'I'm responsible', 'I'm getting proved wrong' – Gerrard reacts to Rangers defeat

'I'm responsible', 'I'm getting proved wrong' – Gerrard reacts to Rangers defeat – originally posted on Sportslens.com
Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has shared his thoughts on the 2-1 defeat against Kilmarnock from last night.
The Ibrox outfit fell further behind Celtic in the title race after a poor second-half showing and it will be interesting to see if they can make amends in the coming weeks.
Celtic are now 10 points clear at the top of the table. However, Rangers have a game in hand.
Gerrard seemed very disappointed with the result and the performance after the game. The Rangers boss blamed himself for the result.
He revealed that he is the one who put the squad together and he is responsible for this situation. Gerrard added that Rangers were weak mentally and that cost them against Kilmarnock.
Speaking to the media after the game, he said (quotes via Daily Record): “I’m very disappointed at the moment but I’m responsible for it. The board have given me incredible backing to go and put this squad together, I’ve got a lot of belief and faith in these players, but that second-half performance tonight alarmed me – and it’s not the first time since we’ve returned from the winter break. I’m going to have to do some real analysing of individuals and where we are. I thought we had the mentality and the characters to sustain a push, but on the evidence of the last four or five weeks I’m getting proved wrong. Having said that it’s me as well, because I’m responsible for that group of players.”
The Ibrox outfit were fragile at the back and they should have defended better.
They will need a massive stroke of luck to get back into the title race now. Celtic have a significant lead at the top and they are in sensational form as well.
It will be interesting to see how Rangers approach their remaining games now.

Bielsa confirms Leeds ace will play on Saturday, some fans react: 'His stubbornness is going to cost us'

Bielsa confirms Leeds ace will play on Saturday, some fans react: 'His stubbornness is going to cost us' – originally posted on Sportslens.com
Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa has confirmed that Kiko Casilla will play against Bristol City.
The under-fire Spaniard has made a few key errors this season and he ended up costing Leeds United valuable points.

Bielsa on whether he will make changes against Bristol City, Casilla especially: “Casilla is going to play. And Bamford as well.” #lufc
— Phil Hay (@PhilHay_) February 13, 2020

Leeds were leading the Championship at one stage and they are six points behind leaders WBA in second place now.
Some of the fans aren’t too happy with his performances and it will be interesting to see if Casilla manages to win them over in the next few weeks.
It is evident that Bielsa rates that Spaniard highly and he is loyal to his players. However, Leeds will have to be careful at this stage of the season.
If it ends up costing Leeds their promotion, Bielsa’s decision could come back to haunt him at the end of this season.
Speaking to the media before the game, Marcelo Bielsa confirmed that Patrick Bamford will play for the Whites against Bristol City as well.
Leeds United are in terrible form right now and they need to improve a lot. They have won just 2 of their last 12 games in all competitions.
Although Casilla is not solely responsible for that run, he certainly seems like a weak link in the side right now.
It will be interesting to see if Bielsa can turn this around and secure promotion for his side.

Not a good message to send out really is it…constantly under perform but don’t worry you won’t be dropped.

Heads gone.
— Joe Catling (@JoeCatling19) February 13, 2020

I know he feels like he is being loyal to Kiko, but he isn’t helping him, it puts a lot on him. I’m starting to feel bad for him because he is not intentionally out to make mistakes. Just needs a break from the firing line. After Arsenal, he should had a couple games out.
— Jay Sharked (@JaySharked) February 13, 2020

Stubborness always gets more intense when put under pressure. Support for Kiko is unconditional. For all Bielsa’s talent, this is his biggest weakness, faith over reason.

His stubbornness is going to cost us…

'I'm embarrassed','Very disappointing' – 28-yr-old Rangers star reacts to 2-1 defeat

