Here is how some Nigerians reacted to Joe Aribo's international debut – originally posted on

Rangers midfielder Joe Aribo played international football for the first time ever on Tuesday night, making his bow for the Super Eagles of Nigeria in a friendly against Ukraine.
The 23-year-old London-born Gers man was handed a start by manager Gernot Rohr with Leicester City’s Wilfried Ndidi missing due to injury, and Aribo definitely proved his quality.
The Rangers midfielder scored four minutes into the game that eventually finished 2-2 and he took charge of proceedings in the middle of the park.
The West African giants are looking to rebuild their team after the likes of John Mikel Obi and Odion Ighalo hung the boots after the African Cup of Nations, and Nigerians reckon they have found the next best thing in midfield in Aribo.
Here is how some of them reacted to his performance against the Ukrainians on Twitter:

In Joe Aribo, Nigeria has finally found that No.10 replacement for Okocha. What we thought we had in Mikel. His b2b runs are tremendous. A new star is born!#UKRNGA #UKRNIG

That number 10 jersey looks good on you, Aribo.

The first half of the game against Ukraine was superb for the super eagles..the 2nd half for me was nothing to write home about..Uzoho , Aribo and etebo were quite impressive though. glad to also see some of the new young stars in action @olywal
— Salami Sodiq (@salami_sidiq) September 11, 2019

I like Aribo, if you listened to the show when we talked about the list I highlighted he is decent. Uzoho had a good evening too, can’t fault him for the goals conceded really.
— Faulkner Joseph (@kallyjoe) September 11, 2019

@olywal Hi Wale.Great game with so many positives.Chukwueze needs 2 work on his final ball and be less selfish, same goes 4 Samuel Kalu.Joe Aribo is one sure midfielder we aven’t had 4 so long,Osimhen has proved to Rohr he can be our new no9,Not a fan of Uzoho but he impressed me
— Hassan Odunayo Ruth (@ruth_odunayo) September 11, 2019

@Brilafm889#onitsha. Joe Aribo is the missing link we are looking for, his ability to carry the ball from deep even under pressure and beat the man pressing him to create space for himself is the reason for the quick transitions which was missing in afcon.
— RAPHAEL AzUBUIKE UCHEAGWU (@RUcheagwu) September 11, 2019

The way new faces breaks through the ranks of Super Eagles portends great future for our game if they sink in like kid on the block, Aribo, box to box midfielder, will come good for team.Well done Rohr!
— Alao Olukunle Joseph (@AlaoOlukunleJo2) September 11, 2019

Aribo joined Rangers on a free from Charlton Athletic during the summer, and he has already established himself as a key player under Steven Gerrard, featuring in 12 appearances across all competitions for the Scottish Premiership giants thus far.
He has shown he has what it takes to become the best in his position in Scotland, and it will be interesting to see how he fares going forward.
Rangers fans will hope Aribo can help them beat Celtic to the title this term, and Nigerians will surely be more attracted to the league now because of him.

Newcastle believe they know why Miguel Almiron's self-belief is suffering

Newcastle believe they know why Miguel Almiron's self-belief is suffering – originally posted on

According to The Athletic, there is an acceptance at Newcastle United that Miguel Almiron’s self-belief is suffering due to his drought in front of goal.
Since arriving at Saint James Park from Atlanta FC for a then club-record fee of £21 million in January, the Paraguay international has yet to score or register an assist for the Magpies.
Almiron ended the 2018 MLS season with 13 league goals and 11 assists, and it’s perfectly understandable if the Newcastle midfielder is worried about his lack of input in the final third.
The South American playmaker was in impressive form during the Copa America in the summer, assisting twice in four games, and he also scored in the 4-2 friendly win over Jordan on Tuesday, so clearly he still knows how to be productive in the final third.
Without a doubt, the 25-year-old will eventually open his goalscoring and assisting accounts for Newcastle, but the earlier he does, the better for his morale.
With just 13 starts Premier League starts to his name, Almiron’s drought shouldn’t necessarily worry him, and manager Steve Bruce has decided that he should press defences where possible and give the center-forward greater support going forward.
Newcastle travel to the dreaded Anfield to face Liverpool on Saturday, and while they have a very tiny chance of leaving with a point, the players will fancy the possibility of causing an upset after doing so against Tottenham Hotspur, and it could just be the game where Almiron finds the back of the net for the first time.

