Report: Spurs eye ambitious move for £55m star with five league titles…but there's a catch

Report: Spurs eye ambitious move for £55m star with five league titles…but there's a catch – originally posted on Sportslens.com
According to reports from The Independent, Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho is planning an ‘ambitious swoop’ for Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani.
Tottenham are badly in need of a striker this month after Jose Mourinho confirmed today that Harry Kane could be out of action for the rest of the season.
Spurs have been linked with a host of strikers in the past two weeks, and the latest name that is doing the rounds is that of Cavani.

The 32-year-old striker joined PSG from Napoli in 2013 for a reported fee of £55 million. The Uruguayan striker has scored 198 goals in 291 games in all competitions for PSG, and enjoyed a trophy-laden career with the French giants, winning five Ligue 1 titles.
The former Palermo striker is out of contract in the summer with Atletico Madrid the favourites to sign him.
There have been interests from the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea, but Spurs are also in the race to sign him. However, Cavani’s wage package would be far too high, while he may not want to play as a second-choice striker behind Kane.
It will be an ambitious move if Spurs make an attempt to sign him. Cavani is the right profile of player the north London club should be aiming at. Despite his age, Cavani can still be a handy option for any top European club, but Spurs are reportedly considering other options as well.

Everton in pole position to sign defensive talent, looking to get the deal done this week

Everton in pole position to sign defensive talent, looking to get the deal done this week – originally posted on Sportslens.com
Everton are interested in signing the Carlisle defender Jarrad Branthwaite.
According to Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke, the Toffees are looking to sign the player this week and they will submit an offer for him.
Apparently, Everton had a bid rejected for him and they will come back with an improved offer. Their opening offer was around £500,000 and Carlisle are holding out for a fee of around £1m plus add-ons.
It will be interesting to see if the two clubs can agree on a deal this month.
Branthwaite is a talented young player and a move to Everton would be superb for his career. The Toffees are very good at nurturing young talents.
If he manages to fulfill his potential at Everton, they will have a future star on their hands.
The deal makes sense for both parties and it should get done if the interest is genuine.
Carlisle are holding out for a premium but they will be forced to sell eventually if the player demands a move. Also, Everton have the means to pay the asking price so there shouldn’t be any complications.
The report adds that Branthwaite is being monitored by the likes of Celtic, Rangers, Newcastle, Aston Villa and Leicester as well. However, Carlo Ancelotti’s side are in pole position to complete the transfer.

Report: 21-yr-old expected to join Celtic, deal has been 'closed in principle'

Report: 21-yr-old expected to join Celtic, deal has been 'closed in principle' – originally posted on Sportslens.com
Celtic are all set to sign the Ivorian midfielder Ismaila Soro.
We covered reports earlier that the Scottish giants are interested in the central midfielder.
Now Daily Record are claiming that a deal has been agreed in principle.
Bnei Yehuda’s manager Elisha Levy has confirmed that the 21-year-old player will move to Celtic. He also revealed that the club is already looking for replacements for Soro.
He said: “Ismailia Soro’s transfer deal to Celtic has been closed in principle and he is expected to leave in the near future. When I took this job I knew he was going, so this isn’t a surprise to me. It just means we will have to look for reinforcements in his position. Of course it will be difficult because Soro is an excellent player.”
It will be interesting to see how he does in Scotland once the transfer is formalized.
The Bnei Yehuda star will add some composure and defensive steel to the side. He is very good at breaking up the play and marking the opposition out of the game.
Soro is excellent at driving forward as well and he will add a new dimension to Celtic’s midfield.
If he manages to adapt to the Scottish league, he could be the long term replacement for Scott Brown. The Celtic hero is past his peak and he will need to be phased out soon.
Soro has the talent to grow into a star for Celtic and the Scottish club are excellent at nurturing young talents as well.

'He is unbelievable, definitely a beast' – Newcastle player in awe of Wolves attacker

'He is unbelievable, definitely a beast' – Newcastle player in awe of Wolves attacker – originally posted on Sportslens.com
Wolves were held to a 1-1 draw against Newcastle in the Premier League on Saturday.
Newcastle defender Jetro Willems has now lavished praise on the in-form Wolves winger Adama Traore.
Speaking to the media, the Dutch international revealed that it was a tough afternoon for him against Traore and the Wolves ace is the fastest player in the world.
Willems also added that he has played against Cristiano Ronaldo in the past but Traore is probably harder to mark than the five-time Ballon d’Or winner.
He said: “He is unbelievable, definitely a beast. Not only is he incredibly fast, he is so, so strong as well. He’s known as the fastest man in football, and now I know that is true. I have played against Ronaldo who is fast, but not that fast. Of course, he is so skillful but sometimes that is easier than being up against someone with such incredible pace. I played against Ronaldo in the Euros when Netherlands played Portugal. But that (against Traore) is as tough an afternoon as I have had, even though I thought I did quite well.”
Wolves were struggling towards the start of the season but their season has turned around now, largely due to Traore’s upturn in form.
The speedster has been in outstanding form for Nuno’s side and he has helped his team win some big games, like the one against Manchester City.
The 23-year-old Spaniard has 5 goals to his name this season and it will be interesting to see if he can keep up this level of performance in the coming weeks as well.
Wolves are currently 7th in the table and they will be hoping to qualify for the Europa League. In order for that to happen, players like Traore and Jimenez will have to be at their best for the remainder of this season.

