'What a player, Levy won’t buy': Some Spurs fans react to latest transfer update

Tottenham Hotspur fans have taken to social networking site Twitter to express their reaction to reports linking their club with a move for Sheffield United defender Jack O’Connell.
Spurs boss Jose Mourinho needs to bolster his defence and has earmarked O’Connell as a potential option.
According to reports from the Sunday People (19/1; page 49), the north London club are interested in signing the 25-year-old from Sheffield United in the January transfer window.
The centre-back has been in superb form for the Blades this season. He has made 23 appearances in the Premier League so far, and has produced some fantastic performances.
Spurs have enough depth in that area, and signing a centre-back should not be top of Mourinho’s priority list at the moment.
However, with Jan Vertonghen’s contract set to expire in the summer, and Juan Foyth likely to be offloaded on loan elsewhere, Mourinho probably wants another reliable centre-back who has Premier League experience.
Here are some of the best reactions from Spurs fans on Twitter:

Long term !! How long have we got and why sign potential replacements !
Sign your replaced right now proven to bring why they cost a big transfer fee QUICK SOS replacements let’s put some stitches in that after you die ??
— Kye Simpson (@KyeSimpson8) January 19, 2020

We are becoming the man United of transfer rumours !!
Contrast to the dippers and city – the first we know of their transfer activity is a picture of a player wearing the shirt
Why are such a pantomime when recruiting players ????
— Mark Fearnley (@markfearnley47) January 19, 2020

So far we’ve been linked with about a dozen CB’s. Why? Levy won’t buy.
— DAMIEN (@DamienDzanic) January 19, 2020

He’s a brilliant player I’d have him over someone untested in prem at the minute
— marius mccloskey (@MariusMariusmcc) January 19, 2020

I’m not saying he’s a bad defender but he would be valued at like £300m
— Jamie (@Jammydodger312) January 19, 2020

Just sign any Sheffield defender, they know what defense is for real
— William G florez (@willygflorez) January 19, 2020

what a player
— randy (@randy36910786) January 19, 2020

O’Connell has started every game for United this season and has been simply immense for the club. Only Liverpool and Leicester City boast a better defensive record than Sheffield who have conceded just 22 times in 23 fixtures.

'Really hope we get him': Some Spurs fans react to latest transfer rumour they've heard

Tottenham Hotspur fans have taken to social networking site Twitter to express their reaction to reports linking their club with a potential move for Jarrod Bowen in the January transfer window.
The 23-year-old has been enjoying a phenomenal campaign in the Championship for Hull City once again. Last season, he scored 22 goals in the league, and this season he has managed 16 goals already.
A host of Premier League clubs including Tottenham, Arsenal, Newcastle and Aston Villa are keeping tabs on the £20m-rated forward (h/t The Mirror (transfer live blog; 02:55)).

Championship rivals Leeds United are also keen but they want him on loan instead.
Here are some of the selected tweets from Spurs fans on Twitter:

Fantastic player, we should act fast. £25m
— Glyn (@Atomheart1972) January 19, 2020

Keeping tabs. That’s a new one. Usually we’re tracking, monitoring, preparing, considering, doing nothing.
— Anthony Heard (@AnthonyH7) January 19, 2020

I’ve seen the Championship, those clubs ain’t no joke. If he is top scorer than that means he has potential. I want Piatek since he is more proven. I just don’t want a Llorrente or some benchwarmer from Bolton.
— Tangangster (@MarceloFurlan5) January 20, 2020

I’ve been babbling about this signing for months but I bet this didn’t happen #THFC
— Helen Colley (@mrshullhopper) January 19, 2020

Yes, wouldn’t mind that signing. Much better than some of the dross we’ve been linked to lately
— Husty Hotspur (@Retro80sHusty) January 19, 2020

Not exactly the player we need, but I’d take him, given we address other areas as wel.
— soerenpaul (@Rundfunk_West) January 20, 2020

Sign him @SpursOfficial!!!
— Alejandro Giménez (@Alex7GL) January 19, 2020

Really really hope we get him

Spurs are in desperate need to sign a striker this month following the injury to Harry Kane. The England striker has undergone a hamstring surgery and could be out of action for the rest of the season.
Bowen is a versatile forward who can play as a striker, as a secondary striker, and also as a right-winger.
Newcastle United are reportedly preparing a bid to sign Bowen this month, and it remains to be seen whether Spurs make any concrete move to sign him as well.

