'Not beyond the realms of possibility': Pundit delivers verdict on key Leeds player amid PL interest

Former Leeds United player turned popular football pundit David Prutton has suggested that Kalvin Phillips would be daft not to consider a move to Manchester United if he is presented the offer to switch clubs.
Phillips has grown into a top-quality player for Marcelo Bielsa, and has taken his game to a whole new level this season. He has been simply outstanding for the Whites who are looking to secure promotion to the Premier League this time.
The 23-year-old combative defensive midfielder has developed an all-round maturity in his game, and as a result, top Premier League clubs are vying for his signature.

Recently, The Sun suggested that four Premier League sides wanted Phillips in the summer, and Manchester United are now preparing a big-money move for him at the end of the season.
Phillips has signed a long-term deal with Leeds, and therefore the Yorkshire club are better placed in the negotiation table in case they need to offload him. Promotion this season is a must if Leeds want to keep hold of Phillips and other top players.
However, even if they are to sell him, Leeds fans will hope that he goes to any other club except Manchester United, given the rivalry the two clubs share.
Prutton suggests that Phillips would be making a mistake if he doesn’t consider the move to Old Trafford.
“I can see Kalvin fitting into a midfield such as that very, very nicely,” he told Football League World.
“Again, it is not beyond the realms of possibility. But, as ever, a boyhood Leeds United fan, who has probably sat on the Kop and watched them against Manchester United, it is a real test of the mettle if they come knocking on the door, but, he’d be daft not to give it some serious thought.”

Opinion: Ibrox will erupt if Gerrard can sign exciting Palace target on loan for Rangers

Opinion: Ibrox will erupt if Gerrard can sign exciting Palace target on loan for Rangers – originally posted on Sportslens.com
Glasgow Rangers find themselves level on points with Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership table and the Ibrox club should feel confident about challenging the Bhoys for the title this season.
Steven Gerrard has assembled a very strong side and the Gers have developed a strong winning mentality under the Liverpool legend.
However, doubts remain over the future of Alfredo Morelos who keeps on attracting interest from Premier League clubs. Although Gerrard is confident of retaining his services till the end of the season, the Gers could be forced to offload him if they receive a crazy amount for the Colombian striker.
Even if they don’t sell him, Rangers should look to add quality on their attacking front, especially now that they are in a very good position to qualify for the knock-out stages of the Europa League. Put it simply, Gerrard needs top quality and depth in his side.
With that in mind, Rangers should make a loan move for Liverpool’s highly-rated young attacker Rhian Brewster who is also wanted by Crystal Palace.

The 19-year-old striker is also reportedly wanted by Championship clubs Bristol City and Swansea City. The report claims that clubs in Germany are also showing interest in signing him on a temporary deal.
Brewster is a highly-rated young talent who has all the potential to play regularly for the Reds senior team.
Although he is yet to feature in the Premier League this season, the youngster has started in both the Carabao Cup matches – against MK Dons and Arsenal – for the Reds.
Jurgen Klopp can afford to send him on loan in January. Brewster will get exposure to the Premier League if he moves to Crystal Palace.
However, Klopp has trusted Gerrard in handling young talents from Liverpool, and the youngster will get an opportunity to experience a title race, which would help him grow as a player.
Therefore, Rangers should make him their top priority target in January, even if Morelos stays on.

Ben Parker names the 'fantastic' Leeds player who is performing even better than last season