Liam Cooper reacts on Twitter after penning new Leeds United deal

Liam Cooper reacts on Twitter after penning new Leeds United deal – originally posted on

Leeds United skipper Liam Cooper has put pen to paper for a new five-year deal at Elland Road running until the summer of 2024, and it comes as a huge boost for manager Marcelo Bielsa.
Midfielder Kalvin Phillips signed a new contract last week, while Stuart Dallas agreed fresh terms alongside Cooper today, and it is good to see Leeds handing some of their best players new deals.
Since arriving at Elland Road in 2014 from Chesterfield, the centre-back has made 165 appearances for the Whites in all competitions, and will now hope to lead them to Premier League promotion this season.
A delighted Cooper has taken to Twitter to react to his new deal thus:

A very proud day for me and my Family. The hard work continues to achieve the ultimate goal. Thank you @LUFC @MLSMUK #ALAW
— Liam Cooper 💙💛 (@LiamCooper__) September 11, 2019

The Leeds defender first wore the Leeds armband in an FA Cup clash against Sunderland in January 2015 and has since proven he has what it takes to lead the team.
Cooper made his debut for Scotland during the most recent international break after catching the eyes of the national team selectors after his impressive performances over the last 12 months, and he will now look to keep proving himself to both club and country going forward.

Celtic summer signing has made an honest admission which will definitely excite the fans

Celtic summer signing has made an honest admission which will definitely excite the fans – originally posted on

Celtic summer signing has stated that the Bhoys fans will now see the ‘real Boli Bolingoli’.
The left-back joined Neil Lennon’s side in the summer transfer window for a fee in the region of £3 million from Rapid Vienna.
There was already a big pressure on him as he was expected to fill the large boots left by Kieran Tierney who joined Arsenal this summer.
Bolingoli made a shaky start to his Hoops career but he produced a solid performance in the Old Firm derby against Glasgow Rangers.
The Belgian was dropped by Lennon in Celtic’s Champions League qualifying defeat to Cluj. He was short of confidence, and the player admitted that his body language was not right.
However, it seems he has regained his form and confidence following back to back impressive performances against AIK and Rangers within a space of three days.
The defender feels he is on the right track and is now getting the confidence back. Celtic fans will love his positive attitude and also the frankness with which he admitted his prior situation.
Celtic will face Hamilton next after the international break.
“I feel like I’m starting to be the real Boli on the pitch, the Boli that loves to play and run,” said Bolingoli as quoted by the Daily Record.
“That energy was missing a bit in the beginning and I feel like I’m getting it back and getting the confidence back.
“I can see that in how I’m playing now. When I looked back on the previous games I noticed my body language was not the same.
“I have to show my real qualities at home now. That’s another challenge for me but that’s going to be alright. I’m overcoming the challenges in front of me now and I’m feeling very mentally strong.”

Bruce names the Newcastle player who has been 'a big disappointment' for him

Bruce names the Newcastle player who has been 'a big disappointment' for him – originally posted on

