Report: Real Madrid offered Jose Mourinho £12 million not to join Tottenham Hotspur

Report: Real Madrid offered Jose Mourinho £12 million not to join Tottenham Hotspur – originally posted on Sportslens.com
According to The Sun, Spanish giants Real Madrid were ready to offer Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho £12 million not to take another job  prior to his move to North London.
The La Liga side wanted the Portuguese to just  wait for Zinedine  Zidane  to  leave, but he had his heart set on the Tottenham job as far as October 21 when a key meeting took place in London.
Mourinho had to cancel other appointments at short notice in order to talk to super-agent Pini Zahavi, and he left the meeting convinced he was the leading candidate to take over at Spurs once Mauricio Pochettino was axed.
With that in mind, Mourinho was prepared to reject Madrid and other suitors, and he was appointed to succeed the Argentine – who was sacked on Tuesday evening (19th November) – on Wednesday morning.
Borussia Dortmund, AC Milan and Lyon were all keen on his services, while Chinese Super League giants Guangzhou Evergrande were willing to go as far as offering him £40 million a year after tax – way more than the £15million-a-year he will earn at Spurs.
Tottenham’s underwhelming start to 2019-20 – which saw them pick up just 14 points after 12 games – saw chairman Daniel Levy accelerate efforts to identify a potential replacement, although he had been harbouring doubts about Pochettino since the build-up to the Champions League final.
Mourinho has hit the ground running at Spurs, winning all the three games he has overseen, and only six points currently separate them from fourth-place Chelsea.

Report claims West Ham are keen on 23-yr-old Tottenham target

Report claims West Ham are keen on 23-yr-old Tottenham target – originally posted on Sportslens.com
West Ham have been linked with a move for Sofyan Amrabat.
The Verona midfielder is in fine form right now and he has attracted the interest of other European clubs with his performances.
As per Italian reports (translated by Sportwitness), Tottenham are keen on the 23-year-old as well.
Amrabat is on loan from Brugge and Verona have an option to sign him permanently. If they do not take up that option, West Ham might move for the player.
The Hammers could certainly use a versatile midfielder like him in their ranks. Amrabat can play as a defensive midfielder, a full back or a wide player.
It will be interesting to see where he ends up eventually.
If the Hammers are truly interested in him, they should make their move in January.
If Amrabat continues to impress, the bigger clubs will come in for him in summer. West Ham might be priced out of a move then.
Also, if a club like Tottenham comes in for him, the player is more likely to snub West Ham and join them.

PL manager points out Spurs manager Jose Mourinho's 'remarkable' quality

PL manager points out Spurs manager Jose Mourinho's 'remarkable' quality – originally posted on Sportslens.com
Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe has lavished praise on Tottenham’s Jose Mourinho.
The Portuguese took charge of Tottenham recently and Howe believes that the most incredible quality of the former United manager is his ability to make his team win.
Speaking to Sky Sports News, he said: “It’s his ability to make his team win, how he has done that at nearly every club he has been at is remarkable.
“And even with teams that haven’t necessarily always been favourites, at Porto and Inter Milan there were times in games when their backs were up against the wall and that is where he operates best.”
Mourinho has done well at Spurs so far and the Londoners have shown instant improvement. So far, they are on a winning run under their new manager and it will be interesting to see how they perform in the coming weeks.
Spurs will want to finish in the Champions league places this season and they are just six points off Chelsea now. The Blues are in the fourth place.
Mourinho has managed to cut down some of the gap between the two sides already and he will be looking to overtake his former side by the end of the season.
The Portuguese is won trophies with every club he has managed and Howe’s comments about him are not surprising at all.
It is evident that the Bournemouth manager admires Mourinho and the Spurs boss has certainly earned that respect over the years.

