Report: 10-time Ligue 1 winners plotting audacious January move for Morelos

Report: 10-time Ligue 1 winners plotting audacious January move for Morelos – originally posted on
According to French outlet le10sport, Ligue 1 side Saint-Etienne are keen on Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos and could attempt to make a move for him in January.
The 10-time league winners are looking to boost their attacking ranks in order to also qualify for Europe at the end this term after finishing fourth last season.
Saint-Etienne have sent scouts to run the rule over the Rangers star in the Europa League and will continue to do so in the coming months.
Morelos has been one of the Gers best players this term, scoring eight Scottish Premiership goals in 11 appearances and 10 in the Europa League (including qualifiers).
With manager Steven Gerrard looking to beat Celtic to the title and domestic cups, it’s impossible to see him letting go of his prized striker halfway through the campaign.
Besides, Saint-Etienne aren’t big enough to tempt Morelos in January or next summer, but they are reportedly ready to sell Lois Diony and Robert Beric in order to boost their transfer coffers and chances of sealing the move.
The 23-year-old is also on the radar of the likes of Aston Villa and is expected to keep attracting more suitors going forward.
The Rangers hitman scored 18 league goals last term to win the golden boot and is already repeating his goalscoring heroics this term.
The Ibrox outfit and Morelos will definitely be tempted with juicy offers in January, and it will be interesting to see how they react.

Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish reacts to Marcus Rashford’s freekick against Chelsea

Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish reacts to Marcus Rashford’s freekick against Chelsea – originally posted on
Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish has taken to Twitter to shower praise on Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford following his sublime free-kick against Chelsea last night.
The Red Devils booked their place in the quarter-finals of the League Cup after a 2-1 victory against Chelsea, and the England international was responsible for both goals.
Rashford opened the scoring from the penalty spot after Marcos Alonso fouled Daniel James 25 minutes into the game, and while the Blues drew level through Michy Batshuayi in the second half, United had the last laugh, with the English striker channelling his inner Cristiano Ronaldo to grab the winner.
The technique with which Rashford executed his free-kick has got a lot of football fans talking, and here is how Villa skipper Grealish reacted to it:

I think this is the best free kick I’ve ever seen.
— Jack Grealish (@JackGrealish1) October 31, 2019

Villa booked their spot in the last-eight of the competition with a 2-1 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers last night, and Liverpool now stand between them and a spot in the semi-finals.
Grealish was unavailable for selection for the clash due to a knock, but is in contention to play against the Reds when they come to Villa Park on Saturday.