Steve Bruce has admitted that he is concerned with the situation of Newcastle striker Dwight Gayle. He adds that Gayle has been a ‘big disappointment’ for him since he arrived at St James’ Park.
Newcastle had the option of selling Gayle, who was out on loan at West Bromwich Albion last season, this summer but Bruce kept faith in the 28-year-old.
The former Hull City boss spoke highly of Gayle when he joined Newcastle and did his best to keep hold of the player despite rumours of him leaving for £20 million.
However, Gayle has predictably dropped down the pecking order at the club, and hasn’t been able to justify his manager’s faith.
He has been out injured since the start of the season, and Bruce has now admitted that Gayle’s fitness remains a big concern for him.
Bruce said to the Northern Echo: “Dwight’s a big disappointment for me because I have now been here for six, seven weeks but this injury has not got any better – which is a big concern to all of us.”
Goalscoring is one department where Newcastle must improve this season. Big money signing Joelinton has impressed so far, but Bruce will be demanding goals from other forwards as well.
It won’t be easy for Gayle to get into the side straight away. He will have to compete with Andy Carroll and Yoshinori Muto, as both will be looking to cement their place in the side.

'He will be our legend, immortal monster': Some fans drool over 25-year-old int'l wanted by Spurs

'He will be our legend, immortal monster': Some fans drool over 25-year-old int'l wanted by Spurs – originally posted on

England won 5-3 against Kosovo last night and Tottenham fans had plenty to watch out for.
While Spurs fans have been watching Harry Kane in action, they may have also had their eyes on another striker – Vedat Muriqi.
Earlier this week reports from Turkey claimed that Spurs scouted the Fenerbahce striker during Kosovo’s 2-1 win over Czech Republic, where he scored.
The 25-year-old started against England and he impressed everyone, showing his quality at the St Mary’s Stadium.
He set up Valon Berisha’s opener. The striker could have easily scored the goal himself but he was unselfish enough to square up with his teammate for his goal.
While England replied strongly and scored five goals, fans were more impressed with Muriqi’s outstanding no-look cross to pick out Berisha for Kosovo’s second.
He scored from the penalty spot to make it 5-3 and ended the night with a goal and two assists.
Many football fans have taken to social networking site Twitter to express their reaction on Muriqui’s display. Here are some of the selected tweets:

He’s one of world’s best strikers
— Mr. Mühendis (@muhendisbey011) September 10, 2019

He will be our legend 🔥
— Emre T. (@kaardeess) September 10, 2019

He feeds on flesh in the mornings. He is stronger than HULK. He is not a human he is an IMMORTAL MONSTER. All europe gonna know him in a short time. Wait for him😁
— Sercan Carlos Da Silva Rocha (@SercanCarlos) September 10, 2019

Complate forward he have all things for goal
— Berke (@BerkeeYapici) September 10, 2019

What a player by the way.
— Jonathan Hill (@JontyHill14) September 10, 2019

Someone gotta pick up Vedat Muriqi, a real baller.
— Saeed (@ThatsWhatlSaeed) September 10, 2019

Daniel Levy is on the lookout for a back-up striker for Harry Kane, and it seems Muriqi could be an ideal addition for the north London club.

He has surely impressed the Spurs fans with his performance, and it remains to be seen whether the club make any concrete effort to sign him in January.

Newcastle players have noticed one thing about Joelinton since he scored against Tottenham

Newcastle players have noticed one thing about Joelinton since he scored against Tottenham – originally posted on

According to The Athletic, Newcastle United players have commented that Joelinton’s body language has visibly improved since he opened his account against Tottenham Hotspur last month.
The Magpies splashed £40 million on the Brazilian striker during the summer transfer window, making him their club-record signing as a result.
Replacing Salomon Rondon as Newcastle’s top man wasn’t going to be easy, and that he drew blank against Arsenal and Norwich City didn’t help either.
However, Joelinton displayed great composure to put the ball past Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, and he certainly won some fans over after helping Steve Bruce side secure their first win and points of the season.
Without a doubt, the goal has boosted the morale of the 23-year-old and he will fancy his chances of causing an upset against Liverpool come weekend.
The former Hoffenheim star scored 11 goals in 33 games across all competitions for the Bundesliga outfit last term but only managed eight league – the highest he has ever scored in a single campaign – and he will be looking to hitting double-digit this term.
Given that Newcastle often struggle to create plenty clear-cut goalscoring chances in a game, Joelinton can’t afford not being clinical enough, and how he fares in front of goal will have a huge say on the Toons’ Premier League campaign.

