'Brilliant' – World class manager raves about Rangers' European performances

'Brilliant' – World class manager raves about Rangers' European performances – originally posted on Sportslens.com

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has praised Rangers for their start to the season under Steven Gerrard.
The German doesn’t think that the former Liverpool captain is in need of any managerial tips and his side are doing just fine.
Klopp added that Rangers have been brilliant in Europe and despite the derby defeat, they are closing the gap with Celtic.
He said: “I have seen a few games because Stevie has three of my former players, two on loan and Flano [Flanagan]. He [Gerrard] is doing well. I am not sure what the Rangers fans expect but the start was brilliant actually. Then you lose against Celtic. Wow, what a surprise! That is a top team in the league. Celtic were not 50 or 60 per cent better like in the last few years so they are coming closer. That is the only way to get them one day. That is his job to do but, so far – more than good. It is good football. In Europe, it was brilliant. So they have a good team together. They have to improve – that is it.”
Gerrard and the Rangers fans will be delighted to hear these comments from a world-class manager.
It will be interesting to see where Rangers finish in the Scottish Premiership this season. They will be expected to challenge Celtic after the start they have made. However, it won’t be easy and Rangers will have to be consistent.
Steven Gerrard’s men have been very hard to beat this season and if they can keep up that level of performance, they will be closer to Celtic.
It is unlikely that they will win the title this season but there is no doubt that Rangers are on the right track.
Rangers take on Dundee in the Scottish Premiership this weekend and they will look to close the gap with Celtic with a win.

West Ham missed the chance to sign summer target on cheap, he will now cost £107m

West Ham missed the chance to sign summer target on cheap, he will now cost £107m – originally posted on Sportslens.com

During the summer transfer window, West Ham had been reportedly in talks to sign Joao Felix from Benfica.
According to reports from ESPN, the Hammers even sent a delegation to Portugal to snap up the signing of Felix, who is seen as one of the best young talents in his country.
The Hammers spent big this summer, but his signing would have been a major coup for them. However, it seems they have missed the chance, and they will have to pay a hell lot of money if they want to sign him in the future.
According to Portuguese news outlet Record, super-agent Jorge Mendes is working on a new deal for the Benfica attacker.
The club are looking to tie him down on a long-term deal, and are looking to insert a massive release clause worth over £100million into any new agreement.
West Ham spent big on Issa Diop and Felipe Anderson this summer, but it is hard to see them paying such a ridiculous money for a young player, no matter how talented he is.

England vs Switzerland injury update and predicted starting line-ups; Chelsea and Arsenal stars set to start

England vs Switzerland injury update and predicted starting line-ups; Chelsea and Arsenal stars set to start – originally posted on Sportslens.com

England host Switzerland at the King Power Stadium on Tuesday aiming to bounce back from last week’s 2-1 defeat against Spain.
Manager Gareth Southgate is expected to make numerous changes to his starting XI as the Three Lions bid to return to winning ways.
Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli has withdrawn from the squad with a minor muscle strain, while Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw has left the camp following the concussion he suffered in a nasty collision with Dani Carvajal at Wembley on Saturday.
Chelsea star Ruben Loftus-Cheek is the likely replacement for Alli, with Spurs’ defender Danny Rose in line to replace Shaw.
Arsenal forward Danny Welbeck may play instead of United star Marcus Rashford who is struggling with a hamstring problem.
Manager Gareth Southgate has brought in Leicester City’s Ben Chilwell and Demarai Gray from the Under-21s, but neither are expected to start the game.
Switzerland head into the game in buoyant mood having defeated Iceland 6-0 over the weekend.
Tuesday’s game will be the 25th meeting between these two teams, with England winning 16 and losing just three.
Predicted starting line-ups:
England: Butland, Walker, Stones, Tarkowski, Alexander-Arnold, Rose, Dier, Delph, Loftus-Cheek, Kane, Welbeck.
Switzerland: Sommer, Mbabu, Akanji, Schar, Rodríguez, Xhaka, Widmer, Seferovic, Shaqiri, Zuber, Embolo.
Odds: England 4/6, Switzerland 4/1, Draw 13/5.