Rejuvenated Romelu Lukaku energizing Inter Milan’s charge for the Serie A title

Rejuvenated Romelu Lukaku energizing Inter Milan’s charge for the Serie A title – originally posted on
Ever since he made a club-record move from Manchester United to Inter Milan, the spotlight has firmly been quipped on Romelu Lukaku. Rather than succumbing to the pressure, the Belgian is thriving under it.
Lukaku’s taken to life in the Serie A like a fish to water. Even before arriving, he made his feelings clear on his “dreams” of playing in the Italian top flight. Antonio Conte was desperate to link up with him and the Nerazzurri made both their wishes come true.
Now they’re reaping the boons of this excellent union. With seven goals in his first ten games in Serie A, Lukaku doesn’t seem to have shed even a tiny bit of his goal-scoring phenomenon.
After being sidelined at Manchester United, he’s thriving under a more direct system which benefits him at Inter. The Nerazzurri have taken to Conte’s tactics amazingly well, perhaps even better than Juventus have with Mauricio Sarri’s philosophy.
Having formed a sturdy partnership with Argentine striker Lautaro Martinez, Lukaku is doing what’s asked of him brilliantly. He whisked away from his “big-game failure” reputation with a strike against AC Milan in the derby, while his stunning strike against Brescia recently reaffirmed his class.
Inter have the third-best defensive record in the league, which is somewhat guaranteed in the compact system of Conte. New-signing Diego Godin’s acting like a natural leader in defence, whisking away danger with finesse.
Stefan De Vrij has also come his own in an expressive role, keeping striker’s quiet and forming a stout partnership with the more aggressive Milan Skriniar.
To make sure Lukaku is fed well in the final third, wing-backs Antonio Candreva and Kwadoah Asamoah are pulling double-shifts. The former is especially menacing with his movement and excellent crossing ability handing inviting balls on the plate.
Stefano Sensi’a also proved an excellent acquisition for the Nerazzurri, using his pit-bull mentality and creative genius to dictate games for them.
Experienced customer Marcelo Brozovic is also acting like their midfield general forcing them forward with great vigour. To top off the cake, Martinez and Lukaku are scoring goals, mirroring each other’s movement brilliantly while also linking moves pretty well.
With all due respect to Lukaku’s goal-scoring brilliant, Martinez has evolved this season. He’s finding the right space to move into, bullying defenders and even dropping deep to create chances for his side. The Argentine hitman’s scoring crucial goals at the right moments, inspiring Inter to keep their title challenge on.
The only stumbling block for the Nerazzurri in the title race is their squad is nowhere near as packed as Juventus. The Bianconeri have world-class options on the bench and even in reserves, while the same can’t be said about Inter.
What they do have is a world-class strike-force with two hungry strikers winning them points week in, week out. With Juventus seeming vulnerable adapting to Sarriball and the Nerazzurri only a point behind, Inter’s consistency could take them far forward in the race for the Scudetto.

'You'd start the bidding at £25m': Celtic boss gives his verdict on 32-cap int'l winger

'You'd start the bidding at £25m': Celtic boss gives his verdict on 32-cap int'l winger – originally posted on
Celtic boss Neil Lennon has showered praise on winger James Forrest, saying he is ‘priceless’ for the club.
The 28-year-old scored yesterday as Celtic defeated St Mirren 2-0 in the Scottish Premiership clash.
Mohamed Elyounoussi, signed on loan from Premier League club Southampton in the summer transfer window, scored the opening goal for the Bhoys nine minutes after the break.
Forrest marked his new four-year deal with a brilliant performance as well. Lennon thinks the 32-times capped Scotland winger is now worth around £25million after signing his new contract with the club.
The in-form Celtic winger signed a new deal on Wednesday that will keep him at Parkhead until 2023.
Lennon has hailed the impact made by Forrest, and said that he’s not for sale after signing that new deal. At 28, Forrest is playing his best football at Celtic, and Lennon feels that there’s more to come from him.
“We gave him a new deal and I don’t care how much money we pay…he’s priceless to me,” said Lennon, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.
“What would he cost? You’d start the bidding at £25m. That’s what I would ask for anyway. But he’s not going anywhere – we’ve got him secure and he’s happy.
“I’m sure there has been interest in him but James has never wanted to leave. To have him his pleasing and that will settle him down and hopefully he will continue with his consistency.”
Forrest has played throughout his life at Celtic and has made it very clear that he has no intention of leaving the club any time soon.
In any case, Lennon has made it clear that any potential buyer will have to pay a premium price to lure Forrest away from Celtic Park.

Report: Newcastle's decision following club-record move left Dwight Gayle bruised

Report: Newcastle's decision following club-record move left Dwight Gayle bruised – originally posted on
According to The Athletic, out-of-favour Newcastle United striker Dwight Gayle was left bruised by the club’s decision to award his No 9 shirt to summer signing Joelinton.
The 29-year-old spent last season on loan at English Championship side West Bromwich Albion, with Salomon Rondon moving the other way.
The Venezuelan wore the No 9 jersey last term but left for China at the end of the campaign after the club failed to make his move permanent.
Newcastle brought in Joelinton as his replacement, making the Brazilian their record-signing following the £40 million move.
The Magpies’ new No 9 has struggled to hit the ground running in the English top-flight, though, scoring just once and registering only six shots on target so far, and there are suggestions head coach Steve Bruce is now contemplating whether he can remove him from the XI or at least shift him to the left in the coming weeks.
With just six goals in 10 league games, Newcastle need to start scoring more to boost their chances of survival, and Gayle could now be called upon with the Brazilian struggling.
Andy Carroll continues to struggle with fitness, while Yoshinori Muto remains out of favour, and having established himself as a proven goalscorer in the Championship, Bruce might have no choice than to give the 29-year-old a chance.

