Defensive-midfielder scouted by Manchester United, Arsenal could throw spanner in the works

According to Sport1, Manchester United are scouting Arne Maier and could look to bring the teenager to Old Trafford. The Hertha Berlin defensive-midfielder is highly-rated and has been watched by representatives of the Red Devils. Arsenal could throw a spanner in the works, however, with The Sun revealing that Sven Mislintat could have Maier on his radar also.
The 19-year-old joined Hertha Berlin from Ludwigsfelder FC in 2008 and rose through the youth ranks to the first-team in 2017, making 26 appearances in all competitions at senior level. The German U21 international, who has four years remaining on his deal with Hertha, has been a regular this season, making three Bundesliga appearances and one in the DFB-Pokal.
Hertha have started the new campaign strongly, boasting two wins and a draw from their first three league games to sit fourth in the table – seven points. They beat Nuremburg 1-0 in their season opener and followed that up with a 2-0 victory away from Schalke 04 before drawing 2-2 with Vfl Wolfsburg.
United may have Fred, Nemanja Matic, Ander Herrera, Andreas Perreira and Paul Pogba as midfield options, but they are clearly looking to strengthen this area. Arsenal are also being linked with Maier’s signature and could be willing to battle United to bring him to England. Time will tell which club wins the race.

Bad news for Emery as Arsenal have injury doubt ahead of Everton clash

Bad news for Emery as Arsenal have injury doubt ahead of Everton clash – originally posted on Sportslens.com

Unai Emery has been dealt a blow ahead of Sunday’s meeting with Everton, with Lucas Torreira an injury doubt for Arsenal. The 22-year-old, who joined the Gunners from Sampdoria this summer, made his first start for the club against Vorskla Poltava in the Europa League group stage but lasted only 57 minutes due to a knee injury – Matteo Guendouzi replaced him.
As per The Sun, Arsenal are sweating over his fitness ahead of their Premier League clash on the weekend. Emery said: “Each match we play, I am responsible for the group and for Torreira also. I hope that (after) tomorrow (Friday) and Saturday, he will be OK for Sunday. Lucas is playing with his progress on the team and on our ideas. Each minute he is playing, he is doing very well.”
Torreira has made six appearances in all competitions for Arsenal, five of which have come from the bench in the league. He’s played in all of the Gunners outings but has been stripped of minutes. Arsenal have had a mixed start to the season, with Emery’s men currently seventh in the table with nine points from a possible 15 boasting three consecutive wins after back-to-back defeats.
Should Torreira miss out for Sunday’s home tie with the Toffees, Emery will have his pick of Granit Xhaka, Aaron Ramsey and Matteo Guendouzi. After seeing the Uruguayan international impress during the 2018 World Cup, fans may be frustrated not being able to see much of Torreira since his move to Arsenal, but there’s still plenty of the season remaining.

Aguero joined the Sky Blues from Atletico Madrid in 2011 and has gone on to make 299 appearances in all competitions, scoring an impressive 204 goals. He’ll have been at City for a decade when his contract expires in 2021, something he revealed to City TV that was his objective when he first joined City.
“I am happy for this additional year,” Aguero said. “My idea was being here for 10 years. I’ve been here for seven years, it’s going to be 10 when the contract expires. Hopefully, that’s going to happen. This was the main reason I signed.”
In his seven years at the Etihad Stadium, the Argentine international has won three Premier League titles (2012, 2014, 2018) and three League Cups (2014, 2016, 2018) and has been the club’s top scorer in all competitions every single season. Aston Villa could agree deal for centre-back, Bruce may sign trialist on a free transfer

Aston Villa could agree deal for centre-back, Bruce may sign trialist on a free transfer – originally posted on Sportslens.com

According to the Telegraph, Aston Villa could agree a deal for centre-back James Collins who has been recently training with the club and is available on a free transfer. The Welsh international was released from West Ham United in the summer and was close to joining Ipswich Town prior to joining Steve Bruce at Villa Park.
The Villans manager invited Collins to train with a view to signing him on a permanent deal, which would be his second stint at the club after making 108 appearances between 2009 and 2012. With the Midlands club short on options at centre-back, Collins could be a useful signing even at the age of 35.
Tommy Elphick recently left Villa to join Hull City on loan, Christopher Samba was released, Micah Richards has been exiled from the first-team and John Terry was released. Villa only have Axel Tuanzebe, James Chester and makeshift option Mile Jedinak who can play centre-back.
The Midlands outfit have had a mixed start to the new season, with Bruce’s men currently seventh in the Championship with 13 points from eight games, having picked up three wins, four draws and one defeat.

'Save us king': Some Spurs fans react to 31-cap int'l five-word Twitter post

'Save us king': Some Spurs fans react to 31-cap int'l five-word Twitter post – originally posted on Sportslens.com

Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to bounce back strongly in the league after a disappointing run of results.
Spurs have lost back to back Premier League games against Watford and Liverpool and lost 2-1 against Inter Milan in the midweek in the Champions League.
Their poor run of form has coincided with Dele Alli’s absence who was forced to withdraw from the England squad with a hamstring problem earlier this month.
According to reports from Sky Sports, Alli and Moussa Sissoko took part in Tottenham training on Thursday.
And Alli himself has confirmed the news on his personal Twitter account.

Good to be back training 🙌🏽 pic.twitter.com/iocHRfrHIx
— Dele (@dele_official) September 20, 2018

However, it remains to be seen whether he will start the game against Brighton, with Mauricio Pochettino hinting that he may not risk the attacking midfielder if he is not completely fit.
Alli, who has 31 caps for England, is a key player for Pochettino and his creativity, link-up play with Harry Kane, and overall involvement in the game has been badly missed by the Spurs fans.
Some Spurs fans responded to his tweet and pleaded with him to return to action at the earliest.