£21.6m int'l teammate would be ideal replacement for £55k-per-week Spurs star

£21.6m int'l teammate would be ideal replacement for £55k-per-week Spurs star – originally posted on Sportslens.com

Tottenham Hotspur should look to sign Youri Tielemans in the January transfer window.
The highly-rated Belgian midfielder has had a decent-but-not-spectacular campaign since his 21.6 million move from Anderlecht in 2017.
The 21-year-old carved his way into the Belgium national team recently and played alongside Tottenham midfielder Mousa Dembele against Scotland.
He said after the match: “In the match against Scotland I was very happy with Mousa Dembele. Whether we will kick off against Iceland again, I leave it to the national coach.”
Dembele, who is on £55k-per-week wages at the north London club, has been a key player for Spurs since he joined the north London club from Fulham in 2012. However, his contract at Tottenham runs out next June and he could be looking to move elsewhere.
Mauricio Pochettino should look to sign Tielemans as a potential replacement for Dembele.
While he may not have done well since his move to France, his record for Anderlecht is enviable – he scored 35 goals and provided 31 assists in 185 matches.
He is very young and raw and has the potential to be a top-class player. Pochettino loves to work with young talents, and Tielemans would be an ideal signing for the club.
Tielemans could be available at a decent price, and Spurs should move for him in January before his value hikes up.

Crystal Palace receive major injury boost ahead of Saturday’s meeting with Huddersfield

Crystal Palace receive major injury boost ahead of Saturday’s meeting with Huddersfield – originally posted on Sportslens.com

According to the Evening Standard, Crystal Palace could welcome Wilfried Zaha back from injury when they travel to face Huddersfield Town in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
The Ivorian international was absent for the Eagles’ 2-0 defeat to Southampton on September 1 with a left abductor problem but has worked hard in the last week to be fit for the Huddersfield meet.
Zaha has started the new season strongly, scoring two goals in three Premier League appearances while lighting up games with top performances. It’s also worth noting that Palace haven’t won a league game without him since September 2016.
He signed a new deal with Palace last month that will keep him at Selhurst Park until 2023 and his potential return this weekend will be another boost. The Eagles are currently 15th in the Premier League with three points from four games this season, having lost their last three games.
Zaha could be the difference for Palace ahead of Saturday’s clash with Huddersfield Town. He returned to Selhurst Park from Manchester United two years ago and has made 127 appearances in all competitions in his second stint. He has enough time to recover to travel to the Kirklees Stadium.

Southampton could lose forgotten man, poor Hughes’ treatment may lead to January move

Southampton could lose forgotten man, poor Hughes’ treatment may lead to January move – originally posted on Sportslens.com

Fraser Forster has an uncertain future at Southampton. The experienced goalkeeper has become a forgotten man under Mark Hughes, falling down the pecking order so much he no longer makes the matchday squad. Twelve months ago, Forster was indispensable and one of the first names on the teamsheet. Now, it appears he’s expendable and could be on his way out when the winter transfer window opens in January.
Signed from Celtic in 2014, the 30-year-old has gone on to make 124 appearances for Southampton in all competitions. He was a regular between the sticks until last season, where he was dropped in late-December for Alex McCarthy after suffering a poor run of form. The following season has seen Angus Gunn become the second-choice goalkeeper, with Hughes saying in August that Forster was free to leave for more playing time.
The England international remained at St Mary’s after the summer transfer window closed, however, but doesn’t look likely to get himself back into the starting lineup. With Forster not even making the matchday squad and having yet to make an appearance in 2018/19, he’s likely to be very frustrated with his manager. It would be a shock if he stayed at Southampton past January should his situation not improve.

Steve Bruce plots transfer masterstroke to save Aston Villa's faltering season

Steve Bruce plots transfer masterstroke to save Aston Villa's faltering season – originally posted on Sportslens.com

Aston Villa are ready to move for Robert Huth on a free transfer.
According to Birmingham Live, Steve Bruce has considered signing the German center-back in order to fix his side’s defensive issues.
It is believed that John Terry was a target for the Championship outfit but the former England international is heading into Russia with Spartak Moscow.
Aston Villa have been very poor at the back so far and it has cost them a good start to the season. If they want to challenge for promotion this season, the back four needs to improve immediately.
Someone like Huth will not only improve their organization at the back, he will add some much-needed leadership to the side as well.
The German has plenty of experience at the top level and he has won the Premier League with Chelsea and Leicester City. Signing him on a free transfer should be a no-brainer.
His arrival could finally fix Villa’s defensive woes and kick-start their season.
Earlier in the summer, we explained how signing the German could save Aston Villa’s season and it would be a transfer masterstroke from Steve Bruce.
Aston Villa fans are keen on the signing as well. Here some of the fan reactions to the speculation.
@StevePhllips81: Not Collins surely, I’d have Huth for a season. People laughed when I said we should have made a cheeky bid for Albrighton in the transfer window, and now folk are actually wanting Collins back…?
@TheRealbaretta: Huth only one I’d like to see at the club.
@Razor_Sharper: Gutted about JT. I think he thought he was coming back too! Huth would be my second choice.