— Craig Burns (@BurnsyBoy90) September 10, 2019

Great cross for the winner pal👏
— Colin Stewart (@Colin_Stewart70) September 10, 2019

Croatia opened the scoring when Dinamo Zagreb striker Sandro Kulenovic headed in Nikola Moro’s cross from 12 yards out.
However, Scotland replied with less than 10 minutes left on the clock. Rangers youngster Glen Middleton picked up Connor McLennan inside the penalty box, and he made no mistake in restoring parity.
McCrorie produced a fantastic cross for McLennan and his close-range header found the back of the net earning a crucial victory for the visitors.
The 21-year-old is a versatile young talent. He can play in defensive midfield as well in central defence. Steven Gerrard praised him highly before but he felt McCrorie is still very raw and needs to polish his game.
Obviously, he has a long-term future at Rangers, and the Ibrox fans will hope that he improves a lot during his loan spell at Portsmouth.

Sky Sports pundit makes prediction on Celtic player who has really impressed him

Sky Sports pundit makes prediction on Celtic player who has really impressed him – originally posted on

Former Scotland international and now a popular football pundit, James McFadden has showered praise on Ryan Christie, predicting he will have a big season for the Bhoys.
The 24-year-old started against Belgium, a game they lost 4-0 at Hampden Park, and he was one of the few players who really emerged with any credit from the match.
The Sky Sports pundit has showered heaps of praise on the midfielder saying he has got everything to be a success at Celtic. McFadden is also impressed with Christie’s work-rate, insisting that despite playing so high up the pitch, he constantly tracks back.
“His work rate, his drive, his determination to be a success at Celtic…there was talk of him going out on loan in the transfer window last season and it never happened, then he burst onto the scene for Celtic,” he said, as quoted by Football Scotland.
“He can see a pass, he is always on for a ball, he demands the ball, he flies into tackles, he’s got so much to his game, he’s got everything in his game for me.
“The most impressive thing for me is his work rate, because at one point he’s in the box, he’s trying to score a goal, they lose the ball, he’s the first one to track back.
He looks faster, he looks fitter, stronger, I think he’s going to have a really big season for Celtic, which can only benefit Scotland.”
Indeed, Christie has emerged as a key player for Neil Lennon’s side. At one point it felt like he would leave the club as he was struggling to get games under Brendan Rodgers.
However, he worked hard and forced his way into the team, and since then never looked back. He has started the season brilliantly scoring eight goals in all competitions already.
He is arguably one of the best players in the team at the moment, and if he can continue his form throughout the campaign, Celtic can expect yet another great season.

Report: Gareth Southgate is tracking Newcastle duo after their impressive starts

Report: Gareth Southgate is tracking Newcastle duo after their impressive starts – originally posted on

According to The Athletic, Newcastle United midfielders Sean Longstaff and Isaac Hayden are being tracked by England boss Gareth Southgate.
The 21-year-old caught his eyes after briefly becoming a key part of erstwhile manager Rafa Benitez’s starting XI last term before an injury ruled him out of the season.
Longstaff featured in 11 games across all competitions after breaking into the team during the second half of the campaign, but a knee injury ruled him out of action in March.
While he is yet to reach full fitness and is still being carefully managed by the Newcastle medical team, the youngster has continued to impress, playing in all four league games thus far.
That Hayden is also on Southgate’s radar shouldn’t come as a surprise given how much the Toon midfielder has significantly improved in recent months.
The 24-year-old was linked with exits in January and during the summer due to family reasons, but has since remained at Newcastle and is now vital to manager Steve Bruce’s plans.
The former Arsenal man has featured in every minute of the Magpies’ Premier League campaign this term, and is now beginning to slowly fulfill the huge potential he showed a few seasons ago.
The Newcastle midfield duo definitely has what it takes to play for England, but they have to keep putting in impressive performances on a consistent basis to have a chance of convincing Southgate of their qualities and earning call-ups.
