Midfield problems for Swansea boss Potter, key man ruled out for Stoke trip

Swansea City visit Stoke City on Tuesday aiming to stay in touch with the leading sides in the Championship.
The Swans head into the game sixth in the table, three points behind leaders Leeds United, while Stoke are 20th after winning just once this season. Despite the contrasting starts to the season, the bookmakers have the Swans at 33/10 to win the game – those are great odds if you fancy the away side to capitalise on Stoke’s defensive failings this season.
Graham Potter’s side drew 0-0 at home to Nottingham Forest over the weekend in a game that was devoid of chances and the City boss will hope to see more attacking endeavour from his players on Tuesday.
Stoke blew a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 at Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday and they are continuing to find things difficult following their relegation from the Premier League.
Potter has a selection headache in midfield, with Tom Carroll the latest concern after he missed the Forest game with a hip injury.
Leroy Fer (groin) and Jay Fulton (head) are also doubtful, leaving Matt Grimes as their only fit, senior midfield option.
Kyle Naughton could play in the middle of the park after filling that role as a substitute against Millwall and Forest, while Martin Olsson may be recalled at left-back.
George Byers could also come into contention further forward if Bersant Celina is ruled out after joining the injury list against Forest.
Tuesday’s trip to Stoke is a lengthy one for Swansea fans to undertake, but this Bet UK away day guide will tell you everything you need to know.
The home side dropped out of the top flight alongside Swansea at the end of last season, but they are struggling to adapt to life in the Championship.
However, they did the double over Swansea last season and are rated as 10/11 shots by Bet UK to pick up three points on Tuesday.
Stoke have lost just one of their last six games against Swansea, while the visitors have recorded just four victories from 33 trips to the Potteries in the last 93 years.
Manager Gary Rowett was understandably frustrated at his team’s failure to hang on to a two-goal lead at Hillsborough and Swansea will be confident they can add to his troubles.
The Potters were expected to be amongst the front-runners for promotion this term, but it appears they are still suffering a hangover from last season and the visitors are fancied to pick up at least one point on Tuesday.

Massive boost for Bielsa as Leeds duo close to returning to first team action

Massive boost for Bielsa as Leeds duo close to returning to first team action – originally posted on Sportslens.com

According to reports from the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds United duo Gaetano Berardi and Jamie Shackleton are close to returning to first-team action.
However, neither of them would be fit to play in the Championship clash against Preston North End on Tuesday night.
Leeds confirmed on Thursday evening that Berardi could be facing another three weeks out with a knee injury. However, Marcelo Bielsa has said that both Berardi and Shackleton are close to returning to first-team action.
Schakelton, who has impressed this season under the Argentine, is expected to return to training at the end of the week as he recovers from an ankle injury.
It is indeed a positive news for Bielsa, as the Argentine is without several key players already. Kemar Roofe is struggling with a calf problem, and Pablo Hernandez is out with a hamstring injury.
On top of that, Patrick Bamford won’t play again before the end of the year, while Izzy Brown is still recovering from tearing his ACL in January.

'Beautiful, magical': Some fans drool over Celtic player's stunning display for reserves – originally posted on Sportslens.com

Daniel Arzani found the back of the net for the first time since joining Celtic on loan while playing for the reserves on Monday.
A number of Celtic fans have taken to Twitter to comment on his performance and they were very pleased with his effort for the Hoops.
Arzani, the Manchester City-owned youngster appeared to be the Hoops’ most exciting signing this summer. However, he is yet to make his first-team debut for the club and fans were worried about his future when he was omitted from their Europa League group-stage squad recently.
The winger showed his class during Celtic’s reserves’ 2-0 win against Aberdeen on Monday afternoon, as he scored from a delicious free-kick.
He curled the ball into the corner from just outside the box, and there were plenty of Celtic fans who were delighted to see the Australian making a strong impact.
Many Celtic fans have suggested that he needs to be in the squad for this weekend’s clash against Kilmarnock. Here are some of the selected tweets:

Daniel Arzani… Get used to that name.

just back from reserve game. 2 great goals. Arzani doesn’t look that far from being ready for 1st team. Morgan looked sharp in 2nd half. Benyu? Not great. Armstrong had some nice touches.