'I'm embarrassed','Very disappointing' – 28-yr-old Rangers star reacts to 2-1 defeat – originally posted on Sportslens.com
Rangers slipped to a 2-1 defeat against Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premiership last night.
Club captain James Tavernier shared his thoughts on the performance after the game. The 28-year-old full-back believes it was an embarrassing display.
He added that Rangers defended poorly and conceded goals they should be preventing.
Tavernier said (quotes via Daily Record): “I’m embarrassed with the performance we put in the second half. It’s happened a few times now where the other team are starting to get the upper hand and the crowd is getting behind them and we’re just not dealing with it. It’s worrying. I’ve been with this team long enough to know we’ve been in situations and we’ve handled it but not tonight and it’s very disappointing to let all the fans see that tonight. We’re trying to go all the way to the end and compete for this title but tonight we didn’t see the hunger enough to see off the game. We’ve been conceding bad goals, it’s as simple as that. We know we’re going to create chances. We missed opportunities tonight but at the end of the day, us as a team need to keep the ball out of the back of the net.”
Rangers were under pressure to win the game and the defeat will come as a huge blow to their title hopes.
Celtic are now ten points clear at the top of the table and it seems like Rangers will need a miracle to bridge that gap between now and the end of the season.
Rangers have a game in hand but the gap is considerable and Celtic are in red hot form right now.
Inconsistency has been a major problem for Steven Gerrard’s side this season and unless they find a solution, they will struggle to push Celtic for the title.
Rangers have the quality to beat any side in the country on their day. However, they will have to improve their mentality and add consistency to their game.
It will be interesting to see how Rangers bounce back from this defeat now. Steven Gerrard will demand a big reaction in the next game.

Opinion: JKA must work harder to become Leeds first-choice following training ground revelation

Opinion: JKA must work harder to become Leeds first-choice following training ground revelation – originally posted on Sportslens.com
Leeds United snapped up RB Leipzig striker Jean-Kevin Augustin on loan till the end of the season in January, and he finally made his bow during weekend’s loss at Nottingham Forest.
He also featured briefly during Tuesday’s 1-1 draw at Brentford, and will now hope to make an impact as Leeds look to return to winning ways when Bristol City come visiting on Saturday.
Patrick Bamford remains boss Marcelo Bielsa’s first-choice striker, and it will be interesting to see if Augustin can pip him to the starting berth anytime soon.
Going by a recent training ground revelation from Kalvin Phillips, though, the Frenchman doesn’t have a chance of leading the line for Leeds right now.
“He’s a big lad. He’s strong, he’s fast. Obviously, he’s a different player to Pat and now we just need to try to get his fitness up there and get him pressing as well as Pat does,” the midfielder told BBC Radio Leeds when asked what he has noticed about him in training.
Bielsa has spent a large chunk of his last two press conferences explaining that Augustin is yet to get up to speed with how Leeds play, partly due to his lack of fitness after playing very little at AS Monaco.
Bamford isn’t the most prolific striker out there, but he knows exactly what the Argentine wants from his target man and continues to follow it to a tee.
His ability to press opposition defenders relentlessly, coupled with his unrivalled work rate sets him apart, and the new boy has to learn quickly.
Arsenal’s Eddie Nketiah struggled to understand what Bielsa wanted from him, leading to his limited playing chances at Elland Road during the first-half of the campaign, and Augustin has to put in more hard work if he doesn’t want to end up like him.

He needs to get fully fit as soon as possible, and if he can take his chances by scoring regularly and also become very effective off-the-ball, the starting berth would be his.

'Break the bank', 'Get him' – Some Spurs fans are excited about reported 21-yr-old target

'Break the bank', 'Get him' – Some Spurs fans are excited about reported 21-yr-old target – originally posted on Sportslens.com
Tottenham are thought to be keen on signing the Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano.
According to a report from Bild (translated by Sun), the player has interest from Spurs and Arsenal.
Furthermore, the youngster dreams of a move to the Premier League.
It will be interesting to see if the Londoners make a move for Upamecano in the summer. Both clubs could use a top-quality defender in their lineups.
Earlier this week, there were reports of Mourinho scouting the player himself.
Jose Mourinho will be hoping to rebuild his defence in the summer and Upamecano would be an ideal addition. He has the potential to develop into a world-class player.
With Vertonghen expected to leave and Alderweireld in his 30s, Spurs need to bring in a long term partner for Sanchez.
As per the report, the 21-year-old will be available for a fee of around £50m at the end of this season because of a release clause in his deal.
In today’s market that seems like a good price to pay for a player with such high potential.
Tottenham have the resources to pull this off. They also have a world-class manager in charge who will be able to convince someone like Upamecano.
It will be interesting to see where the Frenchman ends up eventually.

He’s been class this season. Motm vs Bayern Munich

15 goals and 15 assists this season: Man Utd favourites to sign midfielder in summer – originally posted on Sportslens.com
Manchester United are looking to sign Jadon Sancho this summer.
According to Mirror, the player has decided to snub other clubs in order to join the Red Devils.
Chelsea are keen on the player as well and Sancho could cost around £120m as per the Mirror.
Sancho is thought to be keen on a return to the Premier League and Manchester United are now firm favourites to land him.
Sancho is one of the most talented young players around Europe right now and it will be interesting to see if Manchester United manage to sign him. He has 15 goals and 15 assists to his name this season.
Several top teams will be interested in him and United will have to work hard to get him in.
The Red Devils might not be able to offer him Champions League football next year unless they improve drastically and finish the season strongly. That could affect their chances of getting him to Old Trafford.
However, Mirror believe that United are readying a huge £200,000-a-week plus contract for the former Manchester City winger in order to tempt him.
He will improve them immensely and will add pace, flair and goals to the side.
United need a bit of unpredictability in their attack and Sancho will provide just that for them. He could form a lethal front three alongside Rashford and Martial.

The 23-year-old is in fantastic form right now and it is no surprise that the Reds are keen on signing him.
Werner would be a terrific addition to Liverpool’s attack. Liverpool are likely to lose the likes of Mane and Salah because of AFCON at certain stages of the next season and they will need a quality alternative.
It will be interesting to see if they can secure an agreement with RB Leipzig. They have a good relationship with the German club and the two clubs have worked together on the Naby Keita transfer previously.
The report from Sportbild claims that Werner is likely to cost around €55-60m.
Liverpool did not make any major signings this season and they could be set for a big summer. They certainly have the resources to pull off the signing of Werner for the reported price.

Celtic went 10 points clear of Rangers at the top of the Scottish Premiership table following last night’s 5-0 victory against Hearts, massively boosting their chances of winning a ninth straight league title.
While the Hoops strolled to a comfortable victory at Parkhead, Steven Gerrard’s men struggled against Kilmarnock at Rugby Park, losing 2-1 despite leading for 77 minutes.
Celtic boss Neil Lennon got wind of the result and couldn’t help but troll Rangers, signalling 2-1 – the scoreline – to the stands from the dugout as the Parkhead crowd celebrated Killie’s win.
While they have played one more game than the Light Blues, the Hoops will fancy their title chances as a result of the huge 10-point lead they now hold with just 12 games left in the season.
Celtic have won all their six league games since that Boxing Day defeat at the hands of Rangers, and are looking unstoppable as their title rivals continue to stutter.

Gerrard’s side have lost twice and drawn once since that victory that threatened the Hoops’ title bid, and catching up with Lennon’s flying men looks just impossible at this point.

Chris Sutton tears into Rangers duo following Kilmarnock loss

Chris Sutton tears into Rangers duo following Kilmarnock loss – originally posted on Sportslens.com
Rangers have found themselves 10 points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership table following last night’s 2-1 defeat at Kilmarnock.
It’s the Light Blues’ third league loss of the campaign, and it could end up proving costly after the Hoops secured a 5-0 win against Hearts.
Rangers went into the break 1-0 up following Scott Arfield’s great strike 32 minutes into the game, but they conceded twice in the final 13 minutes of the clash.
Two defeats and a draw since Premiership action resumed after the winter break have seen Steven Gerrard’s men lose ground in the title race, and Celtic legend Chris Sutton singled out Ianis Hagi and Ryan Kent for criticism following their latest loss.
“Hagi, a lot of talk about him but he didn’t turn up tonight. I’ll keep going back to Ryan Kent,” Sutton said on BT Sports (via The Scottish Sun).
“As a loan player he was superb in a Rangers jersey. You pay £7million you want that game changer, you want that difference maker – have we seen enough of that? The big players haven’t turned up after the break for Rangers, that’s the difference.
“Honestly, I didn’t see it this season. I bought into what happened at Celtic Park because it was such an assured performance. Celtic were lucky in the cup final. But they have come back and they have bottled it so far.”
While Hagi put in an impressive shift against Hibernian a week ago to announce himself to the fans since arriving at Ibrox last month, the Romanian was missing against Killie.

Kent particularly struggled and is yet to hit the ground running since league action resumed despite scoring in the loss to Hearts.
The winter break appears to have done more harm than good to Rangers’ stars as they have struggled to gather momentum, and it’s safe to say it has effectively cost them the chance of stopping Celtic from winning a ninth consecutive title.