Reliable journalist confirms 23-yr-old is keen on Leeds transfer, club ready to let him go

Reliable journalist confirms 23-yr-old is keen on Leeds transfer, club ready to let him go – originally posted on Sportslens.com
Leeds United have been linked with a move for Che Adams this month.
According to The Athletic‘s Phil Hay, the Southampton player is keen on a move to Marcelo Bielsa’s side and the club are prepared to let him leave now. However, Hasenhuttl will need some convincing.
As per the report, Leeds will have to pay a loan fee of £1m and they will have an obligation to buy the player at the end of this season.
It will be interesting to see if the Whites sign Adams in the coming days. They could certainly do with some attacking depth right now.
Nketiah returned to Arsenal earlier this month and Leeds are left with Bamford as their only recognised striker.
With Danny Ings taking the centre stage at Southampton, Adams might need to leave the club in order to continue his development. A move to Leeds would be ideal for him as well.
Bielsa could groom the 23-year-old into a quality forward.
For £1m, he could prove to be a good addition in the short term. It will be interesting to see what happens about the obligation to buy.
If the price is reasonable, Leeds should do everything in their power to sign him.
They are fighting to win the Championship this year and they will need strength in depth. Bielsa cannot afford to take any risks right now.
Last year, the lack of attacking options cost them dearly in their pursuit of promotion.

Report: £56m-rated player completes Tottenham medical ahead of January move

Report: £56m-rated player completes Tottenham medical ahead of January move – originally posted on Sportslens.com
Tottenham are all set to announce the signing of Benfica midfielder Gedson Fernandes.
According to Sky Sports, the player has already completed his medical with the London giants.
The player will join on an 18-month loan deal and Spurs will have the option to sign him permanently for a fee of around £56m in future.
It will be interesting to see how he performs in the Premier League now. Gedson was linked with a move to West Ham United as well.
Mourinho needs some January reinforcements and Gedson Fernandes could prove to be a handy option.
The 21-year-old attacking midfielder will add creativity to the side. He is also very hardworking and that will improve Spurs defensively as well.
The likes of Eriksen haven’t been at their best this season and Spurs needed some competition in the attacking midfield department.
Gedson Fernandes will now push Eriksen for a starting berth and that could help the Danish international improve.
Currently, Kane is ruled out with a long term injury and Spurs are using Son and Moura as their forwards. That has resulted in a lack of creativity in the midfield.
Alli and Eriksen could do with some help and Gedson could be the one to share that creative burden.

Popular pundit claims Aston Villa star is 'better' than Champions League winner

Popular pundit claims Aston Villa star is 'better' than Champions League winner – originally posted on Sportslens.com
Aston Villa star Jack Grealish has been in fine form this season.
The young midfielder has taken to the Premier League like a duck to water and the step-up hasn’t affected his performances at all.
Grealish has been instrumental to Villa’s impressive performances this season and he could be the key to their survival as well.
BeIN Sports pundit Andy Gray has lavished praise on the Aston Villa midfielder.
The popular pundit thinks that Grealish will leave the club for a huge fee in the summer and he is better than the likes of Keita, Wijnaldum, Foden and Mount.
He said: “He’s better than Keita, better than Wijnaldum, much better than Foden. He’d walk into Spurs’ side. Right now he’s better than Mason Mount.”
There is no doubt that Grealish is a top-class talent and he might develop into a Premier League star with time. But Gray’s comparison with Keita and Wijnaldum makes no sense.
The Liverpool duo aren’t attacking midfielders and they play a completely different role to that of Grealish. Furthermore, Wijnaldum was crucial to Liverpool’s Champions League win last year.
As far as Foden and Mount are concerned, there is a genuine case.
It will be interesting to see if Grealish can improve on his performances so far and carry Villa to safety this season.
He was linked with a move away from Villa at the start of the season and therefore a potential transfer next summer might be on the cards as well. It will be interesting to see where he ends up eventually.
If Villa go down, a move should certainly happen. Grealish is way too good for the Championship.

