Most tackles, interceptions and assists – 3 Watford stars dominating the Premier League

Most tackles, interceptions and assists – 3 Watford stars dominating the Premier League – originally posted on

Watford have started the new season in fantastic form, boasting four wins from their first four games to currently sit third in the Premier League table. The Hornets are level on 12 points with leaders Liverpool and second-placed Chelsea after beating Brighton & Hove Albion (2-0), Burnley (3-1), Crystal Palace (2-1) and Tottenham Hotspur (2-1).
Manager Javi Gracia was unsurprisingly named Premier League Manager of the Month after Watford’s bright start, but he also has his players to thank for their efforts. There’s barely been a poor performance among the squad so far this campaign, but three players are outperforming the most talented individuals of other sides – Jose Holebas, Christian Kabasele and Will Hughes.
No player has made more assists than Holebas (4), no player has made more tackles than Will Hughes (17) and no player has made more interceptions than Kabasele (12). Watford’s fine start to the new season can be attributed to many of their players performing above expectations.
To have Will Hughes and Kabsele boasting more tackles and interceptions than Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante takes some work, and Holebas having created more goals than the likes of Manchester City’s Kevin de Bruyne is impressive early on. Whether the Watford trio will remain top of the statistics chart as the campaign progresses remains to be seen, but it’s impressive that so many Hornets are keeping big-name players in the shade.

Man Utd ‘ready’ to move for defensive-midfielder completing more passes than Pogba & Matic

Man Utd ‘ready’ to move for defensive-midfielder completing more passes than Pogba & Matic – originally posted on

According to The Sun, Manchester United are ‘ready’ to move for Wolverhampton Wanderers’ defensive-midfielder Ruben Neves. The 21-year-old has started the new campaign in fantastic form after helping the Midlands outfit to promotion from the Championship last season.
The report says United manager Jose Mourinho was going make a move for Portuguese international after the 2018/19 campaign came to a close, but a January approach could now be on the cards. Neves averages more passes-per-game (68.8) than Paul Pogba (63.8) and Nemanja Matic (54) and has a higher completion ratio (85.8%) to theirs (81.6% and 85.2%) respectively.
Such has been his form since his 2017 arrival from FC Porto, both United and rivals Manchester City are looking to procure his signature. It may take a bid of £60m to lure him away from Molineux, but Mourinho is said to be willing to sign him. City boss Pep Guardiola wants him to make up for not signing Jorginho from Napoli.
As a result, Wolves could be faced with a number of bids for their deep-lying playmaker when the winter transfer window opens in January, but they have no obligation to sell given Neves’ contract doesn’t expire until 2023.

Man Utd could lose ‘no rush’ phoenix as contract winds down, Tottenham keen to capitalise

Man Utd could lose ‘no rush’ phoenix as contract winds down, Tottenham keen to capitalise – originally posted on

According to The Sun, Manchester United could lose Luke Shaw for nothing at the end of the season. The left-back’s contract is winding down and will expire next summer, but he’s reportedly in ‘no rush’ to extend his stay.
Tottenham, who were heavily-linked to Shaw in the past, remain interested in his signature, but the former Southampton defender could yet stay at Old Trafford given he’s since returned to the starting lineup.
Signed from the Saints in 2014, the 23-year-old has gone on to make 70 appearances in all competitions for United, winning the Europa League, League Cup and Community Shield.
Under manager Jose Mourinho, however, Shaw lost his place in the starting lineup and looked to be on his way out of the club until he rose from the ashes like a phoenix this summer.
After the high-profile bust-up with Mourinho, the England international is finally proving his worth and has been a standout performer for the Red Devils so far – four Premier League appearances, one goal.
Despite his four-year deal being up next summer, Shaw could stay at United due to his change in circumstances. If he’s a regular at left-back, finally keeping Ashley Young at bay, it’s unlikely he would want to leave and that the Manchester giants would sell him.