£120k-per-week player reveals what he told Marco Silva about his Everton future

£120k-per-week player reveals what he told Marco Silva about his Everton future – originally posted on Sportslens.com

Everton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin has admitted that he spoke with new manager Marco Silva over his long-term future at the club.
The 28-year-old, who is on £120k-per-week wages, didn’t enjoy a memorable 2017-18 season and there was speculation over his long-term future at the Merseyside club.
He joined from Manchester United for a hefty transfer fee of £20 million, but the Frenchman has done little to justify his price tag.
The French international was honest to admit that he was average at best last season and even contemplated leaving the club.
However, he told Silva that he wants to stick with Everton and is prepared to work hard to regain his trust among his teammates and the fans.
Speaking to the Times, Schneiderlin said: “I knew I had to work twice, maybe three times as hard as anyone else because I knew some people and some fans would see me in a different way. That is what I said to the manager. I said I was prepared to do that and that was what I have done.”
He revealed that Silva has been very helpful in transforming his game. The Portuguese boss wants his midfielders to have discipline and self-awareness, and it has helped Schneiderlin prosper.
Schneiderlin has made three Premier League starts so far, and has been very impressive. With 92% passing accuracy and two tackles per game, he is already becoming a key player for Silva.

Unused substitute, low down Bielsa’s pecking order – Leeds utility man is now an outcast

Unused substitute, low down Bielsa’s pecking order – Leeds utility man is now an outcast – originally posted on Sportslens.com

Stuart Dallas played a full 90 minutes for Northern Ireland in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Bosnia-Herzegovina, but the Leeds United midfielder hasn’t had much luck getting game time at club level this season.
Dallas has made just one start under new manager Marcelo Bielsa, against Preston North End in the League Cup, having been reduced to late cameo appearances in the Championship.
The utility man, who has played in a number of defence and midfield roles in his three years at Leeds, now finds himself an outcast. In United’s six league games this season, Dallas has been an unused substitute on four occasions.
His most recent outing for the Whites was a one-minute cameo from the bench against Middlesbrough on August 31. As things stand, his future at Elland Road is uncertain with Barry Douglas, Luke Ayling, Kalvin Phillips, Ezgjan Alioski and Mateusz Klich nailing down places in the first-team.
Despite being capable of playing left-back, right-back, left, right and central midfield, Dallas has been low down on Bielsa’s pecking order. Leeds’ fantastic start to the season hasn’t helped matters either, as it’s all the more unlikely that a notable squad change will be made when the team keeps winning.
Signed from Brentford in 2015, the 27-year-old has gone on to make 119 appearances in all competitions for Leeds, scoring and creating 22 goals. He was a regular in the past but could now find himself on the periphery in 2018/19.

Arsenal suffer injury blow ahead of Newcastle meeting on Saturday, full details disclosed

Arsenal suffer injury blow ahead of Newcastle meeting on Saturday, full details disclosed – originally posted on Sportslens.com

According to the Evening Standard, Arsenal have suffered an injury blow to Lucas Torreira, with the midfielder picking up a calf problem on international duty that threatens to rule him out of Saturday’s Premier League meeting with Newcastle United.
For Uruguay, Torreira was substituted at half-time against Mexico on Saturday. His side won the game 4-1, but he spent the second-half with ice-pack strapped to his leg. It could be bad news for the Gunners, but the combative 22-year-old is yet to be assessed so he may yet be given the green light to play.
Signed from Sampdoria this summer, the South American has gone on to make four appearances in all competitions for Arsenal. He’s yet to start in the league under new manager Unai Emery but has been given over 110 minutes of playing time from the bench.
Arsenal haven’t had the best start to the season. The Gunners currently sit ninth with six points from a possible 12, having lost their first two outings against Manchester City and Chelsea before beating West Ham United and Cardiff City.
Their next opponents Newcastle have fared even worse. United are currently 18th in the table with only one point to their name.
