Pundit delivers surprising verdict on Manchester United star, wants another player sold

Pundit delivers surprising verdict on Manchester United star, wants another player sold – originally posted on Sportslens.com

Former Celtic and Arsenal forward Charlie Nicholas has described Harry Maguire’s debut for Manchester United as “average”.
The defender helped United to a 4-0 victory for Chelsea in his first game for the club, with his display earning him plenty of praise from pundits afterwards.
Maguire picked up the man of the match award after helping to keep the Blues at bay, but Nicholas was left unimpressed with his performance.
“I thought Harry Maguire was average – he did everything that was asked of him,” Nicholas told Sky Sports.
“He was efficient and got about the pitch, but I don’t want to hear nonsense about him being a leader and strong on the pitch already – it is too soon.
“He has started well, but I am suspect about the full-back positions at Man Utd. Chelsea could have easily scored two or three.
“I am still not convinced by United and I would still sell Paul Pogba.”
Maguire will make his second start for United at Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday.

Arsenal manager Unai Emery has urged the club to secure the futures of Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette.
The forward duo were both on target in the Gunners’ 2-1 victory over Burnley on Saturday to maintain the club’s unbeaten start to the new Premier League campaign.
Aubameyang scored 22 goals in the top flight last season, while Lacazette weighed in with 13, and Emery believes they are an integral part his Arsenal squad.
“They are very important players and their contracts need to be in the same balance,” Emery told Sky Sports.
“It’s one circumstance, one issue now, that the club is working on.
“Edu (Arsenal’s techincal director) is here for that reason. There’s also Raul (Sanllehi) and Huss (Fahmy) working with the players for that.
“It’s important for them, but my focus is on preparing the matches, each training session and making sure the players are focused and concentrated for us and on the work.”

Xherdan Shaqiri angling for move away from Liverpool – originally posted on Sportslens.com

Liverpool playmaker Xherdan Shaqiri is eyeing a move away from Anfield after becoming disillusioned with his lack of first-team opportunities.
The Reds paid Stoke City £13.5 million for Shaqiri during the summer of 2018, but he has failed to nail down a regular place in the starting XI.
Shaqiri started just 11 matches in the Premier League last season and has been an unused substitute in their opening two fixtures this term.
Monaco and Galatasaray have both been linked with the 27-year-old, although Shaqiri says neither club has made him an offer.
“I am disappointed that I am no longer getting to play in matches – no player is happy to sit on the bench,” he told Swiss media outlet, Langenthaler Tagblatt.
“It is clear that I would like to have more playing time. I need to take a good look at the situation and find a solution.
“Monaco and Galatasaray? I have no idea where those stories have come from. I don’t know anything about offers from those clubs.”

Reporter claims Manchester United star has agreed a deal to leave the club

Reporter claims Manchester United star has agreed a deal to leave the club – originally posted on Sportslens.com

Manchester United forward Alexis Sanchez could be set to join Inter Milan.
According to Sky Sports’ journalist, Gianluca Di Marzio, the Serie A club have reached an agreement with the 30-year-old to make the move to Italy.
Inter representatives will now meet with their United counterparts to try and thrash out a deal for the Chilean international.
The Italian outfit have already signed Romelu Lukaku from United this summer and want to reunite Sanchez with his ex-teammate.
Inter had been linked with Ante Rebic, Timo Werner, Arkadiusz Milik and Fernando Llorente, but Sanchez appears to be their main target.
The forward has struggled to find his form at Old Trafford, scoring just five goals in 45 appearances since his move from Arsenal.
Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had insisted he wanted Sanchez to stay at Old Trafford and backed him to be a success at United.
However, a parting of the ways is beginning to look increasingly likely and would leave United with Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Daniel James and Mason Greenwood as their forward options.