Good news as Everton could welcome back injured star for West Ham clash

Good news as Everton could welcome back injured star for West Ham clash – originally posted on

According to the Liverpool Echo, Everton could welcome back injured star Theo Walcott ahead of Sunday’s meeting with West Ham United. The 29-year-old was hooked off in the second-half against Huddersfield Town with a rib injury on September 1 but could recover in time to face the Hammers thanks to the international break.
Everton manager Marco Silva will be desperate to have Walcott back, as the Toffees are short on attacking options. Richarlison will be suspended for the United clash, while Bernard is recovering from injury and is doubtful ahead of Sunday’s meeting. Walcott has started the season in fine form too, scoring and creating three goals in his first four Premier League appearances.
So long as he’s not feeling pain in his rib this week, he should be in the squad to face Manuel Pellegrini’s side. Signed from Arsenal in January 2018, the England international has gone on to make 19 appearances for the Blues in all competitions, contributing nine goals. His efforts have helped Everton start the new season unbeaten, with Silva’s men sitting seventh with six points.
The Merseysiders have won one and drawn three of their four outings and Walcott has had his hand in 43% of their goals so far. He’s an important player.

Karren Brady's latest comments will provide boost for £10m-per-year West Ham man

Karren Brady's latest comments will provide boost for £10m-per-year West Ham man – originally posted on

West Ham vice-chairman Karren Brady has given her full support to the under-pressure Hammers boss Manuel Pellegrini after the London club’s poor start to the season.
Despite spending heavily in the summer, West Ham fans have been left disappointed with performances on the pitch as the Hammers find themselves bottom of the league after the opening four games.
The Hammers have lost all their Premier League matches, but more than the results, it is the lacklustre performance that has been a huge worry.
However, the West Ham board have ‘complete faith’ in their manager, and Brady believes that the Chilean has the proven track record to turn it around.
Brady claimed that everyone at the club thought the club would improve drastically after spending over £100million on players.
However, the Hammers board feel that the new team will require time to gel and that Pellegrini, who is reportedly on £10m-per-year wages – one of the highest paid managers in England – is the right man for the job.
“Having decided we did not want to go through another season like the last one, the Board took action,” said Brady, as quoted by The Sun.
“We appointed a manager with the most successful career we have ever had in Manuel Pelligrini and spent over £100million on players he wanted that we all thought would improve the team considerably.
“It hasn’t happened yet but I have complete faith that things will soon start to turn our way. The most important thing is to stick together.
“It takes time for a new team to gel, but gel they will and anyway targeting the manager or certain players will help no-one. As a club, we will stand by them all, confident that they have the makings of an excellent side.”
It remains to be seen how West Ham fans and the board react if the results do no go their way, as the Hammers will face a trip to Everton followed by home matches against Chelsea and Manchester United in their next three Premier League games.
Pellegrini should feel secure and confident after Brady’s latest comments. He will be happy to find that the club is looking to stick with him and give him the required time to turn it around.

'Great player': Some Forest fans react after knowing who Karanka wants to sign

'Great player': Some Forest fans react after knowing who Karanka wants to sign – originally posted on

According to reports from The Sun on Sunday (09/09; page 63), Nottingham Forest and West Brom are interested in signing Bakary Sako on a free transfer.
Last week TEAMtalk claimed that Aston Villa and Middlesbrough are keen to sign the former Wolverhampton Wanderers and Crystal Palace attacking midfielder.
The 30-year-old left Palace at the end of last season, and he is currently without a club. The Mali international can also operate as a winger and would be a fine addition for Forest.
Forest have made a stuttering start to their new campaign. Aitor Karanka has signed a lot of players during the summer transfer window, but he is still on the lookout for more additions.
Summer signing Lewis Grabban is yet to open his account since his switch to the City Ground, and probably that is why Karanka is keen to add another attacking player to his ranks.
While Sako is a good player, Forest fans are divided in opinion about whether he would be a smart signing. His quality has never been in any doubt, but many fans argue Karanka should stick with what he has got, as the squad is already bloated.

I’d definitely take Sako at #nffc think he would single-handedly wreck championship defences. In reality can’t see him dropping down divisions considering his talent.

Sako Would Be A Great Signing. Was Great At Wolves And Did Alright At Palace.#NFFC

This would be a great signing

But when does it stop? We have Lolley, Cash, Dias, Carvalho and Goncalves for those roles. Do we need another expensive addition to the wage bill, or to work with what we’ve got?

Spurs open negotiation for 23-year-old top quality player, face competition from PL rival club

Spurs open negotiation for 23-year-old top quality player, face competition from PL rival club – originally posted on

According to French publication Paris United, Tottenham have joined Barcelona and Manchester City in the race to sign PSG midfielder Adrien Rabiot.
The French football site has reported on their Twitter account that Spurs have joined the race for the signature of the France international.
Paris United has also claimed that discussions are underway between Rabiot’s representatives and the London club.

