Chelsea and Arsenal interested in 24-year-old, Mourinho makes decision on shot-stopper

According to Portuguese outlet Record, Chelsea and Arsenal are interested in Odisseas Vlachodimos. The Benfica goalkeeper is being monitored by the Premier League duo and had been linked with Manchester United – Jose Mourinho has reportedly made a decision not to sign the shot-stopper, however.
Vlachodimos joined Benfica from Panathinaikos in the summer and has gone on to make 10 appearances in all competitions. The 24-year-old, who has made one appearance for Germany at u21 level, signed a five-year deal for the Portuguese Primeira Liga outfit so he may not be open to another transfer.
Chelsea have Kepa Arrizabalaga, Willy Caballero and Rob Green as first-team options between the sticks, but only Kepa has a long-term future. Caballero and Green are 36 and 38 respectively so their interest in Vlachodimos makes sense. Arsenal have a similar predicament also, with the 36-year-old Petr Cech being out of contract next summer and being in need of replacement.
New signing Bernd Leno is likely to be Arsenal’s first-choice between the sticks after Cech, but Vlachodimos could be a secondary option in the future. Record say 18 clubs have monitored his progress at Benfica so there’s a lot of competition to procure his signature.

Man Utd would agree £200m deal for 25-year-old who ‘wants to go’, Mourinho desperate to sell

Man Utd would agree £200m deal for 25-year-old who ‘wants to go’, Mourinho desperate to sell – originally posted on Sportslens.com

According to the Mirror, Manchester United would agree a £200m deal for Paul Pogba who reportedly ‘wants to go’ after an ongoing fallout with manager Jose Mourinho. The United boss is desperate to sell Pogba, having recently taken away the captaincy on a permanent basis, so a transfer could be on the cards in the coming months.
Barcelona are interested in his signature but won’t meet his lofty asking price to bring Pogba to the Camp Nou. Given Mourinho doesn’t want the French international at the club anymore and the player himself is unhappy and looking for a way out, Barca should be able to agree a deal for much less than £200m.
Since leaving Juventus to return to United in 2016, Pogba has gone on to make 95 appearances in all competitions, winning the Europa League and League Cup under Mourinho. However, his time at Old Trafford looks to be up as his fallout with Jose has come to a head – resulting in Pogba being dropped against Derby County in the third round of the League Cup.
It’s unknown if the World Cup winner would be moved on mid-season, but there may be new developments made when the winter transfer opens in January.

Report hints player responsible for West Ham's hesitation in handing Rice improved new deal

Report hints player responsible for West Ham's hesitation in handing Rice improved new deal – originally posted on Sportslens.com

West Ham United are stalling in handing Declan Rice an improved new deal, according to Mirror Football, with claims that the club and player’s representatives are some distance apart on wages.
The Hammers are ready to offer the teenager £15,000-per-week, a massive increment compared to his current £3,000 wages.
However, Rice’s camp are holding out for £30,000, despite the fact that the club’s proposed wages would rise again to £20,000-a-week once he makes 15 Premier League starts.
The versatile West Ham academy graduate surely deserves to be offered what he has demanded, given that some of his peers and club mates even make much more, and considering his huge potential.
However, it’s believed the London Stadium club reckon the deal could be an incentivized one, having seen the progress of Reece Oxford stall after handing him a massive £20,000-per-week deal following his breakthrough some three years ago.
Since then, the 19-year-old defender has failed to impress on loans at Reading and Borussia Monchengladbach, and he is currently with West Ham’s youth side, with his quality deemed not good enough for the senior side.
Rice has had a similar rise, getting named as the club’s Young Player of the Year for the last two seasons after going on to impress since his debut last year.
It remains to be seen if West Ham will agree to the 19-year-old’s demands, but he surely is worthy of every penny of a £30,000-per-week deal, and there is no need denying him his deserved reward because of Oxford’s shortcomings.