Report: Spurs receive massive boost as £55m target has 'asked to leave' the club

Report: Spurs receive massive boost as £55m target has 'asked to leave' the club – originally posted on Sportslens.com
Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Leonardo has confirmed that star striker Edinson Cavani has asked to leave the club in the January transfer window.
The 32-year-old striker joined PSG from Napoli in 2013 for a reported fee of £55 million. The Uruguayan striker has scored 198 goals in 291 games in all competitions for PSG, and enjoyed a trophy-laden career with the French giants, winning five Ligue 1 titles.
However, the former Napoli striker is out of contract in the summer, and he is looking to leave the club this month. Cavani has scored five goals in 14 appearances in all competitions for PSG this season.
“Edinson Cavani has asked to leave,” said Leonard (h/t The Mirror).
“We are studying the situation. We had an offer from Atletico Madrid, we did not accept it. I don’t know how this is going to turn out.”

The news will come as a massive boost for Tottenham Hotspur who are reportedly interested in signing the 116-times capped Uruguayan international.
Earlier this month, The Independent reported that Spurs boss Jose Mourinho was planning an ‘ambitious swoop’ to sign the PSG striker. Cavani’s wage package would be far too high, and it remains to be seen whether Spurs make any concrete move for him in the next few days.
Spurs badly need to sign a striker this month following the injury to Harry Kane. The England striker has undergone a hamstring surgery and could be out of action for the rest of the season.

Explained: Everton man refusing to go, will make £1.2m staying, Ancelotti & Brands hatch plan

Explained: Everton man refusing to go, will make £1.2m staying, Ancelotti & Brands hatch plan – originally posted on Sportslens.com
Everton have a problem with Oumar Niasse. The 29-year-old has been made available for sale this month but is refusing to leave. Niasse has turned down loan moves to Leeds United and Nottingham Forest and may be sitting on his £55k-per-week/£2.86m-a-year contract until it expires in July.
Marcel Brands wants him gone and may have hatched a plan with Carlo Ancelotti to a move him on – handing the striker minutes on the pitch to help attract suitors. Niasse doesn’t want to play in the Championship, but he may be open to joining a top-flight side overseas and will need to put himself in the shop window as a result.
The Senegalese international has played so little football this season and hasn’t scored a goal since May 2018, so he’s unlikely to be inundated with suitors. Everton aren’t expected to get a penny back from the £16m spent in 2016, but they may settle for getting Niasse off the wage bill this month.
Should the striker stay at Goodison Park, he could make another £1.2m. There won’t be many clubs willing to match his salary at Everton, so Niasse may want to maximise his earnings by sitting on his contract before becoming a free agent.

'It’s half the battle' – Alan Shearer shares one thing Newcastle have under Bruce

'It’s half the battle' – Alan Shearer shares one thing Newcastle have under Bruce – originally posted on Sportslens.com
Newcastle United left it very late to grab their eighth Premier League victory of the campaign at Chelsea’s expense on Saturday.
Despite being the second-best team all game, the Magpies struck at the death to snatch a very vital win through Issac Hayden, and head coach Steve Bruce and his side surely deserve some credit now.
Despite their lack of squad depth at the moment due to injuries, Newcastle put in a top performance against Chelsea and Toons legend Alan Shearer believes Bruce can’t do more than he is currently doing, hailing Newcastle’s great team spirit under him.
“As for a Magpies revival, I don’t think Steve Bruce can do a lot more than he’s doing with what he’s got,” Shearer told The Sun.
“It’s not pretty at times – but what he has is great team spirit.

“He’s got players who care and who want to scrap and fight for him. If you’ve got that, it’s half the battle.”
Not many fans gave Bruce a chance when he succeeded Rafa Benitez, but it is safe to say the former Sunderland boss is doing just as much as the Spaniard did at Saint James’ Park.
Newcastle are a few wins from securing Premier League safety, but adding some quality players to the squad this month could see them push for a top-seven finish, with only four points between them and Sheffield United.
They already have an excellent team spirit with Bruce in charge, and making the squad better and stronger by making the necessary signings will definitely make this side a top-half-of-the-table team.

Report: Newcastle suffer blow in the race to sign 24-year-old int'l

Report: Newcastle suffer blow in the race to sign 24-year-old int'l – originally posted on Sportslens.com
According to reports from The Sun, Newcastle United are unlikely to be able to sign AC Milan striker Krzysztof Piatek in the January transfer window.
Tottenham Hotspur are also interested in signing the Polish international, but the north London giants are not willing to match Milan’s asking price, thought to be in the region of £35 million.
Newcastle United are reportedly willing to sign him outright, but it seems Piatek fancies a move to a club who are in Champions League contention.
The report claims that the 24-year-old wants to fight for his place at Milan rather than moving to a mid-table Premier League club.
Piatek has started in 14 Serie A games this season and has scored four goals only. The Serie A outfit are keen to cash in on him following Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s arrival.
The Magpies are looking to sign a striker this month to ease the burden on Joelinton who has failed to make a big impact since his £40 million move from Hoffenheim in the summer.