Welcome back! Fair to say you have been missed.

126-cap international sends message to Rangers summer signing on Twitter after EL display

126-cap international sends message to Rangers summer signing on Twitter after EL display – originally posted on Sportslens.com

Glasgow Rangers striker Kyle Lafferty scored the equaliser in Spain as the Ibrox club earned a fantastic result against La Liga giants Villarreal on Thursday night.
The Gers twice came from behind to earn a fantastic 2-2 draw against a top European side, and they deserve a lot of praise for that performance.
Former Rangers player and US international, DaMarcus Beasley, who has 126-caps under his belt for his country, has praised Lafferty on Twitter.

Laffffffffffff! Good goal big man @laffk10 @RangersFC
— DaMarcus Beasley (@DaMarcusBeasley) September 20, 2018

In the absence of Alfredo Morelos, Rangers looked up to their summer signing for inspiration, and Lafferty scored a crucial goal in the 76th minute to earn a draw.
Carlos Bacca’s strike gave Villarreal the lead within the first minute. Rangers equalised in the second half through Scott Arfield.
Villarreal quickly took the lead again when Moreno Gerard scored. However, with time running out, Lafferty rose to the occasion and saved the day for Steven Gerrard’s side.
With this result, Rangers maintained their unbeaten record in nine European games this season. The Ibrox side will host Rapid Vienna in their next Group G outing.

Man United v Wolves injury update & predicted starting line-ups: New signing to get the nod, star forward returns

Man United v Wolves injury update & predicted starting line-ups: New signing to get the nod, star forward returns – originally posted on Sportslens.com

Manchester United host Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League on Saturday aiming to continue their recent resurgence.
United have bounced back from success defeats to win at Burnley and Watford, while Wednesday’s comfortable 3-0 Champions League success at Young Boys will have boosted confidence even further.
Jose Mourinho made five changes from the team that beat Watford last Saturday, with Diogo Dalot, Luke Shaw, Fred, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial coming into the starting XI.
Of that quintet, only Fred is likely to retain his place with Nemanja Matic suspended for this weekend’s game.
Alexis Sanchez, Jesse Lingard, Marouane Fellaini, Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia are all expected to return to the team.
However, injured trio Phil Jones, Ander Herrera and Marcos Rojo all miss the game. Rashford is also suspended.
Wolves have no injury problems to contend with and are likely to name the same team that defeated Burnley 1-0 at Molineux last weekend.
Predicted starting line-ups:
Man United: De Gea, Valencia, Lindelof, Smalling, Young, Fred, Pogba, Fellaini, Lingard, Lukaku, Sanchez.
Wolves: Patricio, Bennett, Coady, Boly, Doherty, Moutinho, Neves, Jonny, Costa, Jota, Jimenez.
Odds: Man Utd 4/7, Wolves 19/4, Draw 3/1.

Report: £100k-per-week PL player open to West Ham move

Report: £100k-per-week PL player open to West Ham move – originally posted on Sportslens.com

According to reports from Transfer Market Web, West Ham were keeping tabs on Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata over the summer and the Hammers could potentially move for him on loan in January.

The 25-year-old joined the Blues in 2017 but has not been able to make a strong impact for the London club. This season he has scored one goal in the Premier League so far in four appearances.

While a move to a direct rival club may raise a few eyebrows, the report suggests that a surprise move could actually be on the cards.

Spanish publications AS report that the player himself would be open to a move. He is expecting to play regularly and it would give him a boost to make a return to the Spain national side.

If indeed he is available on loan, West Ham should make a move for him in the January transfer window.

Javier Hernandez has failed to live up to expectations while Andy Carroll remains perennially injured. With Lucas Perez also struggling to make an impact, a move for Morata, who is on £100k-per-week wages, makes sense.

'Rejuvenated', 'like a new signing': Some Arsenal fans drool over one player's display

'Rejuvenated', 'like a new signing': Some Arsenal fans drool over one player's display – originally posted on Sportslens.com

Arsenal secured their fourth consecutive win after beating Ukrainian side Vorskla Poltava on Thursday night in the Europa League Group E clash.
The Gunners earned a comfortable 4-2 victory at the Emirates, with goals coming from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Danny Welbeck and Mesut Ozil.
One player who particularly impressed during the game was Alex Iwobi. The 22-year-old looked energised throughout the game, and Vorskla couldn’t cope with him.
His direct movement and pace created problems and did set up the first goal for the Gunners.
Arsenal fans have taken to social networking site Twitter to express their reaction to Iwobi’s performance, and they are very pleased with what they saw.
Some of the fans were surprised to see his transformation under the new boss, while many feel that his return to form seems like a new signing for the club.
Here are some of the best reactions on Twitter:

Have to say, Iwobi really seems to be benefitting from working with Emery. He’s been bright and lively whenever he’s played this season. Good to see. So much potential that needs releasing in him.
— Charles Watts (@charles_watts) September 20, 2018

Unpopular opinion: Alex Iwobi has actually been a different player this season. Has his promise back.
— TheArseneView (@TheArseneView) September 20, 2018

Iwobi looks so rejuvenated and looking like a player full of confidence. Playing like the Iwobi from 15/16. Naija Messi in the cut‼️‼️
— P🎒 (@RedLacazette) September 20, 2018

Iwobi might need to play more often. Best option we have on the wing.
— Paddy (@VieiraPaddy) September 20, 2018

Iwobi is like a new signing
— The Arsenal (@DareToWenger) September 20, 2018

Arsenal will face Everton next in the Premier League clash on Sunday and Iwobi will be hoping to impress there as well.