Opinion: Aston Villa should sign £25m Rangers man to strengthen key area

Opinion: Aston Villa should sign £25m Rangers man to strengthen key area – originally posted on Sportslens.com
Wesley is struggling to adapt at Aston Villa after joining from Club Brugge over the summer and could be replaced in the January transfer window. The Villans are unlikely to offload Wesley so soon after signing him, but they could look to add competition in attack.
Alfredo Morelos is one of many strikers on their shortlist, having scored 24 goals in 27 games in all competitions this season, but he won’t come cheap. Wayne Veysey of the Football Insider revealed earlier in November that Rangers are asking for £25m for Morelos, so Villa may have to break their transfer record for the second time in six months.
Wesley isn’t cutting it so far. The 23-year-old has scored just four goals in 13 appearances and hasn’t netted in his last five games. He’s been reduced to one or less shots in three of his last four league outings too. The Brazilian international has also created just two chances in five games, so it’s clear he’s not having much an impact.
Keinan Davis is meant to be backup for Wesley, but he’s racked up only 296 minutes of playing time and hasn’t found the back of the net in the league. Morelos would be a significant upgrade on Villa’s current attacking options, but it’s unknown if they’ll make an official approach.

Report claims Tottenham are close to agreeing an extension with midfielder

Report claims Tottenham are close to agreeing an extension with midfielder – originally posted on Sportslens.com
Tottenham are close to agreeing on a new deal with Jamie Bowden.
The highly rated youngster is in advanced talks with the London club and an agreement is close according to Football Insider.
Apparently, it could be a three-and-a-half-year extension which will keep Bowden at the club until 2023.
As per Daily Mail, the deal has already been agreed.
The 18-year-old has been a star for Spurs’ youth teams and it is no surprise that the Premier League outfit want to hold on to him.
Bowden has a big future ahead of him and he has all the tools to succeed at the highest level. He could follow in the footsteps of Harry Winks and become a valuable first team player in the coming seasons.
It will be interesting to see how he develops in the next few years. It would be tough for him to break into the first team right now, especially with Dier, Winks, Sissoko, Ndombele, Wanyama and Skipp ahead of him in the pecking order.
Perhaps a loan move would be ideal for him once his contract is sorted with Spurs.
Both parties would benefit from a productive loan spell.

Explained: Aston Villa and Crystal Palace will have to pay £20m to sign 21-year-old

Explained: Aston Villa and Crystal Palace will have to pay £20m to sign 21-year-old – originally posted on Sportslens.com
Aston Villa and Crystal Palace are looking to strengthen their attack in the January transfer window and could butt horns over Odsonne Edouard. The 21-year-old has been outstanding for Celtic this season and could be on the move for the right price.
According to Toby Miles of the Mail Online, Villa and Palace will have to pay around £20m to procure Edouard’s signature. The centre-forward joined Celtic from Paris Saint-Germain in 2018 and has contributed 70 goals in 106 games in all competitions. He’s bagged nine goals in 12 Premiership games this season too.
Edouard could certainly improve the Villa squad, as Wesley has struggled to adapt to the Premier League since his summer move from Club Brugge. The 23-year-old is without a goal in his last five league appearances and only has four to his name in 13 games this season.
With Keinan Davis racking up a paltry 296 minutes of football, Villa need another striker in the squad. The same goes for Palace, with Christian Benteke failing to score in 11 league appearances. Conor Wickham has amassed only 78 minutes of football due to injury and Jordan Ayew has netted only twice since August.
Edouard would be perfect at either club, but whether Villa or Palace lodge an acceptable bid in January remains to be seen.

Report confirms European giants' meeting with Spurs star's agent

Report confirms European giants' meeting with Spurs star's agent – originally posted on Sportslens.com
Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen’s agent has met with Serie A giants Inter Milan.
According to reports from Italy (translated by Sportwitness), the Danish playmaker’s representative met with Inter about a month ago but nothing has come of it so far.
Apparently, Eriksen has a preference for Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain. Therefore, Inter Milan have not held further talks with the player’s agent.
It will be interesting to see where the midfielder ends up come the end of the season.
He will be a free agent and he hasn’t agreed to sign an extension with Tottenham yet.
Having said that, Jose Mourinho has now taken over from Mauricio Pochettino and he might be able to convince the player to continue at Spurs.
Mourinho is a proven winner and his charisma might just convince Eriksen to stay beyond this season.
The Danish star is a world class player on his day and losing him would be a quite a blow for Spurs, especially on a free transfer.
The 27-year-old is entering the prime years of his career and he will want to win trophies now. If Mourinho can convince him that Spurs is the right place for him to reach his goals, it would be quite an achievement.