'Let’s arrange a crowdfunding page': Some Spurs fans react to latest transfer rumour they've heard

'Let’s arrange a crowdfunding page': Some Spurs fans react to latest transfer rumour they've heard – originally posted on
According to reports from Calciomercato (h/t ESPN Live blog), Italian giants AC Milan are monitoring Tottenham Hotspur full-back Serge Aurier.
Aurier was heavily linked with a move away from Spurs during the summer transfer window, but he ended up staying at the club.
AC Milan are keeping a close eye on him and could make a move during the January transfer window.
Tottenham fans have taken to social networking site Twitter to express their reaction after the news broke out. Here are some of the selected tweets:

It’s beyond me how some of these players get on the gravy train. The guy is absolutely useless and top teams pay big money for him and pay him a big salary. I just don’t get it!
— Steve Freeman (@Steve_Devon58) October 30, 2019

Sadly Milan are 13th. Not giants anymore and have little to no money. I doubt Levy will let Aurier leave for anything less than 15-20 & I don’t see Milan paying that + their CEO recently revealed they will most likely be signing up & coming players.
— AMS (@alimuhdshahid) October 30, 2019

He has all the athleticism to play in that are, but his decision making & timing means he’s a liability. Klopp had to make that decision with Alberto Moreno, so Poch really needs to phase him out.
— Dyllun Vadher (@IttoReborn) October 30, 2019

Can we start a “crowd fund” page to pay his air fare?
— John Wardell (@oldjdub) October 30, 2019

Have they got an opening as head pot wash in the kitchen? He’d be ideal
— Jono (@JonoTHFC1882) October 30, 2019

Let’s arrange a crowdfunding page to pay for his airfare
— Paul Jones (@1976Pauljones76) October 30, 2019

Aurier has been highly frustrating this season with his performances. He is the club’s first-choice full-back at the moment, but his form has been hugely disappointing.
The 26-year-old has started in five Premier League games and has one assist to his name. He also grabbed one assist in the Champions League for Spurs.
However, Aurier has already picked up one red card in the Premier League already (against Southampton), and his recent performance against Liverpool at Anfield was really poor.
It remains to be seen whether AC Milan come up with a presentable offer for him in January. He could be sold in the next transfer window, provided Spurs find a good replacement.

Report claims Silva doesn't view versatile defender as part of Everton first-team picture

Report claims Silva doesn't view versatile defender as part of Everton first-team picture – originally posted on
According to The Athletic, Everton manager Marco Silva does not view Lewis Gibson as part of his first-team picture this season, and would like to recruit another centre-back in January.
The Toffees currently have the trio of Yerry Mina, Michael Keane and Mason Holgate as their senior central defenders, but they wanted a fourth in the summer, with moves for Kurt Zouma, Fikayo Tomori and Marcos Rojo falling through.
While Gibson is highly-rated at Everton and did feature prominently during the pre-season, the fact that he can’t make the League Cup squads speaks volume.
Silva has fielded strong XIs and named his first-team players in the squads in the cup competition thus far and is expected to do so when the F.A Cup starts as Everton are eyeing going far in both.
Gibson, 19, is reportedly being eyed by Bundesliga giants, Newcastle United and Rangers, and with his current deal at Goodison Park running out at the end of the season, what the future holds for him remains to be seen.
The England youth international can also play at left-back, but his versatility hasn’t boosted his first-team chances either and he has had to keep featuring for David Unsworth’s U23 side, with whom he won both the Premier League 2 and Premier League Cup last term.

