brentford.
The report claims that a deal in the region of £12m for the England U21 international is close to completion.
Nuno Espirito Santo is looking to bolster the defence, and Konsa would be a very good signing for the club.
The ball-playing central defender has been on the books of Brentford since the summer of 2018, and made a strong impression last season.
Konsa made 42 appearances in the Championship last season, scoring one goal.
He is arguably one of the finest young talents in the Championship and has the potential to thrive in the Premier League.
Wolves surpassed all expectations last season by finishing seventh in the Premier League, and expectations are high this time around.
It will be a big step forward for the 21-year-old and time will tell whether he can justify his price tag.