Why Marco Silva's latest comments should excite and inspire Ademola Lookman

Why Marco Silva's latest comments should excite and inspire Ademola Lookman – originally posted on Sportslens.com

The future of Ademola Lookman at Everton came under heavy doubt this summer following RB Leipzig’s strong interest in snapping up the 20-year-old.
The winger had an impressive loan stint at the Bundesliga side during the latter half of last season, bagging five goals in 11 league appearances, and the German club were said to be willing to part with £25million for his services on a permanent basis.
However, Everton held on to the potential star, with manager Marco Silva and director of football Marcel Brands claiming that Lookman remains part of their plans.
The youngster has made just two Premier League appearances – totalling 46 minutes – thus far this season, and while that could further make him impatient and probably push him towards another temporary exit in January, Silva’s latest comments should offer him some hope.
Everton boasted an average age of 24.7 against Arsenal over the weekend – the joint youngest of any Premier League side this season – with 20-year-old Tom Davies and the 21-year-old trio of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Jonjoe Kenny and Richarlison all impressing.
Silva afterwards claimed age isn’t a factor he considers when picking his teams, and that should excite and inspire Lookman.
“It is important [the young players are comfortable against quality opposition]. It is something you are looking for. Their age is not important,” the 41-year-old told Everton’s official website.
“If you are doing well, I am here to give chances to everyone. Then it is up to them to show me they can perform. That is our way.
“All our 26 players know our way and they have to show during the week they are ready to play – and then show what they can do at the weekend.”
Lookman has the experienced 29-year-old Theo Walcott and Brazilian duo Bernard and Richarlison to challenge for top-flight playing minutes at Goodison Park, and despite that daunting task, he can rest assured of getting his fair share of opportunities as long as he impresses Silva and takes his chances.

Arsenal could lose central midfielder to Juventus, 27-year-old ‘will see contract expire’

Arsenal could lose central midfielder to Juventus, 27-year-old ‘will see contract expire’ – originally posted on Sportslens.com

According to Calciomercato, Arsenal could lose Aaron Ramsey to Juventus. The central midfielder ‘will see his contract expire’ this summer and isn’t close to agreeing to an extension with the Gunners. As a result, the 27-year-old could make the switch to Turin next summer when he’s available for a free transfer, provided his personal demands aren’t too high.
The report states Juve may opt against a January deal for Ramsey as they’re looking for a cheaper solution to bringing the Welsh international to Italy. If Arsenal are resigned to losing the midfielder, Juve can play the waiting game and allow his contract to run down in a similar fashion to Emre Can at Liverpool.
Ramsey has made 337 appearances in all competitions since his move from Cardiff City in 2008, winning three FA Cups and two Community Shields. He’s been a regular in recent years and has become a key player for club and country due to his high levels of industry and eye for goal. It’s not hard to see why Juventus would be keen to procure his signature.
Unfortunately for Arsenal, they may be losing the battle to keep Ramsey at the Emirates Stadium. Losing him for free would be a major blow.

Official: Jurgen Klopp confirms Liverpool outcast will start against Chelsea

Official: Jurgen Klopp confirms Liverpool outcast will start against Chelsea – originally posted on Sportslens.com

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp confirmed Simon Mignolet will start against Chelsea in the third round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night. The Reds host the Blues at Anfield and could make a number of changes for the meeting. Liverpool travel to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday evening so Klopp will want to preserve the fitness of his best players.
The German coach only revealed Mignolet’s selection but did say it would be a “good side” that faces Maurizio Sarri’s men. The Liverpool goalkeeper, who joined from Sunderland in 2013, has been on the periphery of late, being an unused substitute in all but one of their games this season. He played second fiddle to Loris Karius in 2017/18 but is now behind Alisson in the pecking order.
“The only position I will confirm today that we will change if nothing happens in training is Simon. Simon will start, all the rest you have to wait until tomorrow – but it will be a good team, believe me. Nothing else to say about line-up or who can have an opportunity or whatever.
“Each game is an opportunity and it’s all about is it the situation for it, is the player ready – there are different things you have to consider when think about the line-up, especially for a cup game like this. It will be a very good side that we will line up tomorrow.”
Wednesday’s meeting will be a big opportunity to show Klopp that he can be relied upon, although it will be unlikely that he edges his way ahead of their first-choice shot-stopper regardless of his performance. Mignolet has made 202 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool but wanted to leave in the summer as he was unwilling to be a backup in 2018/19.