Ben Parker names the 'fantastic' Leeds player who is performing even better than last season – originally posted on Sportslens.com
Ben Parker has showered heaps of praise on Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips, saying he has taken his game to a whole new level this season.
Phillips was outstanding for Leeds last season under Marcelo Bielsa. He was the midfield engine for the Yorkshire club and his impressive performance didn’t go unnoticed as several Premier League clubs did try to sign him in the summer transfer window.
The 23-year-old has been in outstanding form this season as well, and Parker believes he has got even better. Arguably, he has become the most important player in Bielsa’s system.
With England preparing for their latest Euro 2020 qualifiers over the coming days, Parker feels that Gareth Southgate should take a look at Phillips who can be as good as anyone else. He says that the young midfielder has developed an all-round maturity in his game, and therefore deserves a chance to play at the highest level.
“If we’re talking England midfielders, there’s no real standout names when you go through the squad. It’s not like years gone by, when you’ve got the likes of Scholes, Gerrard, Lampard, players playing for top, top clubs, winning trophies all over Europe,” he told Ls11.
“I fully agree with you. The role he does, I don’t see many better. The times you watch Match of the Day or see a game on Super Sunday or whatever, you just think Kalvin can do that. But he does it better. His overall game is so mature as well. He’s a beast, just smashes people out the way.
“I thought last year he was fantastic, but he seems to have gone up another notch this season.”
Leeds fans will be more than happy to see Philips getting the deserved rest during the international break as the club need him to be on top of his game after that.
The Whites are one of the favourites to win promotion to the Premier League this season. They find themselves third in the Championship table, two points behind leaders West Brom.

Opinion: Silva will pull off a masterstroke if Everton can land £30m int'l from rival PL club

Opinion: Silva will pull off a masterstroke if Everton can land £30m int'l from rival PL club – originally posted on Sportslens.com
According to a recent report from The Times, Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka is looking to leave the club in the January transfer window.
Newcastle United are reportedly ready to make a move for the Gunners midfielder, and Everton should also join the race to sign him.
Xhaka, who joined the Gunners in 2016 from Borussia Monchengladbach for a fee in the region of £30 million, will ask to leave the club in January.
The 27-year-old has fallen out of favour at Arsenal, and sees his future away from the north London club.

The Swiss international was found swearing and cupping his ear in response to being booed by home fans when he was substituted against Crystal Palace two weeks ago.
Xhaka fell out with Unai Emery and has been stripped off the captaincy as well.
This is an ideal opportunity for Everton to make a move for Xhaka.
The Toffees have made a poor start to the season, and Marco Silva could be eyeing the January transfer window to bring in one or two quality players.

Bolstering the midfield is top priority as the club need to fill the void left by Idrrisa Gueye. Xhaka is a highly experienced player, a natural leader, and could be a perfect fit at Everton.
The Swiss midfielder will be looking for a fresh new start in his career, and Everton should be looking to provide him with that opportunity. Being left-footed, he will bring balance to the midfield alongside Morgan Schneirdin.
Everton must move ahead of Newcastle and make his signing a priority in January.

'I never rule it out': Tottenham fans will be excited about what in-form 25-year-old target has just said

'I never rule it out': Tottenham fans will be excited about what in-form 25-year-old target has just said – originally posted on Sportslens.com
Memphis Depay has reignited his career since he moved to France from Manchester United.
The Dutch winger turned out to be a flop at Old Trafford, but he has since then regained his form at Lyon. His impressive form has caught the attention of several heavyweights clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur.
According to reports from The Mirror, Spurs are looking into a deal for the in-form Lyon forward.
Spurs have been watching the Dutch winger for a while now, and he has now become Tottenham’s first-choice target.

The former Manchester United attacker has taken his game to a whole new level since moving to Ligue 1, and has been enjoying a rich vein of form this season, having scored 11 goals in 14 games, including four in the Champions League.
The report claimed the north London club are willing to pay £50m for the Dutch international.
However, Depay is not bothered with rumours circulating around him, but he has left the door ajar for returning to the Premier League which should excite the Tottenham fans.

Depay told VoetbalPrimeur: “I don’t want to talk about that. I don’t want to talk about rumours that I know nothing about. We leave it in the corridors. I am focused on a strong season so far.”
The Dutch added on returning to the Premier League: “It’s a very nice competition. It’s up to the club that is interested. I belong in a team that plays good football and can play around me, so that I can do my thing. I never rule it out.”
Spurs perhaps are lacking one more player in their attacking options, and therefore a move for Depay makes sense. He will bring quality and experience to the side and would be a very good signing for Spurs.

