Pochettino explains why Tottenham didn't make transfer decision some fans once wanted

Pochettino explains why Tottenham didn't make transfer decision some fans once wanted – originally posted on Sportslens.com

Tottenham Hotspur entered the record books during the last summer transfer window as they didn’t make a single signing.
It remains to be seen if they will be active in the ongoing winter transfer window, but manager Mauricio Pochettino has revealed that the London club can’t afford to emulate the top clubs financially as they practically don’t have the means to.
Some Tottenham fans certainly wanted Moussa Sissoko out of the club after he failed to hit the ground running upon arriving for £30million in the summer of 2016.
However, Pochettino kept faith in the France international, and he has since become an integral member of the squad.
“I love to work with players and help them to improve,” Pochettino said, as reported by Evening Standard.
“To be honest that is why [chairman] Daniel Levy offered me the contract. At Espanyol and Southampton, we worked so hard to improve players.  Maybe at another club, after one year if it doesn’t work it is easy to move on the players without giving them the opportunity to adapt.
“Sometimes you need patience to give your best. There is too much pressure [on players] sometimes. Tottenham is a very good club to come to because if you struggle for six months, you still have the opportunity to show your quality. At other clubs you don’t have that.”
Letting go of Sissoko a few months ago remains a transfer decision most Spurs fans would’ve wanted, but they sure would have learned a thing or two about patience right now following his change of fortunes.
The 29-year-old has played 22 games across all competitions this term, starting 18 of them, and with Mousa Dembele seemingly on his way out of the club, Sissoko is set to even become crucial to Pochettino’s plans going forward.

Report: Leeds set to sanction third transfer in the space of 24 hrs, defender undergoing medical

Report: Leeds set to sanction third transfer in the space of 24 hrs, defender undergoing medical – originally posted on Sportslens.com

According to reports from the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds United defender Paudie O’Connor is all set to join Bradford City on loan in January.
The 21-year-old joined Leeds academy from Limerick in 2017, and made four league appearances for the Yorkshire club towards the end of last season.
He did not feature in the first team plans of current boss Marcelo Bielsa and was sent on loan to Blackpool. He joined on a season-long deal in July and played 17 times for the club.
However, his appearances in League One were limited to 10. Manager Terry McPhillips used him in Saturday’s FA Cup clash with Arsenal, a game Blackpool lost 3-0, but it seems his spell at the club has come to an end.
The Irish centre-back returned to Leeds after that tie with a view of signing for fellow League One side Bradford until the end of the term.
Although Bradford City are a mid-table side that are battling relegation under former Leeds midfielder David Hopkin, the youngster is certain to get more first-team football at Valley Parade.
He will be the third Leeds defender to depart in the space of 24 hours following Conor Shaughnessy’s loan move to Hearts and Lewie Coyle’s temporary move back to Fleetwood Town.

Report: Four clubs including Newcastle in the hunt to sign 25 y/o int'l

Report: Four clubs including Newcastle in the hunt to sign 25 y/o int'l – originally posted on Sportslens.com

According to reports from the Daily Mail, four Premier League clubs including Newcastle United are showing interest in signing former Tottenham Hotspur winger Clinton N’Jie.
The report claims that Marseille have made N’Jie available on loan with a view to a permanent deal, and the Magpies are one of the clubs vying for his signature.
The Cameroon international joined Spurs in 2015 and joined Marseille on a season-long loan deal in the summer of 2016. He later made the move permanent in 2017.
The 25-year-old failed to make an impact in the Premier League during his time at Spurs, but it seems the Magpies and others are willing to take risk with him.
He scored nine goals in all competitions last season, but this season hasn’t gone according to his plans. He has only featured four times, with just a goal to his name.
Rafael Benitez will be looking to bring some new players in January and bolstering the attacking department could be one of his priorities.
However, he should look for proven goalscorer who can make an immediate impact, and doubts remain whether N’Jie can do that job.

Chris Sutton gives his reaction to Celtic's 'exciting' January signing on Twitter

Chris Sutton gives his reaction to Celtic's 'exciting' January signing on Twitter – originally posted on Sportslens.com

Celtic completed the signing of Timothy Weah on a loan deal last night.
The Scottish giants confirmed the arrival on their official website. Weah will spend the remainder of the season on loan at Parkhead and there is no option to sign the player permanently.
Former Celtic star Chris Sutton has reacted to the signing on social media.
He tweeted that it is an exciting signing for Celtic and if the player is half as good as his father (George Weah), Celtic are in for a treat.
His tweet read:

If he is half as good as his dad Celtic are in for a treat… exciting signing! https://t.co/Eh1KPIVQRw
— Chris Sutton (@chris_sutton73) January 7, 2019

The youngster is highly rated in Europe and Celtic weren’t the only club looking to bring him in. It will be interesting to see if he can adapt to the league and express himself properly in the next few months.
Weah can play as a striker or a wide forward. His versatility will certainly be a major plus for Brendan Rodgers. The Celtic manager lost Arzani and Griffiths earlier this season and he needed to improve his attack in January.
The arrivals of Burke and Weah could not have been better timed.
The fans will be excited and they will be hoping to see their new signings in action later this month.