Arzani has his first and from a dead ball no less, something we badly need in the first XI. If his development continues, he may be called up sooner than thought. https://t.co/L0uUdUC1xX

Arzani clearly has raw potential the free kick goal taken with applomb

In-form Newcastle player hoping for January loan move

In-form Newcastle player hoping for January loan move – originally posted on Sportslens.com

Highly rated Newcastle United young attacker Cal Roberts has admitted that he is seeking a loan exit in January in search of regular first-team football.
He has given hope that he can step up from the academy to the first-team, but despite putting in some impressive performances, the 21-year-old is still yet to make his senior debut for the Magpies.
Speaking to the Chronicle, he said: “Hopefully I can get that loan move in January. It’s probably the closest some of us will get to a first team game in the first half of the season.
“If we can keep putting in performances like [the 5-0 win over Sunderland] I don’t see what can go wrong.”
The exciting young winger impressed during the pre-season, and has shone at youth level too, producing a fantastic performance in the recent 5-0 thrashing of derby rivals Sunderland.
However, there is Kenedy, Christian Atsu, Jacob Murphy and Matt Ritchie above him in the pecking order, and therefore a temporary move away from the club in January could be a smart idea.
His recent performances suggest that he is ready to make the step up to senior football. And there will be no shortage of clubs who would be keen to sign him.
He is at an age where regular football is necessary for his development. Newcastle cannot provide him with that opportunity at the moment, so a loan move will suit all parties involved.

Celtic could sign 20-year-old midfielder after Rangers miss out on deal

Celtic could sign 20-year-old midfielder after Rangers miss out on deal – originally posted on Sportslens.com

Glasgow Rangers were reportedly keen on bringing Sean Longstaff to the Ibrox club during the summer transfer window. However, they face competition with Celtic now keen on the midfielder.
The Gers were one of the clubs interested in signing the 20-year-old midfielder. They had tracked his progress for a while but failed to get a deal over the line.
Rangers could regret failing to sign him as reports from The Chronicle suggest that arch-rivals Celtic have joined the race for his signature.
The young midfielder is considered to be one of Newcastle’s brightest prospects, but he has failed to break into Rafael Benitez’s starting plans.
Celtic watched him recently during Newcastle’s U23 game. Longstaff is a highly talented player and could improve Brendan Rodgers’ options for the second half of the season.
His contract expires in 2019, and Celtic could get him at a bargain price if they sign him on a pre-contract agreement in January.
Rangers identified his talent way before Celtic, and they would certainly hope that the transfer doesn’t go through or that Longstaff does not excel at Parkhead.

'Not good enough': Popular pundit rips into Everton duo after West Ham defeat

'Not good enough': Popular pundit rips into Everton duo after West Ham defeat – originally posted on Sportslens.com

Popular football pundit Andy Gray has severely criticised Cenk Tosun and Oumar Niasse following Everton’s 3-1 defeat to West Ham on Sunday at Goodison Park.
Andriy Yarmolenko scored a brace and Marko Arnautovic added another as West Ham earned their first Premier League win of the season.
It was a flat performance from Everton but Gray has particularly picked the two players for criticism.
The beInSports football pundit says that the attacking pair of Cenk Tosun and Oumar Niasse are not good enough for a top quality Premier League side like Everton.
“There’s a lot of players that they have got that are out of the side. What he needs to do is get them all fit. What my problem will be is I didn’t see it today. I didn’t see Tosun being good enough. We saw Oumar Niasse not good enough at this level,” he told beIN SPORTS.
“When I say this level, I mean the top half of the Premier League. Those boys are not good enough.”
Niasse scored eight goals in the Premier League last season. Tosun is yet to find the net this season but he has impressed at times with his overall involvement.
Everton lack a top quality striker, and Marco Silva may need to delve into the transfer market to sign a striker in January.
Tosun is a good player but if he cannot score 15-20 odd goals in a season, then he cannot be allowed to continue for a long time. The same applies for Niasse.