Brandon Barker reveals what Sterling told him when Rangers came calling

Brandon Barker reveals what Sterling told him when Rangers came calling – originally posted on Sportslens.com

Rangers snapped up English winger Brandon Barker last week, handing the young forward a three-year deal after he left Manchester City.
The 22-year-old could make his debut against East Fife in the Scottish League Cup today, but could have opted to remain in England as a number of Championship sides were interested in his signature.
Rangers boss Steven Gerrard convinced Barker to link up with him at Ibrox, and he has revealed that City star winger Raheem Sterling also persuaded him to join the Scottish Premiership side.
“Raheem told me to go for it, definitely. It was my time to move on now and I think all the boys knew that,” the forward told The Scottish Sun.
“It was sad because I’d been there 16 years and I grew up at City from being a little baby. But I needed a new home. I had needed one for the last two seasons.
“Now I have got that opportunity here and I’m just buzzing again. I learned an awful lot from Raheem, watching him grow from when he first came to what he’s doing now. We used to speak a lot and he was always really encouraging. Watching him becoming a great player in the world is great to see.”
Barker was City’s Reserve and Academy Player of the Year in 2013-2014, and he will now look to prove himself at Rangers.
He already has Premiership experience after featuring for Hibernian on a season-long loan in 2017-18, and it will be interesting to see if he can force himself into Gerrard’s first-team plans.
The City academy graduate spent last season on loan at English Championship side Preston North End and has had loan spells at Rotherham United and Eerste Divisie’s NAC Breda.
He brings quality and experience to the table, and Rangers will offer him the chance to fulfill his potential.
Sterling is convinced Gerrard can help bring out the best in him, and it remains to be seen if things will finally work out for him.

Gary Lineker's instant reaction to Moura's equalizer for Spurs

Gary Lineker's instant reaction to Moura's equalizer for Spurs – originally posted on Sportslens.com

Tottenham Hotspur held Manchester City to a 2-2 draw at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, but they were close to leaving without a point until VAR saved the day.
Gabriel Jesus appeared to have sealed a last-gasp win for Pep Guardiola’s side only for the goal to be struck off after replays confirmed that Aymeric Laporte’s hand hit the ball during the build-up.
City were the better team all day, ending the clash with 30 shots on goal, while Tottenham mustered just three.
Spurs scored from both of their shots on target, but it took the individual brilliance of Erik Lamela and Lucas Moura.
The Argentine drew Mauricio Pochettino’s men level three minutes after City’s opener, while the Brazilian came off the bench to grab Spurs’ second equalizer during the second-half.
Moura headed home from a corner just 19 seconds after coming on as a substitute, and it proved crucial for the visitors in the end.
Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker was impressed with the heroics of the Tottenham forward, and here is how he reacted to it on Twitter:

Lucas comes on and scores with Moura less his first touch.

Spurs were outclassed by an obviously superior Man. City side, but Pochettino will be glad to have nicked a point.
The North Londoners are hoping to challenge for the Premier League title this term, but they have to do better going forward, and it will be interesting to see how they fare in the end.

Report: Euros giants ready to exploit Levy's policy to land Spurs star

Report: Euros giants ready to exploit Levy's policy to land Spurs star – originally posted on Sportslens.com

According to The Sun, Real Madrid are readying a late £60 million bid for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen ahead of the European transfer window that shuts on September 2.
The Denmark international wants to link up with the La Liga giants, and while the rumours have almost died down, it appears they had hatched a clever plan to land their man all along.
Eriksen’s current contract with Tottenham expires next summer, and he doesn’t look ready to put pen to paper for a new deal.
Chairman Daniel Levy will most likely be forced to cash in on the wantaway star this summer or in January in order not to lose him for nothing.
Madrid are aware of the Spurs chief’s policy of not allowing the club’s prized players run down their contracts, and are now ready to exploit it.
Manager Mauricio Pochettino has played the 27-year-old in both of Spurs’ Premier League games of the new season, but did admit the player’s future is uncertain.
Madrid see Eriksen as the successor to Luka Modric, and with a move for Manchester United’s Paul Pogba proving herculean, they are hoping they can seal a deal for the Tottenham midfielder.
Spurs have already prepared for the Dane’s exit after bringing in a direct replacement in Giovani Lo Celso from Real Betis, and it wouldn’t come as a surprise should they flog him in the coming days.