Tottenham want 22-yr-old Chelsea target, club officials scouted him recently

Tottenham want 22-yr-old Chelsea target, club officials scouted him recently – originally posted on Sportslens.com
Tottenham are thought to be keen on signing the Roma midfielder Amadou Diawara.
According to a report from TMW (translated by Sportwitness), Chelsea are keen on the player as well.
Both clubs want to sign the midfielder at the end of this season and they recently sent scouts to watch the player in action as well.
Diawara is highly rated in Italy and he has a big future ahead of him. It is hardly surprising to see the big clubs taking an interest in him.
Both London clubs could use a powerful midfielder like the Guinean and it will be interesting to see where he ends up.
The 22-year-old can play as a central midfielder or a defensive midfielder. He is very good with his passing and he will add composure to Spurs/Chelsea’s midfield. Furthermore, Diawara is a good dribbler and he can carry the ball forward.
The Roma midfielder is impressive at reading the play and intercepting passes as well.
The Serie A side are under no pressure to sell Diawara and therefore his suitors will have to pay a premium if they want to sign him.
Diawara has a contract with the Italian club until 2024.
Both Chelsea and Spurs have the financial resources to pull off the signing. They can also offer him higher wages than the Italian club.
A move to the Premier League might be tempting for the midfielder and it will be interesting to see which club he joins if the two London rivals come calling.

'Best forward we have been linked with so far' – Some Villa fans are keen on 31-yr-old

'Best forward we have been linked with so far' – Some Villa fans are keen on 31-yr-old – originally posted on Sportslens.com
Aston Villa have been linked with a move for Islam Slimani.
The Leicester City striker is currently on loan at Monaco and he has impressed in the French league.
As per L’Equipe (report translated by GFFN) Aston Villa are in desperate need of a goalscorer and they are looking to bring him in.
Wesley has been ruled out of the season with an injury and Slimani could prove to be a decent alternative.
He has scored 6 goals in 12 games this season. Slimani has picked up 7 assists in the league as well.
Dean Smith’s side are fighting for survival right now and they cannot afford to take risks right now. They need a proven goalscorer if they want to stay up this season.
Slimani is a player in form right now and he could make a big difference upfront.
Aston Villa are struggling with injury problems and key players like McGinn, Heaton and Wesley are sidelined. They are heavily reliant on Jack Grealish right now.
The Villa star needs some help and Slimani’s arrival would be ideal. The 31-year-old can link up with the Aston Villa playmaker and add a new dimension to Smith’s attack.
It will be interesting to see if they can get the deal done this month.
Some of the Aston Villa fans have taken to Twitter to share their thoughts on the report. Here are some of the tweets from earlier.

seen him a lot this year and he’s much better than his time at Leicester suggests. However, he’s best with 2 up front like now with Ben Yedder. Not your old-school goal scorer, likes to get involved with the ball, think Benzema (not saying he’s that good, but that’s his style)

'Just get it done', 'Closest thing to Salah' – Some Wolves fans react to links with 17-goal star

'Just get it done', 'Closest thing to Salah' – Some Wolves fans react to links with 17-goal star – originally posted on Sportslens.com
Wolves are thought to be keen on Hull City’s Jarrod Bowen.
According to The Athletic, they admire the Championship winger who will cost around £20m this month.
It will be interesting to see if the Premier League side are willing to pay up for the 23-year-old attacker.
Bowen has scored 17 goals this season and he would be a superb addition to Wolves’ attack. Nuno’s side needs some attacking reinforcements and they have been linked with Hwang Hee-Chan as well.
Wolves have drawn games that they should be winning and someone like Bowen could make a big difference. He will add creativity and goals to the side.
Hull City might not want to sell their key player this month but they will be powerless if Wolves come in with a good offer.
Furthermore, convincing the player shouldn’t be too difficult either. He will want to make the step up to the Premier League sooner rather than later and Wolves have an ambitious project.
The transfer makes sense for both parties and Wolves should just pay up and get it done.
They are a good team right now and with the right attacking reinforcements, they could become a very good side and secure European football for next season.
Here is what their fans think of the news.

I mentioned this guy a few weeks ago. 50 goals by the age of 22 is a great return even at championship level for an attacking midfielder
— Singhwhenyourewinning (@pedalsingh) January 12, 2020

Great signing. Been saying for months. I rate him above Dan James. Saw him at Hereford. He’s from West Midlands, Leominster. Blossomed into a great player. I don’t say this lightly but is closest thing to Salah you could buy. Get it done. Glad Tim Reporting it too.
— Matt Pav (@ThePav85) January 12, 2020

Pleased to see us considering the domestic market. Our summer ‘18 signings settled well because they got a lot of football. Harder to break in now, as we’ve seen. So having a guy who knows the country and the pace of football perhaps the best chance of impact in January.