Report: Leeds eye move to sign in-demand midfielder this month…but there's a catch

Report: Leeds eye move to sign in-demand midfielder this month…but there's a catch – originally posted on Sportslens.com
According to reports from The Sun on Sunday (19/1; page 65), Leeds United are interested in signing West Bromwich Albion midfielder Rekeem Harper on loan.
Leeds United suffered back to back defeats after they lost against QPR on Saturday in the Championship and the Whites boss Marcelo Bielsa said after the game that it was their ‘worst moment in the Championship’.
The Argentine has insisted that he needs to bolster his squad this month following the departures of Eddie Nketiah and Jack Clarke. However, Harper being linked with Leeds may come as a surprise for many fans.
Harper has played just once in the Championship. However, the 19-year-old is an extremely talented player and his recent performance in the FA Cup may have caught everyone’s eye.
The report claims that Fulham and Queens Park Rangers also want Harper on loan. However, Slaven Bilic is keen to keep the teenager at the Hawthorns.
With West Brom also in the race for automatic promotion this season, it is unlikely that Harper will be on the move this month.

Report: Tottenham make contact to sign 23-cap int'l this month…but there's a catch

Report: Tottenham make contact to sign 23-cap int'l this month…but there's a catch – originally posted on Sportslens.com
According to reports from Aksam, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Fenerbahce striker Vedat Muriqi in the January transfer window.
The 25-year-old joined the Turkish club in 2019, and has been in terrific form this season. He has scored 11 goals in 17 appearances in all competitions, and has caught the attention of Spurs and Burnley.
The north London club are desperate to land a striker this month following the injury to Harry Kane. The England striker has undergone a hamstring surgery and could miss the rest of the season.
The report claims that Burnley and Spurs have made an offer to sign the 25-year-old striker, but it has been rejected.
The 23-times Kosovo international has a prolific goal-scoring record. Last season, he scored 17 goals and provided eight assists in 34 league games for Rizespor.
Spurs boss Jose Mourinho has insisted that he will be looking to sign a striker this month. Muriqi is not a top-level striker but he could do a decent job in the absence of Kane.

Report: Spurs eye move for £10k-per-week player, would be a shrewd signing from Mourinho

Report: Spurs eye move for £10k-per-week player, would be a shrewd signing from Mourinho – originally posted on Sportslens.com
According to reports from the Sunday People (19/1; page 49), Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Sheffield United defender Jack O’Connell in the January transfer window.
The 25-year-old, who is on £10k-per-week wages at United, has been a key player for the Blades this season. He has made 23 appearances in the Premier League this season, and has produced some fantastic performances.
The defender was brilliant in games against Norwich, Aston Villa, Brighton, and Watford last month, and it looks like Spurs have taken a keen interest in him.
The north London club are looking to replace Jan Vertonghen who is out of contract at Spurs in the summer. It seems, Jose Mourinho has earmarked the Sheffield United defender for this role.
He has started every game for United this season and has been simply immense for the club. Only Liverpool and Leicester City boast a better defensive record than Sheffield who have conceded just 22 times in 23 fixtures.
O’Connell may not be a marquee signing but he would be a shrewd addition for the club. Matching his wages won’t be any issue, and it remains to be seen whether Spurs make any move for the defender this month.

Report: Hodgson has just come up with an exciting target for Crystal Palace

Report: Hodgson has just come up with an exciting target for Crystal Palace – originally posted on Sportslens.com
Crystal Palace find themselves in the top half of the Premier League table and are punching well above their weight this season.
While the Eagles have done exceedingly well in keeping Wilfried Zaha at the club despite interest in him from heavyweight Premier League clubs, Roy Hodgson has been largely left frustrated with lack of signings this month.
Signing a right-back is a priority for Palace, but they’ve struggled to broker a deal for Kyle Walker-Peters from Tottenham Hotspur so far. It seems, Palace are looking to sign a left-back as well, following injuries to Patrick van Aanholt and Jeffrey Schlupp.
According to reports from The Mirror (transfer live blog; 21:07), the Eagles are weighing up a move for Norwich defender Jamal Lewis.
Jairo Riedewald has been operating at left-back, and he has done a decent job so far. However, Hodgson is still looking to add another player in that position and has earmarked the 21-year-old youngster for that role.
The youngster has made 13 Premier League starts this season, and is a highly exciting young talent. He looked particularly good in Norwich’s 2-2 draw against Tottenham, while he also looked composed for Northern Ireland against the Netherlands in November.
