Scott Brown tells Celtic to expect plenty transfer bids coming in for trio

Celtic couldn’t hold on to academy graduate Kieran Tierney any longer after Arsenal finally tabled £25 million for his signature last week.
The left-back might not be the only star leaving Parkhead this summer, though, as Russian giants Zenit St Petersburg are keen on winger James Forrest.
The Scottish Sun claims they are prepared to pay Celtic £12millon in order to get him and will offer him a whopping £70,000-a-week wages.
The 28-year-old emerged as the Player of the Year last term, and despite still having three years remaining on his current contract, the Scottish giants are looking to hand him a new long-term deal.
Celtic won’t be able to match the wages Zenit are reportedly offering, though, and while that could tempt Forrest, skipper Scott Brown believes he won’t be keen on leaving this summer or anytime soon.
“Jamesy deserves people looking at him, deserves people putting in bids for him. He is in a great place for us at the moment. But our main focus is trying to get into the Champions League and have a good season and that is Jamesy’s focus too,” he told The Scottish Sun.
“Don’t get me wrong, it is great that people are looking at our players and willing to put in that sort of money.
“But as it stands just now Jamesy is a Celtic player. I am sure we will see a lot of bids coming in for him, Mikey Johnston and Ryan Christie too as they are top-quality players.”
Brown also reckons both Mikey Johnston and Ryan Christie are definitely going to attract plenty transfer bids, and it will be interesting to see if Celtic can hold on to the trio and other top stars going forward.
European clubs will always table big offers to both the Hoops and wanted players, and they could be tempting to knock back.

'We clash a lot' – Pochettino opens up about his arguments with Spurs ace

'We clash a lot' – Pochettino opens up about his arguments with Spurs ace – originally posted on

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has revealed that he has a lot of arguments with Jan Vertonghen during the training sessions.
According to him, the defender always pushes him to challenge the players and there is nothing negative about their training ground clashes.
Pochettino added that Vertonghen is a top-class player and he is one of the best defenders in Europe.
He said: “It is true that we clash a lot in training because [Jan] is clever and always has an argument and a reason why, but in the end, I appreciate a lot his efforts in giving the team what we expect from him. It is good to praise him because he is a very good player who sometimes does not get valued enough. I am so proud that he has achieved this level today. Not only on the pitch but off the pitch. In my opinion, he’s one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League and in Europe.”
The Spurs star did not start the game against Aston Villa due to fitness issues and he will be looking to return this weekend.
Vertonghen is one of Tottenham’s best players and Pochettino will need him as the season progresses.
He helped the Londoners reach the Champions League final last year and he will be hoping to win a trophy with Spurs this year.
It will be interesting to see if Spurs manage to go all the way this time.
Players like Vertonghen will be crucial to Tottenham’s aspirations this season. The Belgian will be hoping to resolve his contract situation with the club this year.
Pochettino wants to keep him at the club for the upcoming seasons as well.

Report: Celtic looking to sign 24-yr-old defender before the window closes

Report: Celtic looking to sign 24-yr-old defender before the window closes – originally posted on

Celtic are interested in signing the Rosenborg defender Birger Meling.
According to former Norway footballer Jesper Mathisen, the Hoops want to sign him as a replacement for Kieran Tierney.
The 24-year-old has done well with Rosenborg and he could prove to be a solid addition to Neil Lennon’s side.
Celtic sold Tierney to Arsenal earlier this summer and they have banked £25m from his sale.
The Scottish champions are now expected to bring in a quality replacement and it will be interesting to see if they can sign Meling in the coming weeks.
Celtic have signed Boli this summer but he has failed to adapt to the Scottish league so far. The young left-back has been quite underwhelming since joining Celtic.
Lennon must look to get in another defender before the window closes.
Meling will add quality and a winning mentality to the side. He has won several trophies with Rosenborg and Celtic know the player very well.
They have played against Meling in the recent seasons.
Celtic have the resources to pull this off and it will be interesting to see if they can get the deal over the line now.

Report shares the three major reasons why Poch dropped Vertonghen for Villa game – originally posted on

According to The Times’ Sports reporter Gary Jacob, Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino dropped Belgian defender Jan Vertonghen from the Aston Villa game last weekend as he wanted to make a statement and because of the player’s fitness levels and pre-season form.

Spurs came back from a goal down to secure a 3-1 victory over the newly-promoted side on Saturday, with Davinson Sanchez and Toby Alderweireld playing in centre defence.
Pochettino decided to exclude the Belgium international from his starting line-up and entire matchday squad, and the Argentine manager claimed the 32-year-old was left out of the squad for purely tactical reasons.
However, it seems there were more reasons as to why he wasn’t in the boss’ plans.