'We love him' – Jose Mourinho drools over selfless Tottenham ace

'We love him' – Jose Mourinho drools over selfless Tottenham ace – originally posted on Sportslens.com
Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho has heaped praise on Eric Dier.
The versatile midfielder has been involved in the starting lineup since Mourinho’s arrival and the Portuguese revealed that he loves the player.
Speaking to Football London, Mourinho said: “He’s a good player, an intelligent guy, loves Tottenham, we love him. As I was saying, it’s a decision for the team. It was a decision the team needs at the time and he’s one of the guys who easily understands that meaning. For him, the team is everything and you find sometimes in football some players when they are more important than the team. It’s about them, them, them and when they remember there is a team. Eric is not that. Eric is about team, team, team.”
Dier lost his starting berth under Pochettino but he seems to have gained Mourinho’s trust and he will be delighted with these comments from the manager.
The England international can play in a variety of roles and he will be looking to do the best for the team and the manager. He will want to repay Jose’ faith in him.
Dier can operate as a full back, a centre back and a central midfielder. His versatility could be an asset for Mourinho in the coming weeks.
It will be interesting to see how Dier does in the coming weeks. If he manages to regain his form and confidence, he will certainly improve the Londoners quite a lot.
Spurs will be eyeing a top four finish and they will need players like Dier in top form in order to achieve that.

Opinion: West Ham should sign £22k-per-week Newcastle man to replace 33-year-old

Opinion: West Ham should sign £22k-per-week Newcastle man to replace 33-year-old – originally posted on Sportslens.com
Carlos Sanchez is out of contract next summer and looks unlikely to be handed an extension by West Ham United after falling down the pecking order. The 33-year-old will need replacing at the end of the season, but the Hammers could look to strengthen their midfield in January due to their dwindling numbers.
United have Sanchez, Declan Rice, Jack Wilshere and Mark Noble at their disposal, but Sanchez and Wilshere have amassed only 217 minutes of Premier League football this season. One player on their radar was Isaac Hayden, but they failed to procure his signature from Newcastle last summer.
West Ham should consider returning in January, however, as he would be a brilliant addition to the squad. The £22k-per-week midfielder is a regular on Tyneside, having made 12 appearances in all competitions and making one assist.
As per WhoScored, Hayden has won 18 aerial duels (72%), made 16 clearances, averaged 26.4 passes-per-game with 78.6% accuracy, made 10 successful dribbles (59%) and averaged a tackle (32) or interception (18) every 19 minutes. He’s a significant upgrade on Sanchez but may cost in excess of £20m to sign.
With West Ham sitting 13th in the Premier League with 16 points from 14 games, having picked up just one win from their last eight, they desperately need fresh blood.

Opinion: Aston Villa must do everything to sign 22-yr-old who is turning heads in the PL

Opinion: Aston Villa must do everything to sign 22-yr-old who is turning heads in the PL – originally posted on Sportslens.com
Aston Villa should look to sign Emiliano Buendia from Norwich City.
The highly talented attacking midfielder has surprised everyone in the Premier League with his ability and he would be a superb addition to Aston Villa’s midfield.
If Jack Grealish decides to move on in future, Buendia would be an excellent replacement. The Norwich City star can create as well as score goals. His technical ability will add a new dimension to Villa’s attacking play.
The 22-year-old Argentine can play as the number ten or a winger. He will give Dean Smith some tactical flexibility as well.
It will be interesting to see if Aston Villa make their move for Buendia in January or in the summer. Norwich might not want to sell a key star halfway through the season.
Villa have the resources to pull off the move and they should do everything in their power to make it happen.
A player of Buendia’s calibre would totally transform them and help reach the next level.
The 22-year-old is far from his peak and he will only get better with time. This would be the ideal time to snap him up.