Manchester United ‘keen to sign’ 20-year-old, Mourinho desperate to strengthen key area

Manchester United ‘keen to sign’ 20-year-old, Mourinho desperate to strengthen key area – originally posted on Sportslens.com

According to the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United are ‘keen to sign’ goalkeeper Paul Woolston, who is currently on trial with the Red Devils. Manager Jose Mourinho is keen to strengthen his options between the sticks as United have a dearth of senior goalkeepers.
Dean Henderson, Joel Pereira and Kieran O’Hara were loaned out in the summer, Sam Johnstone was sold and Max Johnstone was released along with Ilias Moutha-Sebtaoui and Theo Richardson, forcing the club to sign replacements.
Henderson, Pereira and O’Hara are expected to return to United after their temporary spells away from Old Trafford, but Mourinho could make Woolston his latest signing. The 20-year-old previously played for Newcastle United and was released prior to the new season.
An England u18 international, Woolston failed to make a first-team appearance, instead turning out for the u18s and u23s in addition to embarking upon loan moves away from St James’ Park – Gateshead, Darlington, Blyth Spartans and South Shields.
MEN say Woolston may be open to a move abroad but his trial at United could amount to him agreeing personal terms. There’s no confirmation yet, but the Red Devils have been actively looking to bolster in this area.

Chelsea could lose highly-rated 27-year-old with Barcelona chasing his signature

Chelsea could lose highly-rated 27-year-old with Barcelona chasing his signature – originally posted on Sportslens.com

According to Sportmediaset, Chelsea could lose their highly-rated midfielder N’Golo Kante, with Barcelona keen on procuring his signature. The 27-year-old was recently named in the FIFA FIFPro World XI after another outstanding year of performances for club and country. Kante helped France to World Cup glory in Russia over the summer and has picked up where he left off this campaign.
Barcelona have reportedly been paying attention to the diminutive midfielder, but Calciomercato say Paris Saint-Germain could throw a spanner in the works – with a number of players trying to convince Kante to come to the Parc des Princes. He appears keen to stay at Stamford Bridge, but Barca aren’t likely to give up their pursuit just yet.
Ernesto Valverde strengthened his midfield with the signing of Arturo Vidal from Bayern Munich, somewhat replacing Andres Iniesta with a more combative influence to help dominate duels in the middle of the park. Vidal joins Sergio Busquets, Ivan Rakitic in the engine room. The Liga giants have been heavily linked with Manchester United’s Paul Pogba too, but whether or not they make an official bid for his services remains to be seen.
Regardless, their alleged pursuit of Kante is likely to be unsuccessful. The Frenchman, who has made 96 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea since leaving Leicester City in 2016, has won the Premier League title and Fa Cup with the Blues and has shown no desire to exit.

West Ham star raves about his teammate, sends out a message to the club

West Ham star raves about his teammate, sends out a message to the club – originally posted on Sportslens.com

West Ham defender Pablo Zabaleta has urged the club to agree on a new deal with Declan Rice.
The highly talented midfielder’s contract expires in 2020 and the Hammers cannot afford to lose him.
Rice is the most promising young talent at the club right now and he could develop into a real star for Manuel Pellegrini.
The young midfielder was excellent in the Premier League clashes against Chelsea and Everton and he has shown that he is already a valuable first team player for the Hammers.
Zabaleta has lavished praise on his West Ham teammate. The Argentine believes that Rice has the right attitude and ability to develop into one of West Ham’s greatest players.
He said: “He is young and still has room for improvement for sure. But he has the right ability and attitude to become one of the greatest players for West Ham. He is in the last year of his contract so West Ham need to think about his situation because, even though he is young, he looks so mature and is proving he can perform for the team. He is one of those young players you like to look after and help with all the information you can give him.”
As per reports, the Hammers offered him a deal worth around £12,000-a-week but it has been turned down.
It will be interesting to see if West Ham improve on their recent offer. Rice is a top class talent and he certainly deserves to earn a lot more.
If the Hammers fail to match his demands, it won’t be long before a top club comes in and steals him away from them.

Chelsea will be without Van Ginkel, Loftus Cheek, Rudiger and Pedro for this game.