Concernant #Rabiot, sa relation avec #Henrique est très tendue. Le Duc espère une intervention de #Nasser pour faire avancer le dossier.
— Paris United (@parisunited6) August 25, 2018

Rabiot is expected to quit the French champions on a free transfer next year, and Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is looking to add him to his squad.
The 23-year-old is a top quality defensive midfielder. He is a key player for the star-studded PSG side and would be a terrific addition for any Premier League team.
Tall, powerful, technically gifted, and possessing a wide range of passing, he is just the ideal fit for Spurs. Being left-footed, he could be a long-term replacement for Mousa Dembele.
It remains to be seen whether Spurs make a move for him in the January transfer window or wait till next season to sign him on free.

Chelsea could lose unsung hero, poor Sarri treatment may lead to January move

Chelsea could lose unsung hero, poor Sarri treatment may lead to January move – originally posted on

Chelsea defender Gary Cahill has an uncertain future. He’s struggled for playing time under new manager Maurizio Sarri and could be considering a move away from Stamford Bridge in January if he continues to be on the periphery. David Luiz was brought in from the cold and has ousted the England international from the starting lineup, with Antonio Rudiger partnering him.
The 32-year-old is an unsung hero, having made 282 appearances in all competitions since his 2012-move from Bolton Wanderers. In his six years with the London giants, Cahill has won two Premier League titles, two FA Cups, one League Cup one Europa League title and a Champions League crown. He was a regular for Chelsea up until this season, making 27 league appearances in 2017/18, and The Sun believe he could be on the move in the coming months.
Unless the Blues have identified a long-term replacement for Cahill in their defence, it may not be wise to part company with a terrific servant for the club. The centre-back is in the last year of his deal and was representing his country (61 caps for the England national team) until announcing his retirement this campaign so he’s still a useful player to have.
Time will tell if Chelsea let him seek first-team football elsewhere or if his situation changes under Sarri. He’s yet to make an appearance under the new boss so his chances of a return look slim.

5 movies every sports lover needs to watch

googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘ad_pos_sp-desktop-top’); });

Who doesn’t love a good sports film?! There’s nothing that gets the blood pumping more than watching some high school sports team go from zeroes to heroes. If you’re looking for a classic sports movie to watch, we’ve got the best of the best here.
Even if you haven’t watched Rocky before, you’ll definitely know the theme tune and have sung along punching the sky just like Balboa himself. Rocky is one of the most inspirational (and most famous) sports movies of all time, that is an inspiration to anyone anywhere in the world that only you can do your absolute best. You need to train hard, you’ll get knocked back, but you’ll eventually end up winning for yourself.

Bend It Like Beckham
This British sports movie covers everything – soccer, love, social issues, and religion. But it is also a darn good movie. It follows the life of Jess, an Indian girl whose family expect her to be the perfect Indian housewife; to get married, cook and clean for her husband, and to have babies. However, Jess has an overriding passion for football that takes over her whole life and ends up defying her family to continue on with her dream. And she really does bend it like Beckham… It also features a very young Keira Knightley!

Chariots of Fire
Many sports movies focus on winning; they focus on the struggle to be the best of the best, and to overtake all of the competition. But Chariots of Fire doesn’t. This story follows the lives of two runners during the 1924 Olympics – one is Jewish, the other is Christian. However, they don’t try and outdo each other; they don’t try and sabotage each other, they don’t try and put each other down. They help each other while achieving their own goals. And that Vangelis theme tune is something else.

Cool Runnings
Not all sports movies have to be hard-hitting, serious and made in earnest. Cool Runnings is a feel good, slap-the-knee kind of movie, and follows a team of Jamaican Bobsleigh runners (yep, Jamaicans and ice). But despite everyone’s doubts in the team, they practice, they pick themselves up from their knock backs and make their way to the 1988 Winter Olympics. Just remember, you have to kiss the lucky egg.

When you’re deemed an underdog, it can often be difficult to pick yourself up and push forward with your goals. Sometimes, however, it just takes one person to spur you on. In Miracle’s case, Herb Brooks pushes the U.S Ice Hockey Team to their fearsome Soviet Union opponents in the Winter Olympics in the best way. He whips them into shape and tasks them with grueling exercise regimes and practices. But it all works out for the best, and the ending is one of the most emotional finales in movie history. See for yourself.