Graham Roberts predicts Celtic vs Rangers title race

Graham Roberts predicts Celtic vs Rangers title race – originally posted on Sportslens.com
Former Glasgow Rangers defender Graham Roberts believes that the Ibrox club can beat Celtic to lift the Scottish Premiership title this season.
The Gers are second in the Scottish Premiership table, on same points with Celtic after 12 games, with goal difference separating the two sides.
Celtic have won domestic trebles for the past three seasons, but Rangers are looking to provide them with a tough fight this time around. The Ibrox club have made it to the Betfred Cup final, and they are also expected to challenge the Bhoys all the way in the Scottish Premiership.

Roberts feels that the two sides are so evenly matched this season, that whoever wins the Old Firm derby would win the title. In that case, if the Gers can win the next Old Firm clash, they will have the upper hand in the race.
“Rangers have been solid this season and they are level on points with Celtic,” said Souness to The Scottish Sun.
“I think that it’s going to come down to the derbies — if they can win them then I would say Rangers will be champions.
“Last season, they’d go to the likes of Aberdeen and Hibs and they would draw or lose games. This year, though, Steven’s got them playing well and far more consistent.”

The former Tottenham player also makes a point that Rangers are very strong in every department this season, and they have been very consistent.
Roberts is absolutely spot on with his assessment. Under Steven Gerrard this season, the defence has improved immensely, and the Gers have developed a strong winning mentality as well.

Report: PL club fear that Spurs could move for £29m int'l

Report: PL club fear that Spurs could move for £29m int'l – originally posted on Sportslens.com
According to reports from the Daily Mail, Chelsea are looking to offer a new contract to Antonio Rudiger as they fear rival Premier League clubs could move for him.
The 26-year-old has just over 18 months left on his contract at Chelsea. With both Manchester City and Tottenham expected to be in the transfer market for a new central defender next summer, the Blues fear they might lure Rudiger away from Stamford Bridge.
The German international joined Chelsea in 2017 from Serie A giants AS Roma for a reported fee of £29 million. This season he has managed just 45 minutes of action. He has struggled for games due to injury, but Frank Lampard feels he is worth keeping in the side.

Therefore, Chelsea are looking to secure his long-term future by offering him a fresh new deal.
Spurs desperately need to bolster their defence during the summer transfer window. The north London club are expected to lose Belgium duo – Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen – next summer, and need quality players to fill the void.

Having said that, even if Rudiger fails to sign a new deal with Chelsea, it won’t be easy for Spurs to sign him because of the rivalry between the two London clubs.

Nemanja Matic plotting departure from Manchester United

Nemanja Matic plotting departure from Manchester United – originally posted on Sportslens.com
Nemanja Matic could be on his way out of Manchester United soon, with there being a distinct possibility that the Serbian is sold during the upcoming January transfer in itself.
The 31-year-old’s only made five appearances over all competitions this season for the Red Devils, last appearing in the 0-0 draw against AZ Alkmaar in early October.
With Scott McTominay and Fred both having formed a strong partnership which has seen praise from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Matic has fallen way behind the midfield line. Injuries haven’t helped his case either.
Paul Pogba is set to return in early October, which means Matics’ chances of appearing will take an even bigger blow going forward. As a result, the Serbian has been planning on moving out from the club in January or the summer.
According to the Telegraph, AC Milan or Inter Milan could be his destinations as the two Italian sides were very interested in having him back in the summer transfer window.
Inter already swooped in Romelu Lukaku from the Red Devils for a club-record fee in the summer and also signed Alexis Sanchez on a loan after the Chilean was deemed surplus to requirements at Old Trafford.
Matic appeared to question Solskjaer’s tactics back in September when he stated that inability to challenge in the league would fall over his shoulders.
He said, back then, “The coach must opt for the team that will fight for the title and if he does not win, he bears the responsibility.”
Surprisingly, he then lauded the Norwegian for promoting youth in the club a few weeks later, probably in a bid to get in his good books.
The defensive midfield has perhaps been deemed too old and slow to adapt to Solskjaer’s fast-paced game which relies on younger players like McTominay and Fred.
He blamed himself for their crushing 0-4 loss at Goodison Park against Everton last season and with Fred getting better with each passing week, it’ll be difficult for him to get into the starting lineup anytime soon.
United obviously have a clause in Matic’s contract to extend it for another year if they sign the automatic extension clause in his contract.
But that’s unlikely to happen as Solskjaer wouldn’t be that upset about selling him, as long as a proper replacement is handed to him by Ed Woodward.
The Serbian is currently out with an unspecified injury, but should be raring to go after the International break. If he keeps getting ignored throughout, we might see him packing his bags in early 2020.