Report: Gerrard preparing for Tavernier's January exit, identifies highly-rated Argentine as replacement

Report: Gerrard preparing for Tavernier's January exit, identifies highly-rated Argentine as replacement – originally posted on

According to The Scottish Sun, Rangers are eyeing Lanus right-back Leonel Di Placido as a potential replacement for James Tavernier should the Light Blues skipper leave Ibrox in January.
English Premier League clubs were keen on the Gers star during their summer transfer window and could return with better bids come winter.
Manager Steven Gerrard doesn’t want to be caught unaware and is preparing a plan B in the Argentine should Rangers cash in on Tavernier.
Di Placido is also a wanted man in the Premier League, with Crystal Palace eyeing him as a replacement for Aaron Wan-Bissaka, while La Liga sides Espanyol and Leganes and Ligue 1 club Amiens are also keen.
Rangers could do with such a quality right-back who has established himself as one of the best in his position in the Argentina’s Primera Division.
Di Placido caught the eyes of Argentine national team selectors, earning a call-up from boss Lionel Scaloni for the friendlies with Guatemala and Colombia last year, but he didn’t play in either game.
Rangers can snap the 25-year-old up for £1 million, but could decide to loan him first before deciding whether to buy him permanently in the summer.

The 2019-20 Social Media Football League

The 2019-20 Social Media Football League – originally posted on

The 2019-20 Premier League season kicked off over the weekend with Liverpool beating newly-promoted Norwich City 4-1 at Anfield.
Manchester City ended the opening weekend top of the table following their 5-0 thrashing of West Ham United at the London Stadium. The defending champions have now won 15 consecutive league matches prior to hosting Tottenham Hotspur this weekend.
Whilst Pep Guardiola’s side topped the Premier League last season and are many people’s favourites to win the title again this season, they aren’t the biggest supported team from England.
That honour belongs to Manchester United, who have over 123 million followers on their English Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts. The Red Devils have more than double of the followers that their city rivals have on both Twitter and Instagram and aren’t far off doubling their rivals’ Facebook fan count either.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side hammered Chelsea in Frank Lampard’s first game in charge on Sunday. The result left the Blues one place off the bottom, but in terms of social following, the West London club are second top. Despite having fewer Twitter followers than London rivals Arsenal, Chelsea come out on top in Facebook and Instagram in comparison to the Gunners.
Arsenal are third in the table, closely followed by 2018-19 Champions League winners Liverpool.
At the other end of the table, newly-promoted Sheffield United sit in 20th with just over half a million followers on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram combined. Along with the Blades in the relegation zone are Brighton & Hove Albion and Burnley.
The full Premier League Social Media table is as follows:

It looks as though we’re in for another thrilling season in the Championship. Two games into the season and only Sheffield United and Charlton Athletic have maximum points. 21 of the 24 clubs have already picked up points in what is usually a tight and unpredictable league.
One of the three clubs without a point so far this season is Stoke City. However, Graeme Jones’ side are the most popular club on social media in the division. The Potters have a combined 2,687,254 followers on the three social media channels we collected data for on Monday. That’s more than eight current Premier League sides.
Stoke are closely followed by Swansea City in the automatic promotion places, whilst West Bromwich Albion lead the chasing pack with more than 2 million followers. The Baggies are widely-expected to be competing at the top end of the table this season, particularly after their excellent transfer window.
Propping up the table are Luton Town with little more than 200,000 followers combined. That’s fewer than seven sides in the division below the Hatters. Joining Luton in the relegation zone are Preston North End and Barnsley.
The full Championship Social Media table is below:

Sunderland are the runaway leaders in League One. In terms of social media followers anyway. The Black Cats are closing in on three million followers, with more than half of those being on Facebook. They have more than five times as many followers than second place Bolton Wanderers.
The Wanderers could do with monetising their social media accounts given the dire financial situation they are which sees them playing kids this season. Bolton are yet to score in their two opening games of the 2019-20 League One campaign but got a respectable 0-0 draw against Coventry City this past weekend.
Portsmouth, Ipswich Town, Blackpool and Coventry make up the playoff spots. The full League One Social Media table is as follows:

Salford City are competing in the football league for the first time in their history. The Ammies got off to a perfect start with a 2-0 victory over Stevenage in their opening fixture, but were brought back down to earth by going down by the same score at Crawley Town in their next outing.
Backed by the Class of ’92, Salford’s 371,393 social media followers is 42nd overall in England – good enough for a place in the Championship.
At the very bottom of the football league are Morecambe. The Lancashire club have just 75,192 social media followers across Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. The full League Two Social Media table is below:
