'Simply down to the players': 28-yr-old thinks Rangers stars have let down Gerrard

'Simply down to the players': 28-yr-old thinks Rangers stars have let down Gerrard – originally posted on Sportslens.com
Rangers ace James Tavernier believes that the players have let down Steven Gerrard this season.
The 28-year-old revealed that the players haven’t managed to deal with the pressure properly and they will have to do better.
The Ibrox outfit crashed to a defeat against Kilmarnock in their last outing and it seems that they are going to miss out on the league title once again.
He said (quotes via Daily Record): “It happened last year. It’s really hard to swallow that we are doing this. I know every one of the boys is disappointed as we let the club and the fans down. That’s the worst part of it. I know the gaffer takes a lot of the heat, but each one of us has to take the heat. He’s taken the brunt for us all season, but this one is simply down to the players. Every single one of us needs to look at ourselves. He [Gerrard] has improved everything since he’s come in the door. He’s improved the squad and talent-wise we know we are a better team [than Kilmarnock], but it’s how we apply ourselves and how we handle the pressure. Simply enough, we didn’t handle the pressure at Kilmarnock.”
Celtic are ten points clear at the top and they are in scintillating form right now.
Rangers will struggle to catch up unless Celtic collapse in the remaining months of the season.
The Ibrox outfit have shown that they have the quality to win the title but their inconsistency and weak mentality have cost them.
Gerrard has improved the side a lot since his arrival but the players need to improve their mentality to sustain a title challenge.
It will be interesting to see how Rangers perform in the coming weeks.
The players will know that defeats like the one against Kilmarnock are simply unacceptable. The fans will demand a reaction from the players as well.
Similar results damaged Rangers’ title hopes last year and Tavernier is disappointed with a repeat of such performances this year.

‘Wow!’, ‘Unbelievable’ – some fans can’t believe what has happened to Manchester City tonight

‘Wow!’, ‘Unbelievable’ – some fans can’t believe what has happened to Manchester City tonight – originally posted on Sportslens.com
Manchester City have been banned from the Champions League for two seasons by UEFA, the governing body confirmed.
The Sky Blues have been accused of committing ‘serious breaches of the UEFA Club Licensing and Financial Fair Play Regulations by overstating its sponsorship revenue’ between 2012 and 2016.
City also failed to co-operate when probed by the independent Adjudicatory Chamber of the Club Financial Control Body. Pep Guardiola’s side will be banned from the Champions League in 2020/21 & 2021/22 and have a fine of £25m to pay.

What a season for Manchester City. Unbelievable.
— Matt (@FalseFMatt) February 14, 2020

If this actually plays out over the full two years, city will be in serious trouble.

@shahidb @Huk06 this is huge
— Gohar Shah (@gohar_shah) February 14, 2020

City do have the right to appeal, but it remains to be seen if they’re successful. The fact they failed to cooperate with the investigation suggests they may not evidence to disprove the accusations levelled at them by UEFA.
It’s not the first time they’ve fallen foul of UEFA’s financial regulations and been sanctioned either. Back in 2014, the Sky Blues were fined £49m and given a transfer cap after falling foul of Financial Fair Play regulations.
If this latest charge is upheld, it could lead to an exodus at Man City. Pep Guardiola pursuit of winning the Champions League will rest on this season alone while many players may not want to stay without having top European football.

Report: Steve Bruce wants a new deal for under-performing Newcastle player

Report: Steve Bruce wants a new deal for under-performing Newcastle player – originally posted on Sportslens.com
Newcastle manager Steve Bruce is keen on a new deal for Andy Carroll.
The former England international signed a short term contract with the Magpies in summer and he will be a free agent at the end of this season.
As per Northern Echo, Bruce wants to keep the striker at the club. He will urge Lee Charnley to open talks with Carroll regarding a new deal. Apparently, he is impressed with the striker’s contributions on and off the pitch.
Carroll hasn’t quite managed to impress this season. He is yet to score this season and he hasn’t played too often either.
Injuries have limited his game time at Newcastle United this season. It will be interesting to see if he manages to finish the season strongly and win over his critics.
The 31-year-old has struggled to hit his best form for a while now. His career has gone downhill ever since he joined Liverpool almost a decade ago.
With Joelinton struggling to hit his best form at Newcastle, Carroll might get the opportunity to prove his worth yet.
As per the report from Northern Echo, finances will play a big part in Carroll’s potential renewal. He agreed to a pay-as-you-play deal when he rejoined the club in the summer and he might have to settle for a similar deal once again.

Former Aston Villa star sends out a transfer message to Jack Grealish

Former Aston Villa star sends out a transfer message to Jack Grealish – originally posted on Sportslens.com
Former Aston Villa star Joleon Lescott has sent out a transfer warning to Jack Grealish.
The Aston Villa midfielder has been linked with Manchester United in the recent weeks but Lescott believes that the 24-year-old should snub a move to Old Trafford at the end of this season.
There is no guarantee that United will play in the Champions League next season. Solskjaer’s men have been very inconsistent so far.
The former Villa star believes that Grealish should aim to join a club playing at the highest level.
He said (quotes via Evening Standard): “When you look at the spectrum of teams, Manchester United are still a big club. But in terms of Jack Grealish’s ability, if he leaves Aston Villa he’s going to want to play Champions League and that’s not guaranteed at Man United, even in the future. I would love to see him test himself at the highest level because I think he’s capable of playing at real heights. He’s proven that he can really perform in a team that’s been struggling this season. In terms of if he was going to move to United, it would obviously be a great move for him because it’s Man United. But in terms of how he can test himself against the very best, is he going to be able to do that at Man United as they’re not guaranteed Champions League football?”.
It will be interesting to see what happens in the summer.
Grealish has been in fine form for Aston Villa this season. He has shown that he has the quality to play for a Champions League club.
The 24-year-old has nine goals and seven assists for Villa this season.
He will be hoping to guide his boyhood club to safety this season but in summer, he might just be tempted to move on.
At this stage of his career, he needs to make the step up and take up bigger challenges. A move to a top-four club would allow him to progress and improve as a player.

Fabrizio Romano: Man Utd winger 'seriously considering' £48k-per-week offer to join Euro giants

Fabrizio Romano: Man Utd winger 'seriously considering' £48k-per-week offer to join Euro giants – originally posted on Sportslens.com
According to Fabrizio Romano of The Guardian, Manchester United winger Tahith Chong is likely to be heading out of Old Trafford in the summer transfer window.
The 20-year-old is ‘seriously considering an offer’ to join Inter Milan. The Italian giants have offered him a deal worth €3m a year, which equates to around £48,000 a week, till 2025.
The young winger’s contract at United is due to expire in June and the Nerazzurri are pushing hard to sign him.

Chong joined United from Dutch club Feyenoord in 2018, and has done well so far. He has made eight appearances for the Red Devils this season including two substitute appearances in the Premier League.
He is unconvinced by the renewal offer from United. The player’s agent has held talks with Inter this month.
According to reports from Calciomercato, Chong has given ‘the go-ahead’ to enter the negotiation with Inter, and that the player is close to securing an agreement with the Italian club.
If the youngster makes the move to Inter, he will join the likes of Romelu Lukaku, Ashley Young and Alexis Sanchez – all have played for United.

Romano: Man Utd star 'convinced' move away from OT 'would be in everyone’s best interests'

Romano: Man Utd star 'convinced' move away from OT 'would be in everyone’s best interests' – originally posted on Sportslens.com
According to the Guardian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Paul Pogba wants to leave Manchester United in the summer transfer window.
The ever-reliable transfer expert claims that the 26-year-old French midfielder is ‘convinced’ that a move away from Old Trafford would be in ‘everyone’s best interests’.
The France World Cup winner has endured an injury-plagued 2019-20 campaign, managing only seven appearances for the Red Devils in the Premier League.
Pogba returned to Manchester United from Juventus in the summer of 2016 for a reported fee of £89 million which was a world-record transfer at that time.

United could be willing to offload him but they’re demanding a fee in the region of £83 million.
Juventus are highly interested in getting him back, while La Liga giants Real Madrid are equally keen. However, both the clubs feel that United’s asking price is too high for a player who hasn’t been at his best since joining the Red Devils.
Mino Raiola, Pogba’s agent has further added fuel to the fire by claiming that the midfielder could return to Italy. He said: “Pogba feels at home in Italy. Italy is like his second home or family, same for [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic. That’s why Paul would like to come back to Juventus.”
Pogba will have only one year remaining on his contract after this season, and it remains to be seen whether United lower their asking price for the midfielder.

Report suggests Sheffield United's transfer plans for in-demand 22 y/o PL player

Report suggests Sheffield United's transfer plans for in-demand 22 y/o PL player – originally posted on Sportslens.com
Manchester United owned-goalkeeper Dean Henderson has been simply outstanding for Sheffield United this season.
The 22-year-old, who joined the Blades on loan from United, has been simply superb, and it has a created a dilemma for the Red Devils.
According to reports from The Telegraph, heavyweight clubs including Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain are watching the 22-year-old’s development with close interest.

Dean Henderson and David de Gea have each made 65 saves in the Premier League this season, though De Gea has conceded nine more goals

Would United be making a mistake to sell Henderson in the summer? pic.twitter.com/GqKg2nvCKS
— WhoScored.com (@WhoScored) February 14, 2020

The exciting young goalkeeper has a contract at Old Trafford till 2022, and United have the option of extending his deal for another 12 months.
However, there’s a catch. Spanish goalkeeper David de Gea has signed a new four-year contract with United last September, and Sergio Romero has been his understudy. At this moment, it looks difficult for Henderson to break into the first-team at Old Trafford.

Henderson will not be willing to warm the bench after impressing heavily in the Premier League this season. It will hamper his progress.
Sheffield United will struggle to sign him permanently if Chelsea and PSG join the bidding war, but Chris Wilder’s side are looking to extend their loan deal with the keeper.
Henderson has made 25 appearances in the Premier League this season, and has kept eight clean sheets so far.
It remains to be seen how United approach the situation. Surely, they would be hesitant to sell their top young player to a rival club. However, the Red Devils may look to offload him to PSG if they cannot offer him regular game time.

'If we get the right deal': Fabrizio Romano's tweet has got many MUFC fans talking – originally posted on Sportslens.com
Many Manchester United fans appear to have become frustrated with the constant back and forth drama of Paul Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola.
The Super-agent has hinted (relayed by Fabrizio Romano) that Pogba would love to return to Juventus and that they would consider the situation after the end of Euro 2020.
Many United fans have taken to Twitter to express their reaction, and needless to say they are frustrated. There are some fans who even said that United should sell Pogba in the summer.

— Dyl (@UtdDyl) February 14, 2020

me – i can’t cope with pogba leaving. me again – he’s played 2 games in 5 months. me for the final time – ok sell him and sign grealish and sancho. but on a real, i want him to stay – want him to win trophies here, but not gonna happen under the fraud manager
— 𝔹𝕣𝕦𝕟𝕠 𝔽𝕖𝕣𝕟𝕒𝕟𝕕𝕖𝕤 𝕚𝕤 𝕒 𝔹𝕒𝕝𝕝𝕖𝕣 (@RoadT0Success) February 14, 2020

I’m a man u fan but United doesn’t deserve pogba. He needs to find a serious club to accomplish what he so desires because time and age isn’t on his side after wasting it at united.
— Bruno.Fernandes FC (@AkramAk7am) February 14, 2020

Raiola is nothing more than a …….a fat obese one at that. Pogba needs rid of him, as Raiola is only after a big payday off of Pogba's name
— Gaz (@gurnzy82) February 14, 2020

I love Pogba but there is no way he’s allowed to say that without Pogba’s permission.
— Benz (@BabyyBenzzzz) February 14, 2020

This guy just wants money and is using Pogba to get it, if we sell for anything less than £150 million we’ve been robbed.
— Nathan (@utdNathann) February 14, 2020

United re-signed Pogba in 2016 from Juventus by paying the-then world-record £89m transfer fee.
At the time of joining, Pogba said it was the right time for him to return to Old Trafford, having left United for Juventus for £1.5m in 2012.
The 26-year-old has struggled with injury problems this season, and has managed only seven Premier League appearances thus far.

Pogba has been frequently linked with a move away from Old Trafford, and his agent’s latest comment will further fuel those speculations.
The Frenchman is a world-class midfielder and United should demand a massive transfer fee for him in case they decide to offload him permanently.
There are even suggestions that United could think of a swap deal with Juventus midfielder Aaron Ramsey moving the other way.

Report: Spurs star wants Jose to regularly play him in his favourite position

Report: Spurs star wants Jose to regularly play him in his favourite position – originally posted on Sportslens.com
Tottenham Hotspur star Eric Dier has featured in 20 games across all competitions for the side this season, but it’s safe to say he’s not one of the first names on the team sheet.
The 26-year-old has a little more than a year left on his current contract and is not eager to put pen to paper on a new deal.
According to the Daily Mail, Dier wants to be assured that he will be a major player in boss Jose Mourinho’s first-team plans going forward before thinking of extending his stay at Tottenham.
The England international has also expressed a desire to play regularly at centre-back rather than holding midfield – a position that has long been associated with him at both club and country level.
While Dier can feature in both roles, a large chunk of the over 200 games he has played for the North London club has been in holding midfield, and it will be interesting to see if Jose will be keen to convert him to a centre-back on a permanent basis.
The Spurs star has featured twice in the position this term, but Davinson Sánchez and Toby Alderweireld remain the first-choice defensive pairing, while Jan Vertonghen provides cover.
New kid on the block Japhet Tanganga is also primarily a centre-back, but has featured prominently as a full-back since making his Premier League debut against Liverpool.

Dier is presently struggling for regular game time at Tottenham, and he can’t seem to break into the starting XI either as a holding midfielder or centre-back.
Could his days be numbered at the club?

'This is literally a lie': Many LUFC fans react to what Bielsa has just said

'This is literally a lie': Many LUFC fans react to what Bielsa has just said – originally posted on Sportslens.com
Leeds United will face Bristol City at Elland Road in their next Championship game on Saturday.
The Whites are on a poor run at the moment, having won just once in their last seven Championship games. Marcelo Bielsa’s side are without a win in their last three games, losing two of them.
The Yorkshire club are heading into this match on the back of a 1-1 draw against Brentford, and surely Leeds need to get back to winning ways if they’re serious about an automatic promotion.
Bielsa has received strong criticism from the Leeds fans about his team selection. The Argentine is often known for being stubborn, and his recent team selections (somewhat baffling as well) have caused an unrest among the Whites fans on social media.

Ahead of the match, Bielsa has revealed (as relayed by Phil Hay) why Ian Poveda hasn’t been in the squad recently.
Poveda, who joined Leeds from Manchester City during the January transfer window, hasn’t got enough opportunity to make an impact at his new club.
Bielsa has said that he prefers two defenders, two midfielders and two strikers in his squad, and many fans are not impressed. Here are some of the selected tweets:

We haven’t even got two strikers hahahahahahahahahahahaha
— Ashleigh (@ashlaurenn_) February 13, 2020

This is literally a lie.
— Chris Gawman (@CGawman) February 13, 2020

Two strikers, he’s a funny guy
— Craig Stewart (@craigstewart79) February 13, 2020

Just goes to prove what we all know It has been a shocking January transfer window for Leeds United
— nigel stanley (@nigelLUFC) February 13, 2020

What a load of bull that is. We’ve hardly ever had 2 strikers on the bench, sometimes none!
— Brighterbeat (@EastStandL29) February 13, 2020

Two strikers? He didn't even have one on the bench even when edmondson was fit
— Luke Fella (@luke_fella) February 13, 2020

so Stevens in ahead of poveda then yeah? Also had no strikers on bench for months
— Keegan Mallender (@kmallenderr) February 13, 2020

If there’s room for 2 midfielders then make him one of them! Bielsa sounds more and more ridiculous as the season goes
— Andy (@Bomlombardlufc) February 13, 2020

Leeds have struggled to score frequently in recent matches with Patrick Bamford failing to exude confidence in the side. New signing Jean Kevin-Augustin hasn’t played much with Bielsa stating that the 22-year-old is not yet ready to lead the line.
The Whites find themselves second in the table, but they share same points with third-placed Fulham and are just two points above both Brentford and Nottingham Forest.