"Terrific loyalty to Celtic" – Chris Sutton reacts to what 28y/o did against St. Mirren

"Terrific loyalty to Celtic" – Chris Sutton reacts to what 28y/o did against St. Mirren – originally posted on
Celtic maintained their lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership with a 2-0 victory against St. Mirren last night, with second-half goals from Mohamed Elyounoussi and James Forrest handing Neil Lennon’s side their ninth win of the campaign.
It was a very frustrating opening 45 minutes for the Hoops as they struck the woodwork twice and also had a header cleared off the line.
However, two quick-fire goals after play resumed ensured they remain on top, although only a goal now separate them from Rangers after Steven Gerrard’s men secured a 4-0 victory at Ross County.
Forrest penned a new four-year deal yesterday, and having seen a near-post drive tipped on to a post in the first-half, the 28-year-old wasn’t to be denied his 10th goal of the season, cutting on to his left foot to drive his shot through a pile of bodies into the goal.
Celtic legend Chris Sutton was delighted with the effort, especially after it came on such a day, and here is how he reacted on Twitter:

Timely James Forrest scoring tonight… Terrific loyalty to Celtic
— Chris Sutton (@chris_sutton73) October 30, 2019

The Celtic winger has reached double figures for the third consecutive season, and he proved his worth again by putting in a man-of-the-match performance against St. Mirren.

Gary Lineker has perfect reaction to Liverpool's League Cup victory against Arsenal

Gary Lineker has perfect reaction to Liverpool's League Cup victory against Arsenal – originally posted on
Liverpool booked their place in the quarter-finals of the League Cup at the expense of Arsenal following a pulsating clash at Anfield that ended 5-5.
Daniel Ceballos’ miss during the penalties ensured the hosts got the victory in the end despite being two goals down at two separate points in the game.
Shkodran Mustafi’s own goal from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s cross while under pressure from Rhian Brewster put Liverpool in the lead six minutes into the game, but Arsenal fought back, with goals from Lucas Torreira and Gabriel Martinelli putting them 3-1 up 30 minutes later.
James Milner made it 3-2 from the spot heading into the break, but Ainsley Maitland-Niles restored Arsenal’s two-goal cushion nine minutes after play resumed.
Things got more interesting as Liverpool fought back, with goals from Chamberlain and Divock Origi drawing them level.
Joseph Willock’s 70th-minute strike appeared to have won the game for Unai Emery’s men, only for Origi to pop up with a goal in the 94th minute.
It was a thrilling contest without a doubt, and Reds goalie Caoimhin Kelleher emerged the hero at the end, saving Ceballos’ spotkick to send his side through to the last-8.
Liverpool will be hoping to get an easy opponent when the draws are made as it will boost their chances of making it to the semis.
Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker enjoyed the game, and here is how he reacted to it on Twitter:

Liverpool don’t lose at Anfield. Helluva game.

Report from medical expert reveals how long Bernard could be out for

Report from medical expert reveals how long Bernard could be out for – originally posted on
Everton were dealt a massive injury blow during their 3-2 loss to Brighton at the weekend, with Brazilian winger Bernard getting withdrawn in the 30th minute following a knock.
Subsequent scans have shown that the 27-year-old sustained a grade 2 medial ligament injury on his right knee, and while the club has vowed to get him back in action as soon as possible, it could take a little while.
According to The Athletic, a medical expert has revealed that it could take between three to six weeks for the injury to heal, and adding the number of days it could take him to attain full fitness afterwards, Bernard could be spending quite some time on the sidelines.
The Toffees forward has proven crucial to manager Marco Silva’s most recent playing style – which has seen him deploy the Brazilian and Alex Iwobi as two number 10s, with the former coming in regularly from his position on the left to create a numerical advantage.
Bernard’s being on the left of Everton’s attack helped the team become more fluid in the final third, with Iwobi playing freely behind the striker.
His absence meant Silva had to play Richarlison in the position during last night’s League Cup win against Watford, and it will be interesting to see if he will stick with the decision going forward.