Report shares reason for dressing-room division at West Ham & Pellegrini's plans

Report shares reason for dressing-room division at West Ham & Pellegrini's plans – originally posted on Sportslens.com
According to The Sun, West Ham United boss Manuel Pellegrini is working to repair a minor dressing-room division that has emanated from their defensive woes .
The Hammers haven’t kept a clean sheet in their last six Premier League games, losing four and drawing the other two.
West Ham headed into the international break on the back of a 3-0 loss at the hands of Burnley, and the Chilean will hope to sort things out with his players ahead of Tottenham Hotspur’s visit.
There is a feeling in the dressing room that they are not defending as a team, and while it’s not a massive problem within the squad, it’s one Pellegrini wants to quickly nip in the bud.
West Ham players reckon everyone has a responsibility to help out with the defensive work on the pitch, and that can’t be farther from the truth after they leaked 13 goals in six games and got dumped out of the League Cup following a 4-0 loss to League One outfit Oxford United.
Astonishingly, the Hammers started the season on an impressive note despite a 5-0 defeat at the hands of Manchester City on the opening weekend.
They quickly bounced back, winning three and drawing two of their next five league games and keeping three clean sheets.
Lukasz Fabianski tore his hip muscle against Bournemouth, and his absence has dealt a huge blow on West Ham’s form.
It’s not a coincidence that they have not won a match since the Polish goalkeeper got injured, and they are already planning on bringing in a new No. 2 in January after summer signing Roberto Jimenez shipped 17 goals in eight appearances across all competitions.
A number of the first-team players have reportedly lost confidence in the Spaniard’s ability, and it will be interesting to see who the Hammers sign when the winter transfer window opens and how they fix their defensive shortcomings prior to that and going forward.

Chris Sutton sends Alfredo Morelos huge warning after Colombian makes transfer admission

Chris Sutton sends Alfredo Morelos huge warning after Colombian makes transfer admission – originally posted on Sportslens.com
Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos has hit 22 goals across all competitions this season, and it’s not a surprise that he is wanted by a couple of English Premier clubs in January.
Leicester City are the latest to be linked with an interest in the Colombian, while Aston Villa are most likely still keeping an eye on him.
Morelos’ goals are crucial to Rangers’ chances of beating Celtic to the league title and going far in the Europa League, and it’s almost impossible to see the Ibrox outfit allow him to leave midway through the season.
While manager Steven Gerrard has revealed he would love to hold on to the 23-year-old beyond January, the Rangers striker told Blue Radio SportsBlog towards the end of last month:
“Hopefully in the January window, the biggest step to a more competitive league will be made.
“The Premier League is very strong and similar to Scotland; it suits how I play, and I like it a lot.”
It remains to be seen if Morelos’ wishes will come true following his transfer admission, but Celtic legend Chris Sutton isn’t convinced the Rangers star is ready for a move south of the border yet, urging him to be patient.
“I think he needs to do it for longer. This season I feel he really has matured disciplinary-wise and is keeping himself on the pitch,” the former striker told Ladbrokes Social Club.
“The finish against Porto, we’re seeing a different Morelos this season and fair play to him. He probably needs to do it over a longer period of time though.”
With 69 goals in 115 games for Rangers, Morelos is definitely convinced he has all it takes to hit the ground running in the English top-flight.
One wouldn’t know how the Light Blues striker will fare if he moves in January, but Sutton has played in both leagues and definitely knows one or two things about what it takes for a striker to excel or fail in England and Scotland, and it will be interesting to see what happens when the winter transfer window opens.