Phil Hay provides transfer update regarding Bielsa's plan on int'l player linked with Leeds

Phil Hay provides transfer update regarding Bielsa's plan on int'l player linked with Leeds – originally posted on Sportslens.com

It is no open secret that Leeds United are looking to sign a goalkeeper in the January transfer window.
This is one position where Marcelo Bielsa needs to bolster after Jamal Blackman returned to his parent club Chelsea, following a serious injury.
Bailey Peacock-Farrell has done well but he has made mistakes in recent months, and thus, Leeds need someone who can challenge him for the number one spot.
Leeds have been linked with a host of goalkeepers in the last few months, and one them has been Tom Heaton.
The vastly experienced Burnley keeper who has represented the England national team has struggled for regular games this season under Sean Dyche.
The Sun reported in November that Heaton will consider a move to Leeds, should there be an offer on the table.
The 32-year-old would have been a good addition to the squad, but according to Yorkshire Evening Post reporter Phil Hay, Bielsa doesn’t want the former Cardiff City keeper.

been told for the past month that Bielsa doesn’t want Heaton.

Leeds United have made an approach to sign Newcastle United goalkeeper Karl Darlow, and want a loan move for him. However, Newcastle want £4 million for him which could force the Whites to look for options elsewhere.

Report: Tottenham could sell striker this month

Report: Tottenham could sell striker this month – originally posted on Sportslens.com

Tottenham are considering selling striker Vincent Janssen, and are keen to start talks over his future, according to Daily Mail.
The 24-year-old has suffered with a string of injury problems since a £17m move from AZ alkmaar in July 2016. His most recent, a foot injury, kept him out for the first-half of the season.
A 45-minute appearance for Spurs U-23’s was the first competitive action he had seen in a Spurs shirt since August 2017. The Dutchman spent last season on loan to Turkish giants Fenerbache. However, an ankle fracture kept him out for a large part of season, that led to him making only seventeen appearances, scoring five goals.
Janssen arrived in North-london with huge expectancy to become a key player. His season with AZ saw him score an  32-goals in 49-appearances.
After such an impressive season, Janssen was awarded The Johan Cruyff Trophy (Dutch Football Talent of the Year). An award previously won the likes of Robin Van Persie, Arjen Robben, Wesley Sneijder, and Tottenham team-mate Christian Eriksen.
Janssen could yet have a future at Tottenham. However, with Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Fernando Llorente ahead of him in the pecking order, chances of first-team football would be few and far between.

Report: Celtic keen on 25 y/o int'l, player looks set to leave club – originally posted on Sportslens.com

Scottish champions Celtic yesterday confirmed the arrival of fellow American international Timothy Weah on loan from Paris Saint-Germain on a deal until the end of the season, but there could be more new faces to arrive at Parkhead in January.
According to reports from the Scotsman, Celtic are keen to sign USA midfielder Wil Trapp.
The 25-year-old defensive midfielder could leave Columbus Crew in MLS after six years of stay at the club, and Celtic are reported to be showing keen interest in signing him.
The Bhoys were also linked with Alberth Elis of Houston Dynamo but the rumour was quashed by the Parkhead club.
Trapp has 177 senior appearances under his belt for the MLS club, and has scored two goals as well. He has also made 11 appearances for his country.
He played in his country’s 3-0 defeat to England at Wembley in November last year.
Trapp is a good player and could be a decent replacement for Scott Brown who is attracting interest from clubs in Australia.

Report: Tottenham player 'discussing' his exit after club submit lucrative offer

Report: Tottenham player 'discussing' his exit after club submit lucrative offer – originally posted on Sportslens.com

According to reports from the Daily Mail, Chinese club Beijing Guoan offered £11million for Belgium midfielder Mousa Dembele.
The 31-year-old, who joined Spurs from Fulham in 2012, has been a key player for the north London club over the years. However, Spurs will be willing to cash in on him as his contract is set to expire at the end of the season.
The report claims that Mauricio Pochettino is willing to sell the Belgium international. Spurs have plenty of cover in midfield and they are now talking with the player over a potential exit.
Dembele has returned to training after nursing his ankle ligament injury, but he hasn’t been included in the squad to face Chelsea.
The Belgian midfielder is reportedly struggling with the rigours of a Premier League season, and he will welcome a move to China.
The emergence of Oliver Skipp and the resurgence of Moussa Sissoko means Spurs have enough cover in that position. Eric Dier, Harry Winks, and Victor Wanyama are other options in midfield for Pochettino.

After waiting for more than a month, Leeds United skipper Liam Cooper returned to action on Monday night for the under-23.

The 27-year-old played at the heart of defence alongside Spaniard Hugo Diaz and was at his commanding best. Cooper was the first man to attack the ball to clear the danger and showed his arial presence as well.
After the game, Cooper took to social networking site Twitter to express his reaction.

Cesc Fabregas has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge and the Spaniard is likely to be dropped. Eden Hazard should also return to the side.