"Perfectly suited for me': Rangers fans will simply love 21-year-old's latest comments

"Perfectly suited for me': Rangers fans will simply love 21-year-old's latest comments – originally posted on Sportslens.com

Glasgow Rangers summer signing Joe Worrall has said that the Ibrox club is perfectly suited for him.
The 21-year-old defender joined the Gers on a season-long loan from Nottingham Forest towards the end of the summer transfer window.
He is a highly-rated young talent with three England under-21 appearances under his belt, but it seems he will have to wait for his chance.
Worrall is yet to play for Rangers, with Steven Gerrard picking Connor Goldson and Nikola Katic ahead of him.
However, he has spoken highly of Rangers, saying it is a massive club. He adds that he is keen to play in front of the Ibrox faithful and that the club is perfect for him.
Speaking to the Nottingham Post, he said: “Forest are big but Rangers is a step up. You look at the training ground and see pictures on the wall of who’s actually played for the club.
“The expectations are massive here. It’s perfectly suited for me. Everything he (Steven Gerrard) said is true. It’s a massive club with great facilities. Playing at Ibrox in front of those fans is something I can’t wait for.”
Rangers are a massive club no doubt, but Forest have great history and tradition as well. By saying Rangers are a ‘step up’ over them, it shows that Worrall is already picking his allegiance to the Scottish giants over his parent club.
The Gers fans will be delighted to see his passion for the club. Rangers are playing well at the moment, and Gerrard is in no hurry to break his defensive partnership.

'Impossible to say': Bielsa suggests when he can pick 21-year-old for Leeds

'Impossible to say': Bielsa suggests when he can pick 21-year-old for Leeds – originally posted on Sportslens.com

Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa has told Leeds Live that Izzy Brown could remain on the sidelines for a longer spell before being considered fit enough to play.
The 21-year-old joined Leeds United from Chelsea on loan late in the summer transfer window. He arrived with an injury and hasn’t featured for the Whites yet.
Bielsa has informed that the highly-rated attacking player has not even trained with the squad and that it is ‘impossible’ to predict when can be selected for the first team.
“It’s a very different case. It’s been a long time since he played, he still needs to recover,” Bielsa said.
“He hasn’t started to play with the ball, he hasn’t played with us so far. It’s impossible to say when he will be fit. It won’t be a short time.”
Leeds United have made a great start to the season, but Bielsa is facing a strong challenge as his striking options are currently short.
Patrick Bamford is a long-term absentee while Kemar Roofe didn’t play against Millwall at the weekend. The Argentine was forced to use Tyler Roberts during their Championship clash.
It remains to be seen when Brown returns to action, but Leeds fans can expect him to return before Bamford.

'Made my mind up': 23-year-old lifts the lid on Celtic interest

'Made my mind up': 23-year-old lifts the lid on Celtic interest – originally posted on Sportslens.com

Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn has said that he had had his mind set on joining the Villans despite strong interest from Celtic.
The 23-year-old, who is a boyhood supporter of Celtic, was heavily linked with a move to the Bhoys in the summer transfer window.
Celtic have had bids rejected for the Scottish midfielder but he ended up moving to the Villa Park instead.
He has now lifted the lid of Celtic’s interest and said they were never really close to signing him, although he had an emotional attachment to the club.
He said to the Scottish Sun: “It was very stressful on the day. Are you making the right call?
“At that time, Celtic, a team I have supported all my life, came in and were tugging on the heartstrings but it didn’t really get to that stage.
“I had made my mind up to sign for Villa and thankfully I have made the right decision.”
McGinn is a quality player and undoubtedly would have bolstered Celtic’s midfield. The former Hibs midfielder has made a strong impact already in the Championship, earning rave reviews from the Villa manager, Steve Bruce.
It must have been a very tough decision for McGinn to reject the advances of Celtic, but he feels that the move was the right decision for him.
He would be an asset for Villa, and is already becoming a favourite among the fans. It remains to be seen whether Celtic have missed out or dodged a bullet.
